In my community, our kinsmen go to the police and obtain permission and treat any community issue as it regards their law. Most of you are just ignorant of how most cases are settled.

Have you been to a customary court or followed the cases adjudicated there? Do you know how they appoint the heads?

The police has no power in Nigeria to grant you or your community the permission to flog anyone.

Customary courts are not even presided by magistrates or judges, they are run by a lawyer and they apply only customs that do not infringe on human rights and dignity.

That was my I was worried about your mental health especially as Nairaland has given platform for oafs and mentally bankrupt people to express what they know nothing about.


You will be in jail if the man sues alleging breach of his dignity of person and rights.

Nigeria has elapsed to mob violence where an armed robber caught can be lynched to death or even a car thief can be beaten by a mob to death.

Yes the thief did wrong and everyone knows but if any member of the mob is caught, he will face the law.

Same applies to a community or individual like you who take laws into your hands in a case of domestic violence against the man who beats his wife

I believe your community is doing very well in order to promote unity and peace in a country where the government has woefully failed in all sectors, especially security. We only have weak institutions who do little or nothing to enact laws coupled with delayed court cases or flagrant disregard of court decisions and very corrupt security establishment

This is nothing new, I've heard stories of men getting publicly beaten by their fellow men for being abusive to their wives and they still went ahead and continued with their marriages afterwards.

Our neighbours' son back home who's also married was once beaten by his male neighbours for being abusive towards his wife, after they were done beating him up, they called the police on him... His stayed under police custody for a while before he was released, I don't know if his wife changed her mind and dropped the charges or what happened... His employers also dismissed him from his job upon hearing the news, but guess what? They're still together and allegedly his wife even helped him get another job, last time I saw them they were all smiles and looked happy together, even though we don't know how's life behind closed doors.

Anytime they bring up any issue, you always have a neighbour who has experienced it. 🤭

But lots of women have poison their husband to death to make way for their side dicccck. Woman are the devil and any right thinking man shouldn't put his hand on the devil because you simply can't win. So many housewife's have abuse their spouse physically, emotionally and mentally using different weapons from insults, extra marital affairs to denial of conjugal rights among lots to score home their needless point.
