Guys, what is the best approach. I accepted an ission offer towards the end of last year. Now, I recently got an offer in another school which I want to accept. I guess I have to reject the previous offer. Any suggestions on how to go about it will be appreciated. Thanks |

So much subjectivity in Eniolakiite's opinion on this issue. The argument is all one sided and sometimes she presents her opinion as if Trump told her personally why he took the decision. We have to be objective about these things, immigration and politics are wide and complicated topics that lots of people will not understand. In my case, I read about analysts views on reputable media and I read from different point of views; e.g. dems and Republicans The USA issued about 450000 green cards throughout year. Let us assume it will be the same this year. This is still April, and if only those already in USA can apply for now, that will still be a small fraction of 450k. That is just a small number of people that we are adding to the 22m Americans that has apparently lost their jobs. You should ask yourself whether it is a political move or not 8 Likes |

Good write up, however, I don't think it is as easy as you are presenting it to be. You also have to understand that unless someone is just starting their academic journey at the undergraduate level, the advice might not be for everyone. For people seeking graduate ission, we all have our different undergraduate background, qualifications and prerequisites. So not everybody can just wake up and say they want to do engineering courses and selected courses in management science. For example, I don't think someone who studied Chemical engineering as an undergraduate will just opt to go for a biology or public istration master's. Likewise, I don't think someone with an arts, humanities or istration background can navigate themselves into a graduate study in engineering. If you have a way around it, you can as well share. I know a lot of people here think about like in the US after studies including the success of getting a H1-B Visa, following your defined 'ideal pathway' might not be easy for some

The school probably haven't received your scores. The time between scores being sent by ETS and the school receiving it varies. My advice is that you should inform them that you have requested that your score should be sent and also attach your unofficial score report

I was going through Teeside University page for my desired course. I would love if you can shed more light on some things that are not clear 1. The course is supposed to run for two years and the tuition is £13000. What is the payment plan for this. Will one be required to pay the whole tuition at once? 2. They stated they have some scholarships which is on merit based on undergraduate GPA and English proficiency score. I could see that their preferred English language test is IELTS even though they accept others like TOEFL. Do you have an idea of how they compare TOEFL for scholarship consideration. I saw something on their site about having an interview with the English language centre. Thanks Tobexin: |

A lot have been said from different angles on whether people should continue with the US struggles or not. IMO, it should be a matter of individual perspective. If you have the experience and really want to help, you should give your advice and also back it up with your constructive arguments. Just giving instructions is not the right way to go about it. We are all educated adults here, even as parents, we should not just tell our kids what not to do, instead, we need to explain why they should not do them. The most annoying part is that a said individual even suggested that the thread should be closed. I think it would be better if you channel your energy on the Canada thread and advise aspirants how they can successfully get in. This is the internet era and even if most of us has not left the shores of Nigeria, we know countries with good immigration policies. We know about Canada and Australia. We also know how difficult it is to get full funding in Canada, how expensive Australia schools are and how tedious the Canada Visa process is. I got an ission into University of Manitoba last year which also came with a scholarship worth almost 50% of the tuition. Very easy ission process, no English proficiency test, no GRE. I wrote the Dept whether there I can get an assistantship but it was all futile. Again I reviewed the Visa process and even though I got someone who wanted to put the $5400 CAD and the 1000CAD living expenses into my parents , the fact that decision can take very long (sometimes even between 6months to 1year) made me think twice. I decided not to go ahead to apply for the Visa, mind you, I know even if I set my mind into it and with some money, I can get into Canada via another means which is PR or a work permit due to my profession- atleast 2 people around me did it at the time. Most importantly, my dreams got bigger and I asked myself why I should even bother to pay a dime to get an international education. So I decided to write GRE and TOEFL and I have been on the journey since then and I trust God to perfect my efforts. Mind you, some of us are actually considering other things like our research area too which we might not get in other countries. Another reason I know why people consider US, especially those whose highest level of education is a Bachelor's is also because of the post-baccalaureate PhD that a lot of US schools offers. My point is we all have our different reasons for choosing a particular country for studies. In summary, those who are giving advice should not be discouraged and they should please also back it up with cogent reasons. Prospective students here should also try to take their time to do their research, think about the pros and cons and make sure they have convinced themselves it will be worth it before going forward. 20 Likes 1 Share |

Oh..It was why her reply was that way. Mail the graduate coordinator about funding and the funding package

Does your intended program require that you should secure a supervisor prior to applying? I am asking because from the Professor's reply, she did not seem to be taking responsibility or making a commitment. I don't know the content of your initial email. However, try sending one where you agree with her sentiments regarding the Twitter issue. Also, tell her 'point blank' that you want her to accept you into her lab and ask if there's any funding. You can even ask for the funding package. Additionally, try to send your application in asap and make sure she is included in your SOP

Thank you. My concern is that the estimated living expenses on their page is about 19k (14.5k for room & board and about 5k for travel, books and miscellaneous)

Hello house, I don't know if this is the right channel but I'll be glad if someone here can answer my question. A family friend recently moved to the UK on a work visa. He is planning to bring his teenage son who just finished sec school here in Nigeria to the UK as a dependent. The problem is he needs advice on the boy's education. The right path for the boy to continue his studies in the UK. He wants him to attend a college there but needs advice on the requirements. Thank you |

try to be sure of your eligibility. I don't think you are eligible for a Master of Nursing as an international graduate nurse Ajibolaoi: |

Good afternoon everyone and kudos to everybody for keeping this thread meaningful and helpful. I have been a silent reader on this thread since January when I applied to the University of Manitoba. I just got an offer of ission for a Masters degree September 2019 entry yesterday and have started putting my documents together for study permit.
