How easy is it to liquidate though?

It’s easier than paying your landlord’s mortgage with your rent. I know.

On the flip side…. If the 1.5 million people are asked to leave? Who would fill those roles in healthcare?

Do you recall 2-tier Kier’s ‘Youth Mobility’ visa scheme? Where youngsters from EUROPE will come to the UK?

I think those will fill the healthcare vacancies.

Hey! I was thinking about you the other day - good to have you back here. Hope you've been keeping well.

I hear she's defected from Labour to Libdems lol
The "competent man" Starmer has disappointed many. Not much daylight between his policies and those proposed by the racist Kemi/Tories.

I’m keeping well. Many thanks.

LOL @ defected from Labour to LibDems.

I will not be surprised.

Going through the threads here, I wonder. Some people (who were only able to ‘finally’ japa from nigeria because of ‘BorisWave’) became hugely critical of the Tories. Calling the Tories anti-immigration and racist etc… I wonder if they still feel the same with 2-tier Kier at the wheels.

You are right especially on that Mortgage aspect.

It crossed my mind this year but given the precedents of the U.K government, I shelved the idea and decided to see what I can get at home first. Turns out my instincts were right. grin

My opinion is:
Get the mortgage, if you can. When shite finally hits the ceiling and you need to return to Naij, you sell the house (hopefully you’ve built equity). You get something back.
But if you are perpetual rent, then when you have to return, your landlord gets to keep ALl you have paid on rents.

I celebrated Rachel Reeves and will celebrate Madam President next week. Madam mat pay ...not so much

If madam president had won, I would have celebrated her too. That would’ve been 1 more story for me to tell my daughter.
Unfortunately, it appears the Trump guy only beats women, but not men (Hilary in 2016 & Kamala in 2024). The conspiracy theorist in me thinks even the (probably senile) ‘sleepy joe’ at the head of the ticket would’ve beaten the Donald.

Any way, we Move.

"When a woman is spoiling for a fight, she asks her cowife to give her palmoil to eat her palm nuts with"

That's my answer to you Zahra.

The rest i ll leave to my compatriots .

“When a woman is hell bent on not wanting to celebrate the achievements of a fellow woman, she can go as far as accusing the celebrant of raising so much dust when she (the celebrant) jumped into a pool of water”

Even if Kemi takes a bullet for some people; they will still accuse her (Kemi) of spoiling their white Agbada with her blood.

This is one for my daughter.
I will tell her there is no glass ceiling anymore. Kemi has shattered it.

I will tell my daughter that whatever her aspirations are, she can achieve them.

I will tell my daughter to ignore the naysayers who constantly want to discredit the UK as a ‘racist country’.

Long live Kemi
Long live Nigeria
Long live the UK

Dude/mrs, why not relax and let the new government execute its policies. Money for investment has to come from somewhere. They have the benefit of seeing what the Conservatives tried unsuccessfully.

Of the last few conservative governments, one tried blaming the EU for all the problems of Britain which resulted in Brexit. The next tried borrowing huge sums with no plan on how to pay back which almost tanked the economy, the last (following actions of the previous 2) brought in huge number of migrants to grow the economy which resulted in a historic defeat for them.

Okay oh.
Do you think I will be sad if Labour succeeds? Far from it. If Labour turns the UK around for good, you think I will not benefit? Of course I will.

Indirectly taxing the employees… Labour and its cunning nature. 😒

Not just cunning. Most times "outrightly dishonest" - as Nick Robinson put it to Rachel Reeves this morning on the BBC Radio 4 Today Program.

See what BBC- found out about the alleged '£22 billion black hole'

Who re how Buhari spent 8 years blaming "16 years of FeeDeeFee" for everything? Rachel was practically singing from the Buhari hymn sheet yesterday, waxing lyrical about "14 years of Tories"

Like APC Nigeria. Like Labour Party UK.

Hope you're following the gradual autopsy of the budget...... Things are not looking too good...... 😂

I hope you know there are people in Nigeria who would swear on their lives that Buhari was the best president Nigeria ever had.
There are people (even on this thread) who will tell you Tinubu's 1.5-year presidency is the best period in Nigeria since 1999.

Just as those die-hard APC people are in Nigeria, the die-hard Labour Party people in the UK will say yesterday's budget is the best thing to happen to the UK... even if the evidence is weak, very weak.

That 40bn has to come from somewhere.
We keep going to the same places when we need money, trying to suffocate the poor.

Labour has just chosen to squeeze the other side of the lemon this time. This will play very well on the doorsteps as that's what people voted for.

Wait a minute... it appears all sides of the lemon will be squeezed. The OBR mentioned it yesterday.
This morning, Rachel Reeves herself accepted that the Squeeze will be felt by the 'Working People' side of the lemon.
She said that on BBC Radio 4 Today program.

I think the poor will be further suffocated, unfortunately.

That is for employers and not for employees

“No. We did not increase the cost of transportation from Owerri to Orlu. We promised that we will never increase the cost of transportation for ENGERS.”

“What we actually did (and y’all must applaud us) is that we increased the cost of Petrol for BUS DRIVERS. Only the DRIVERS will buy petrol at an increased cost. The ENGERS should not worry as we did not increase transport fare”.

I carefully listened to the OBR take on the budget today. The OBR specifically analysed that the National Insurance increase for Employers will (in the real sense of it) translate to 3/4 of the burden by employees and 1/4 of the burden by employers themselves.

Hello all, I need urgent help (suggestion). I'm done with my school September this year and I applied for my son's visa the last week of September.

It's been closed to one month and no decision was made on the application, I did a paid inquiry and I notice additional document (TB test) is required. Initially, I didn't submit a TB test, thinking my visa is not up to 6months and TB test need 6months and above visa requirement.

Trying to booked a TB test from the center is requesting for his port, and his port is already submitted.

How can I go about it?

Urgent! Urgent! Urgent!

Story not very clear.
Where is your son?
Is this a visitor visa you applied for?

Please has anyone used the further leave to remain route here, I don’t know if i qualify for it. I have spent almost 5 years in the UK.

I would’ve thought Further Leave to Remain is just a fancy name for visa extension.

The number of years you have spent (almost 5 in your case) is not as important as the Visa Type/Category you spent those 5 years on.

So I guess the question to you is: What visa category have you been on those 4+ years?

The answer to that will help in shaping the responses you will get.

Cheers.

Who re the following lines:
“Our Manifesto is FULLY costed”
“We will not increase tax for ‘Working People”.

Now what are they singing?
“14-years bla bla bla…”
“20 Billion Black Hole bla bla bla…”

Like I said before:
2024 UK Labour Party = 2015 Nigeria APC

Budget day is just a few days away. Na that day we go know whether their manifesto was ‘FULLY COSTED’.

Good people of this forum. I need you to enlighten me as I and a friend(also on nairaland) got into a debate of if someone on a skilled worker visa is allowed to do delivery jobs like Amazon flex especially during the period when offices are closed?

Thank you 🙏🏾

While waiting for the experts (read: Zahra29),
Let me try.
The rule on SWV (this may be outdated) was that your 2nd (supplementary) job MUST be in the same occupational code with the Job which sponsored your visa.

In this case, Amazon flex is a no.

So if the victims are found, who provides the money for the reparations payments?

(A). The descendants of the Slave owners should have all their riches sold and the money repatriated to Descendants of the slaves in Barbados and Jamaica and St Kitts

Or

(B). Modern day White Britons (such as Keir Starmer, Rachel Reeves, Boris Johnson, Angela Rayner, Declan Rice)

Or

(C). Modern day people with British ports (including Naturalised Nigerians (such as Justwise, Lexusgs430, MissJekyll, Zahra29, Goodenoch) Ghanaians , Indians, including black British people (Like David Lammy, Dawn Butler and Diane Abbot)

Who EXACTLY should foot the bills for the reparation money?

@ the bolded.
Precisely why all this talk about monetary reparation is nonsense.

Exactly my sentiments.
All these Caribbean countries pushing for monetary reparations payments should better use the energy to strike bilateral agreements with the UK. Then ask (beg) the UK for more aid (with a promise that the aid will be used judiciously).
All this talk about asking for ££ from 21st century British people to pay for the sins of 19th century British ancestors is not making sense (to me).

I guess the questions above is apt.

Where is the UK expected to get the Billions to Trillions of £ to pay from? Surely not by increasing Chibuike Nwosu or Adebayo Olamide’s taxes?

Where is the money expected to come from?

PS: Chibuike Nwosu & Olamide Adebayo are Care Workers who migrated to the UK in March 2024.

My dear (Adult) sisters and brothers on this street who have children.

Please, recommend to your children to stop when the UK police tells (orders) them to stop.

Recommend to your children to obey laws, and if (for any reason) they run foul of the law, let them work with the police. It will save us (Black community) a lot of pain & anguish.

Background: Chris Kaba would have been alive today had he stopped when asked to stop by the police.

Thank you.

Hmmmm a Labour Health Secretary now wanting fat people to slim down by force so that they can go to work.

I can imagine the outrage that would’ve happened if it was a non-Labour Minister/MP that has suggested this.

When the former PM mentioned that more people need to get back to work to ease the pressure on benefits payments etc… when the former PM mentioned that baseless “Sicknotes culture” needs to addressed so that people can get back to work… guess the set of people who crucified him?

The more issues like this come up, the more it becomes clear that the 'winners' of the last immigration 'boom' may be those who came via the care route- most were able to bring in family, didn't have the burden of uni fees on them and are already counting 1-3yrs out of 5 for their ILR while students are stuck in limbo.

Says so much about the effectiveness of the largest immigration system.

..and yet if you read some Nairaland threads long enough, all you hear is how hostile and racist and ‘anti-migrant’ the out-gone govt was.

The unbundling of the Tier-2 and subsequent creation of the Health & Care visa by the Conservative Government had a lot of Winners from Nigeria. I’m not sure ANY UK government in the last 50 years have opened the door that wide for Nigerian immigrants.

Gosh ,here's the possible way this could have happened.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjGFdePFVvs?si=izimMuTvzgjxC_XS

I m interested in people's theories. What happened to cleverly?

My issue with the analysis by the guy in this video is what I call ‘binarification’ of human thoughts.

This guy’s argument is based on (the absolutely wrong -in my opinion) assumption that humans only think in a binary fashion. Either ‘Left’ or ‘Right’. He somehow classified Rob & Kemi as ‘far right’ and Jim as He didn’t even clearly classify Jim.

Secondly, the fact that post-conference, Jim had 55% shift means absolutely nothing. That post-conference ‘bounce’ was NOT amongst the 121 parliamentary party MPs. Meaning that ‘bounce’ was not as useful to Jim as being portrayed.

Thirdly, the guy’s ‘binarification’ naively concluded that Tom & Jim were on the same ‘team’ given Kemi & Rob were on the ‘far right’..whatever the heck he meant by that. His conclusion therefore was that Jim would naturally gain all of Tom’s voters since Jim & Tom belonged to same ‘team’.

I personally think the complexity of the human western politician is (and should rightly) be more complex than a silly classification as either left or right. It’s more complex and more nuanced.

It is possible for one to be on the ‘Left’ and still think Hamas was wrong and Israel is only defending itself.
Conversely, one could be on the ‘Right’ and still think Hamas are actually freedom fighters.

It is possible for one to be on the ‘Left’ and still think a woman cannot have a penis; conversely, I can be on the ‘Right’ and believe that a man can have a uterus and a vagina.

It is possible for one to be on the ‘left’ and Brexit. It is also possible for one to be on the ‘Right’ and be a ‘Remainer’.

My point, there is more to human nature than ‘left’ or ‘right’

In Conclusion… Kemi issa Goal. If I was a ed conservative, Kemi would be getting my vote.
