Give a fool a hammer and everything looks like a nail. The World Street Journal, a paper that actually ed Trump in his second run for the presidency has come out to call Trump's tariffs the dumbest economic decision in over 50 years.
Trump's professor at Wharton, called Donald Trump the dumbest student he ever had. It is obvious.
It must be ed that the USMCA trade deal Trump just abandoned was the very deal he negotiated during his first term! He got Canada and Mexico onboard that agreement. Now he is tearing up the same agreement he authored.
If Trump is not careful, he may trigger a recession in the global economy. Watch what happens as stock markets open tomorrow to see just how scared the markets are about this . Trump thinks that foreign countries pay the tariffs. But anyone with basic knowledge of economics knows that the cost of the tariffs is borne by the final consumer in this case, American citizens. Trump's tariffs are a tax on the American consumer.
This will stifle demand, dislodge supply chains and force multiple companies to close. Trump's first tariffs against China saw China jettison US sourced Soybeans for other markets in Brazil and Argentina. Trump had to bail out US soyabean farmers with 25 billions US dollars but yet some farms closed down and some farmers committed suicide.
There is no upside to these tariffs. It will only lead the US into economic dire straits. Trump is and idiot.
Should the world leaders sit down and let one country mess up world's economy and the lives of civilians because the US currency is the world reserve currency? Its high time the world leaders came together, come up with an alternative reserve country to the dollar. This economic hostage must stop!!!

Canada will feel the tariff hit most.
China cant even be bothered. China is now too strong and economically too powerful to be bullied by some nonsense tariff. Americans would be the ones to pay for the tariff imposed on Chinese imports.
The tariff import Trump levied on china in his first tenure is still there, Biden increased it yet china export to USA soared from 450 to 560 billion dollars within same period. 10% tariff will change nothing.
It will take more than tariff to shift manufacturing away from china.
25% tariff on Mexico import is the most foolish decision of all. Most American companies manufacturing in Mexico are those who moved their factories from china to be closer to home.
These companies produce some of their cheaper products in Mexico so they can stay competitive. It's an integrated manufacturing assembly line btw Mexico and USA.
The truth is if USA wants to move his manufacturing back home and remain competitive, they NEED MEXICO.
Canada economy is heavily dependent on export to America. 75% of their products ends up in the USA. 25% tariff will be a killer on Canada's economy.
Unfortunately, Trump doesn't want to talk to Trudeau, He even insulted him by calling him Canadian governor.
Trudeau should swallow his pride and do what's best for canada. He should call for general election and Canadians better vote in conservative govt, that's their only saving grace. Maybe, Elon Musk can help them talk to trump.
The fentanyl and immigration thing is a ruse. Only 4000 migrants crossed illegally to USA from Canada last year and only 40 pounds of fentanyl out of 21,000 pounds imported to USA came from Canada.
Trump is simply looking for ways to bring manufacturing back home and it seems Canada is a soft target.
Nice analysis

It soared becoz China knows Trumps increase was coming.
Better to get them in b4 Trumps tenor.
It's a business decision not a feeling.
When about 50 % of your revenue comes from a place u can't joke with it.
The increase in price will lead to lower demand. Alternative product which is still from China will be sought. So China will still want to sell to the US.
Again the alternatives from other countries will be more expensive than China but depending on how the negotiation goes.
See most Chinese companies want the US market.
China will try to reroute thru Mexico or China which are also on Trumps list.
So it's a loss loss situation for all of them including the US.
Trump was the upper hand leverage that's all.

As of Canada, they are literally reliant on the US importation (of raw materials).

I Biliv God wants to use Trump to reduce America dominance in global scene.
People would start thinking outside USA, before you know, USA would see, nations are no longer depending on them for economic survival. When it gets to that level, they won't be able to control world again, since economy sanctions by then won't have effect on adversaries.

so how did trumps first term led to better economy?
tame your emotion...i know you are angry because of your god china...but tariff lead to more local manufacturing...america is a better manufacturing power than china...china just know how to flood the market with cheap stuffs...now tariffs will make chinese goods to have the same price with locally made ones.

Good morning, my daddies, mothers, brothers, and sisters on Nairaland Forum.
My name is Babatunde. I am 28 years old. I had a car accident four weeks ago in which my left leg got broken in three places. Please help me; I don't want my leg to be amputated.
Please help me; don't let me die like this. I was feeling very severe pain in my leg this morning before my nurse gave me a painkiller injection to subdue the pain. Please, I need your . My leg has collected the #60,000 left on me. I am broke and still need funds to settle the treatment bill of my broken leg.
Please help me. I am soliciting your help because I have spent the #60,000 left on me on the leg. My parents have tried too. I need your help to continue my medication and daily care of my broken leg.
The bonesetter working on my broken leg said it will take 6-8 months for the bones to together very well. Which means I will spend 6-8 months lying in bed every day.
My people now carry me to do the private things I do on my own. Can't go to the bathroom on my own; my brother bathes me. I can't rush to the toilet whenever I am caught short; I have to call my people on the phone to take me to the toilet. Please help me.
The bonesetter charged us the sum of #120,000; we've paid #80,000. The nurse who stitched the wound on my leg and who will be giving me injections and prescribing drugs for me till my leg totally heals charged us #60,000; we've paid #40,000.
Every three days, we hire a car to take me to the bonesetter's house; we pay #2000 for this per day.
We have paid part of the treatment bill. Where I am having an issue now is how to pay up the remaining treatment bill and how to get funds to pay for the transportation fare to the house of my bonesetter every three days. Please help me. I am broke, and my family has really tried for me. Please, I need your help to take good care of my leg every day.
Please, my bank details are:

Though I love TRUMP for his patriotism and nationalism BUT he should not forget that we are living in an interconnected world and no one can make a forest. Yes, the American interest should be his priority in dealing with the outside world provided it is done diplomatically and not condescendingly.
The extremism with which Trump is going about with his Americanism is worrisomely counterproductive. The world is no longer a global village square where the American president is the only person dictating the course of events from the rostrum to the crowd gazing at the master. President Trump, thread softly!
I do not doubt that all the Western countries involved in the tango will come out stronger as they will be forced to produce what they consume and depend less on imports. What are the strategies of the Nigerian leadership in this equation to promote national interests? I guess, they like the leaders before them, will continue stealing the commonwealth and stashing it away in the Western vaults. When will the Nigerian leaders have common sense??
