I ed it yesterday. This is a badly written app! Pretty much spitting out the wrong information, if it works at all. So do NOT waste your time, See posts in the other main thread.

My advice is that folks not use this app. Your information can be easily compromised it seems. As a software developer, I can tell you that this mixing of information, and showing someone else's information should not be happening. Just a BADLY written app it looks like!

I don't think anyone is even sure. First I heard it's October, then I heard that has not been confirmed yet. I had booked to travel last April. Had to get a refund from Delta. For now, I am planning for around Mid November. However, I will not purchase my ticket until I am sure flights have resumed.

September is just 5 weeks away. Not sure flights would have resumed by then.

No point recycling these same fools. The entire political system needs an overhaul. It is pretty much a laughing stock at this point!

Have to agree. This is primarily because of the amount of money they make from the tons of Visa applications they get. International Flights will likely not even resume till much later.

Adeniyi Jones WAS a high brow area. I definitely would not call it that now. For those of us that grew up in the eighties in this area and Allen Avenue...these areas are a shadow of what they used to be. It's all commercialized now. Parents had to seek a more quiet area donkey years ago. The plus though is that, properties there do generate good rental income.

I suspect it's your device. Try the sim in another phone.

unique:
I don't know whether anybody have experienced this but it has happened twice now.My MTN sim i have been using for almost 1 year just stop working like that; it will be showing "Insert Sim". I bought another MTN;after like six month last week it stopped working just like the first one. I have tried the sim on four different phones and it's still showing me insert sim i complained to MTN and they said the sim is damaged i should go for Welcome Back and this sim is still not even up to a year. I know it may sound weird but have anyone experienced this?

For the most part I've had pretty good speeds with mtn. Stream movies and videos without issues. I was consistently getting about 100 Mbps during a visit. As I showed in this thread.

https://nairaland.macsoftware.info/5358364/airtel-4g-lte-vs-mtn/1

Internet speed is usually showed in Mbps. So not sure what some are arguing about Mbps vs MBps. MBps shows how fast a file is being ed.

Is 4G/LTE enabled under network settings? If so, it may be your sim card is not provisioned for LTE, or your location.

Yes, this is a serious issue in Nigeria, and it's holding the country back. As someone who is in IT and primarily works remotely, I have tried it a couple of times when I visit Naija, and it was not the best experience. I am usually there for 2 weeks so I just buy so much data on my MTN/GLO lines, and using 4G/LTE btw. I have to meetings in the US via webex on some days and it's usually a pain. I try not to do work related stuff that's data intensive due to the lag associated to mobile connection. Majority of the people still access the internet via data on their mobile phones, and there are no hard-wired connections, so Work from Home (WFH) options are very limited. On the entertainment side it's the same issue. Watching Netflix/YoutubeTV on your TV there is just painful! Here all the rooms are hard-wired cat5, so we just plug it into the TV or just go wirelsss if hard-wired is not possible. All these problems are really hampering Nigeria's development.

Deicide:
Am glad that people are beginning to realise how serious this issue is, I created a thread earlier about this Why should data be capped?

Unlimited is not unlimited and it's so annoying as a student I would have to wait till in the night before i can access the internet to get stuff done and it's really affecting me badly.

If MTN Glo Etisalat or Airtel could give us true unlimited I would be happy but they don't want to do it and I don't know why which is giving way for this smaller company to cheat us.....I swear am fed up who I offend way them born me for this country?

Even 60gb of data wouldn't be enough for a week, it would get exhausted because of the nature of the kind of stuff I do makes one less productive. We keep spending money on data everyday, this is day light robbery!

Not just that figure. The whole thing is. No way in the world they served 1500 destinations. That's a whole lot of destinations...LOL! I don't even think they served 50 destinations. While I understand what the article is trying to say, all the figures mentioned are seriously exaggerated!! To give some perspective, Today Delta and British Airways fly to 242 and 170 destinations respectively. And these are 2 of the largest airlines in the world.

XANDERBOY85:
That figure of 150 billion per year is suspect considering the naira at that point was roughly equla to the dollar. Maybe they meant to say 150 million naira.

The story doesn't draw any tears from me! The elements running Nigeria today are the same ones that ran it back then and ran it aground! The rot wasn't showing that much then because they had just started their ruinous control of power, plus the fact there was plenty of petro-dollars to cover up their mistakes at the time!

I concur. It will be extended. However, they are doing it in a few weeks spurts to limit the resistance. As long as the number of new cases is going up, it makes sense for social distancing measures to continue. Hence, the lockdown will be extended.

monfizzy:
This lockdown will be further extended and last no later than end of May or early June. You people should brace yourself for it.

Nigeria is yet to hit it peak and can’t get better before Europe where lockdown is expected to last at least mid May.

May be some clarification is needed for OP regarding locked/unlocked. When a phone is unlocked it means it's networked unlocked, so you can just use any sim from any network in it. Hence it will be more expensive than a Network locked phone, which will only accept the sim from the network it was locked to, until it's unlocked. Obviously, the network locked phone will be cheaper since it's limited. And it will cost money to unlock it. Bottom line - a network locked phone will be cheaper than an unlocked one. I believe thr price disparity is worse for Iphones due to the difficulty of getting it unlocked.

Since OP said these are from the USA, my guess is that they are locked to one of our networks here. AT&T, Tmobile, etc.

Exactly! It's simple math. USA has tests 5,336 per million, on the other hand, Nigeria has tested only 19 per million. So, it makes sense that US will have more positive cases. I hope all the predictions are wrong and Nigeria does not experience what a lot of people are predicting. That would be awesome!

Back on topic here: Bottom line is, the validity/grace period before Nigerian carriers cancel and recycle lines (90 days) is too short. It should be at least 180 days of non chargeable activity, before a line is marked for non-use, and then another 90 days of no topup after that before it's recycled.

Bossman(m): 3:24pm On Mar 02, 2020
I am not aware of any other country where the line is considered valid only 90 days. And one needs a chargeable activity every 90 days to keep it active. It's usually at least 180 days.

The lifetime of the SIM is dependent on a chargeable activity. Which can be a topup, out going call/text. Just anything that generates money for the carrier, Not just a topup alone.

ShenTeh:
Number (MSISDN) recycling is international best practice. No need calling out MTN, other telcos or NCC. It not only betrays our Ignorance but shows our poor grasp of the products we are using.

The lifespan of your MSISDN ownership is dependent on your recharge history. For most networks, the number of times you recharge (not denomination, just number of times) extends the validity of your ownership by 90 days. When this validity period expires, your line becomes inactive, upon which when you recharge you get 90 days, etc. This way people can get lifetime validity.

When you do not recharge in this inactive status, the line becomes deactivated 90 days from the inactive status date. A deactivated line can still be redeemed from your network provider with some basic requirements. It remains in this state for another 90 days. When you make no effort to redeem the deactivated SIM and tge 90 days elapse, the MSISDN (your number) is recycled and you forfeit ownership.

Fair enough. Otherwise telcos will just be selling numbers to claim largest subscriber base without bothering on quality and customer retention.
Bossman(m): 3:11pm On Mar 02, 2020
Yes, but NOT after 90 - 120 days of no activity. In most other countries, your SIM will stay active for at least 6 months of no use at all. And even 12 months in some cases. Then after the inactive period, there is usually a grace period of 3 months to re-activate the number by topping it up or. Then if that does not happen is the number recycled.

Unstable network is the exception here. Up time with my Xfinity is 99% at worst. Remote work is common for a lot of us here, and so many other things are dependent on the internet. And these will not be possible if the network is not guaranteed to be up.

I honestly do not believe this is feasible unless you have unlimited data. I use YoutubeTV instead cable. And as already mentioned, these services strictly use the internet to get you the same thing you get via cable. So for somewhere like Nigeria, where unlimited internet is not common, it's really not feasible. Also it's best if used via a wired connection, which is almost non existent in Nigeria. A lot of homes here are wired for Cat6 cable. And just about all TVs are internet ready (with Ethernet port in the back), so we just plug that into the wired cable. When I check my Xfinity , we (family of 4) average about 800 - 900 GB monthly. Everything is internet here. So that's the entire monthly internet usage.

There are multiple factors that determine what network speed you get at one particular time. In my experience, I consistently get solid speeds with MTN. See my posting/screen shot here.

Welcome to the US. That's the way it is here o. You will "really" learn and that knowledge will be tested all the way. Especially at a school such as Univ of Virginia. It will turn out well in the end though. Since you will be bombarded with job offers. Same thing I went through when I was studying Computer Science back in the days. It's been a great investment though.
