[quote author=Rachie83 post=127108991]Hello everyone, it's nice to come across this thread. I around 2916/17 I used to read on thread like this while I was in Nigeria hoping to find myself in the US someday but exactly end of 2017 I got in with my hubby. Anyway to those who still contemplating of coming to US do not give up your dream although US is very hard to get in now but some people are still coming in. US is a land of opportunities with less cost of living compare to Canada and UK although it depends on the State you are. If you are a new immigrant midwest states are the best for you(Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Iowa, part of Illinois,
Missouri etc) interm of settling in on time because the cost of living is cheaper and a lot of job opportunities for new Comer although the cold is much during the winter. I would not advise new comers with no legal status to stay in Atlanta, Texas, California, Florida etc Atlanta Georgia is out of the pictures because the state pays lower and thanks

It's a known fact that every home in lagos then were addicted to the radio compared to present. I couldn't stop reading as you took me down to memory lane through the modern day of broadcasting with Ray power fm 100.5. I fell in love with Dennis the menace ogi, late Steve kadiri etc. But the list wouldn't be complete and unfair without the inclusion of keke and d1 who are the pioneer, arrow head of the present day music industry through effective media Proficiency. Every Friday's i made it a duty to listen to their countdown on radio, and later at night with ait jams. Rhythm fm later stole the show as I became over addicted listening to the station for close to 24hours daily. JAJ programme by 7pm is one thing I can't do without to make my day complete. I recall I have to buy this red radio with Big Torchlight to quench my appetite for this purpose.
Factly speaking, the reason for the loss of interest listening to radio stations is because there's no more professionalism on the part of the OAP. Unlike when we were growing up where most presenters are known to speak the Queen's English in the Nigerian way. But nowadays, presenters that has not even left the shore of this country would be forming American accent without a message to convey to listeners.
petesunday:
The biggest bus station in Accra is known as Circle, situated near Adabraka, close to Kwame Nkrumah Interchange. All the buses taking people from Lagos usually stop here. There is also a huge Nigerian influence in the area. Vienna City, a very popular hangout spot for Nigerians and also a business spot for Nigerian prostitutes, is located here.
I took a cab straight from Circle to East Legon, where my brother lived. I can only compare East Legon with the Lekki residential area in Lagos. It is cool, beautiful and serene. I really ire the infrastructure in Ghana which I must confess, is better maintained than here in Nigeria. But I couldn't but notice the dominant presence of Nigerian businesses. They used Dangote cement to build houses, subscribe to Globacom telecoms network and bank with UBA and GTB, all Nigerian brands. There are also Nigerians everywhere you go, and you would easily notice them; they are never quiet. There was even an Igbo chief on our street in East Legon with the Nigerian coat of arms boldly engraved on his compound gate.
While I have met several foreigners in Nigeria, they usually don't mix up freely with the local population the way they do in Accra. You can easily sight a white man drinking beer at a roadside bar. I couldn't help converting prices to naira and this was how I realized things are more expensive. A bottle of beer for instance, was around 5 Cedis and this was around 500 naira. In 2015, many beer palours still sold for N250.
They also had a couple of delicacies I would have loved to see in Nigeria, like the coconut water, which is sold in restaurants and street corners and served chilled with a straw. This drink is simply wonderful.
The day after my arrival, we visited a lounge in downtown Accra and more than 70% of the songs played there were Nigerian. As we walked past the parking lot, we spotted a range rover without plate number. It was not difficult to realised they were Nigerians. We ended up partying together that night.
If you're smart IT skills will pay you better. Between N500k - N1m, and a duration of 6months to 12months will guarantee you a Core Networking skills or Cybersecurity skills at a Professional level.
Let's split the matter into parts so we don't loose focus.
A. Engine Electronics
* Buy a personal scan tool.
Buy a portable scanner so check for errors when they appear, if you don't know what the codes mean, enter into cartalk, post the codes and we will guide accordingly.
Some vehicles have had their warning lights removed by technicians and card dealers, this is the time to restore and scan.
* Scan code results.
Scan code results that have to do with the following will seriously affect your vehicle fuel efficiency by as much as 40-50percent.
Engine running rich or lean codes
02 sensor codes
P0128 coolant threshold
All timing related codes
Evaporative emission codes
Catalytic converter codes
Engine misfires
MAF codes
Exhaust gas recirculation codes
Variable timing codes
VTech codes
Boost pressure codes
There are more, but these are the common ones. Have them solved properly (not by clearing code) and you will save a lot on petrol.
B. Suspension
* Tyre pressures : keep tyre pressures at recommended levels (check drivers door or fuel tank cover) vehicles with low tyre pressures, consume more fuel than vehicles with the right tyre pressures.
* Wheel alignment, Ensure your alignment is on point, when you have front wheels fighting with them selves and asphalt, it causes unwanted drag, which results in more fuel consumption.
* Keep windows up when on long trips , this will reduce the amount of wind resistance the car makes, less drag more savings on fuel.
* Aerodynamics, the abuse of vehicle suspension in the name of raising vehicle height usually has consequences when done poorly, when you have the head up and tail down, you are fighting to get through the air, and constantly loosing efficiency to wind resistance. Same thing happens when you load 4 adults at the back and fill the trunk with load
* Sticky brakes . brake binding is a situation where the vehicle is being held down by the brake pads without application of the brake pedal. Could be caused by work done on the brake switch near brake pedal, rusted calliper pins rusted calliper prisons, faulty abs pump. Whatever the case, if you get home, splash some water on each wheel, if you have instant steam from any wheel it is binding and should be checked .
C. Service and Maintenance
* Filters sparkplugs and MAF.
Some cars never get a replacement engine air filter all their days in Nigeria , replace your engine air filter with each oil change , clean and re gap your sparkplugs to the required spark gap.
Carefuly clean MAF sensor with the required MAF cleaner, please do not do MAF cleaning unless you are sure it is required, it is not an item to clean regularly.
* Fuel Pressure
We don't have very clean petrol, so if your car begins to feel lazy especially after a long trip, might be time to check the fuel filter and strainer inside the fuel tank , if clogged replace, you will get better miles per gallon. In most vehicles, low fuel pressure will not show up as an error when scanned.
* Blocked Exhaust system.
The inability of exist gasses to quickly leave the engine into the atmosphere, will cost you more on petrol.
Some vehicles are naturally predisposed to catalyst blockage e.g Honda , Acura , Ford , Kia , Hyundai. If your vehicle is one of those you might want to get it checked out, also if your catalyst has been stolen in the past and was refilled will wire mesh or a catalyst clone which also gets blocked easily you should have it checked.
Know your vehicle, if a vehicle starts dragging, something is off and should be checked . Blockages in exhaust in exhaust systems will not show up on scan results for most vehicles, it takes a smart tech/owner to detect it in early stages.
sevule: Get a Green Card
This is definitely the most important step. It opens up doors that will for ever be closed without this little card. If you are on an F1 visa, you should start thinking about how you want to get your green card. Do you plan to get it through marriage or work? This topic alone should probably have its own thread. Because this topic is so large, I will leave it for last

When I see roads like this I just THANK GOD FOR OBASEKI
Therefore, why the hullabaloo when he was named among the most influential 100 people by attacking the poor lady that authored the write up. It's high time we accept the verdict of the election of Feb 25 for the betterment and interest of our nation as all hands are needed to move the nation forward. No amount of insults, jabs, court summons can shake someone that has gone through thick and thin during the course of struggles. Obidients should know this and know peace, cos our President shall be inaugurated on May 29, 2023, shikena
Phantom233:
it's only an slowpoke that will refer to the FCT as a state, Nigeria has 36 States, The FCT holds a special status. That's why we say 36states and the FCT.
Did you just say, "and" which means an inclusive state, not an exclusive state.
PHIPEX:
Who can be likened to be the Governor of FCT between the FCT minister and the President?
1. For those who said FCT is like every other state, does it mean the Minister of FCT is like the Governor of FCT? If that is correct, does it mean Elrufai and the current Governor of Bauchi (who were once FCT ministers) have been governors of more than one state which is a breach of the constitution?
2. If the President is the Governor of FCT, should the President not win 25% of same FCT?
Isn't it Obvious that the Federal Capital Territory has a special status in the constitution?
Have you asked yourself what makes your vote that you casted in Abuja more special and important than the one casted in your village? Are you saying, you are more Nigerian than those in your village? Is there any criteria that qualify you to be in FCT, Abuja?
Dissecting on the controversies that trailed the TIME's 100 influential people, it's correct to say that HE Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President-Elect is the most influential Nigerian going by his achievement politically, influence and impact on the society. He's a man that stuck his head out during our nation's period of trial where he paid the price for democracy. Most of our politicians today draws from his wealth of experience and leadership style in all sphere. Who among our present day leaders has stood tall for the past 30years in the struggles and deserves to be recognised as the most influential person?
Frekim:
Award-winning author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche, in an interview with ARISE NEWS on Tuesday, addressed the recent article she wrote on the conduct of the 2023 presidential election which has since gone viral.
Titled ‘Nigeria’s Hollow Democracy’, she described the election as “a slap to the face of the Nigerian people and an insult to collective intelligence of Nigerians.”
Clarifying her position during the interview, the writer stated that the Nigerian people deserve an explanation rather than the “two-facedness of the US government” when it comes to African politics.
“This was an election that was unforgivably flawed and there’s evidence for that. The statement about technical glitches being the cause is unconvincing?” she said.
Speaking on her intervention, she said, “I wrote the letter to preserve this truth and call out the United States for what I consider two-facedness when it comes to Africa. They criticize African countries for being undemocratic and endorse the undemocratic process.”
She called for proper explanation from the Independent National Electoral Commission regarding the controversies surrounding the election as the conclusion that it was a matter of technical difficulties was “unconvincing”.
“Nigerians deserve the respect of an institution that is supposed to shepherd a democracy. So nobody has come out to explain to Nigerians how that happened.
“There’s a statement of technical glitches; it’s unconvincing and knowing how much hope and trust Nigerians invested in this election, knowing that nigeria is a low-trust society means that if people are sincere and there’s nothing to hide, then you make an extra effort to go out and explain to Nigerians what happened.”
When asked about fears of criticism and threats of lawsuits for false allegations that were suspected to be made in the article, Chimamanda stated that not only did she expect it but also had no fears of this as she had stated in the article that though they were rumours with no evidence, it highlighted a need to check each one and provide the people with an explanation of the malpractices that took place during the election.
She lamented about her inability to acquire her PVC and her disappointment in INEC for flaws in the election. When questioned on her stance on the statement from Wole Soyinka who accused Yusuf Datti of making fascist statements, she said that rather it was INEC and the government who were fascist for disenfranchising people of a fair election without an explanation.

I wonder the disparity in the date, I just got a message now, 11th April, tomorrow for training, but no requirements stated, training center was moved to another local government in Benin City, Edo State.
