Thank you so much! My baby is still newborn so weighs very small. I will just have him on my lap as advised. Thank you!

Pwinkle1:

Hey! I think what happens is that some people who have bigger babies and don’t want the discomfort, they buy a full ticket so the baby can use the car seat on the seat. However, for a smaller baby the bassinet will work just work - I presume your baby is still new-ish, so your lap/bassinet will serve the purpose, save your coins Sis!
SimiMaya: 4:44pm On Jan 28, 2023
Thank you so much. Found this very helpful. To add him on my lap is about $66 but to pay for a seat was about $808. AirCanada. I found myself in an unfortunate situation where my return ticket had a layover in Canada, now I have to apply for a transit visa for myself. I’m just concerned about processing time but looks like I have no choice.

Somandla:
Congratulations on your baby trust you & baby are doing well

Just add the baby as a infant on lap. after you have paid for infant ticket, ask the airline to reassign your seat to bulkhead seat with baby bassinet, it is first come first serve & they are only 4 onboard.

If no bassinets seats are available or fully booked, request at check-in to block off the seat next you, if the flight is empty they will assist in getting you a row to yourself to be comfortable.
Top tip: only check in your infant car seat at the aircraft door, this ables you to take your car seat inside the aircraft if there is a seat available without you paying for a seat.

How much is your airline charging to add infant to your booking & which airline?

SimiMaya: 9:38am On Jan 28, 2023
So I am getting an infant ticket but I am seeing two options - on lap vs in seat. It looks like I need to have a travel restraint system (a car seat) and I need a seat to be able to install the car seat. So I was wondering if I should just purchase the in lap ticket (which is 10% of my ticket) and hope to find an empty seat to strap my baby in or if I must buy a seat (which is only about $100 cheaper) but still expensive

flourishing247:

Your question is not so clear. Are you talking about buying infant ticket? If yes then just buy it. It is just 10% of the cost of your ticket. Also you can search for a cheaper airline.
SimiMaya: 9:34am On Jan 28, 2023
Oh I see.

I am already talking to the airline to add my baby, thank you so much. It just looked like the information on the website of most airlines require a ticket- whether in lap or on seat. And needed me to procure a seat if I wanted to use a car seat.

So how would the baby bassinet work for take off and landing? Is there a restraint? Thank you so much for taking your time to respond to me.

Debbieeeeeee:

You don’t require a car seat in the aeroplane, all strollers and car seats are checked in. A baby bassinet will be provided for you by the flight attendants.
Did you leave on a one way ticket? If you didn’t leave on a one way ticket then you only need to call the airline to add your baby to your ticket, they’ll give you the cost implication over the phone and ask you to pay via card over the phone.

Hi All
So just looking for some advise to save costs. I am trying to book my return flight back to Nigeria, wondering if I must buy a seat so I can use a car seat for my baby or I can just take a gamble and board with hopes of finding an empty seat. These tickets are so pricey.

What would you advise?

SimiMaya:
Soooo, I successfully entered via Dallas PoE today. They didn’t ask but I willingly divulged that I was also going to have my baby. They took me to secondary inspection and the guy just asked for paperwork with the Dallas doctor and mode of payment. Showed him the paperwork and confirmed I’ll be paying with my credit card. He gave me back my port and I was granted entry for 6 months. So glad!

Duly noted. Thank you.
Debbieeeeeee:

Zero balance letter stating you paid your bills in full and you’re not indebted to the facility(hospital), receipts from doctor, paediatrician, anaesthesia(if you use) and other services rendered to you in the process.
SimiMaya: 10:44am On Dec 06, 2022
Thank you so so much Debbie.

You’ve been extremely helpful throughout this process. Please what document do I need to get from the doctors/hospital to show I paid all the bills in full?

Debbieeeeeee:

Congratulations you made it! I wish you a safe delivery. Cheers!
SimiMaya: 10:44pm On Dec 05, 2022
okay sure, I will. Thanks a lot!

flourishing247:

That's wonderful. Next step is to ensure all your bills are cleared. Go to the birth thread so you can find out everything you need to know especially documents to show you cleared all. This is to avoid issues in your renewal.

Hello, please I am flying out of Abuja Nigeria with Lufthansa on Saturday, transiting through FRA to Dallas, US. I’m Nigerian flying with a Nigerian port and was fully vaccinated last year against Covid -19. Do I still need a negative covid test to fly or would my certificate of vaccination suffice?

Also, at PoE, I want to say I’m here for vacation and to have my baby even though I got the visa for tourism but its B1/B2 (which is the same for medical visa). Is this advisable or should I stick with tourism?

I think you should just keep trying. Use a laptop and use chrome.

I had similar challenges when I tried using my phone.

Please can someone help me with answers to this? My due date is fast approaching. Agents are charging $300 as service charge only to fill form. I want to apply for Emergency interview so I need to fill my form and pay my visa fee ASAP. [/quote

I was 33 weeks and really showing , was sure they would ask at POE what was the nature of my travel , but to my surprise he just asked if I had any fruits and fresh meat and where I was going to stay .. and then stamped and said welcome to America.

hiya did you declare you were going to have your baby at the PoE?

NBako:
I thought I put this out here Incase it helps anyone. I just had my baby in New Jersey and the Dr and hospital I used was reasonably charged. I have family in NJ so I didn’t have to pay for accommodation. I was happy after birth no other hidden charges, having a baby in the us you must pay for a dr differently from hospital charges, Not sure how to explain that part sha!! But your Obs/gynea isn’t going to see you at a hospital they have their own practice that’s d with a bigger hospital where you do the birthing ,if this make sense.
I have attached a flyer, it’s all the details of the dr and prices. I hope this helps

Phew. Okay. I think I’ll just declare if asked. I have proof of funds, doctor’s appointment in Dallas, estimate from the hospital and everything else.
Fingers crossed!

Somandla:
I entered USA, Phoenix point of entry in October, declared I was there to give birth and I had proof of funds should they have asked, and if they asked why USA, I was going to be straight forward and say dual citizenship, I was 35weeks and visibly showing.

Point of entry questions
Cbp: What brings you to the USA today?
Me: to birth my baby

Cbp: how long would you be visiting
Me: 2 months

Cbp: ports please, goodluck on your birth.

I and hubby went to agriculture to declare our foods, but they just said we should continue to our connecting flight.

Flew BA, had fit to fly from Dr, no questions asked.

Please google and read recent 'US Birth Tourism 2022' bulletin by state.gov so you don't have issues at PoE with CBP.
With respect to COVID-19, each country has specific entry and exit rules, so check the rules for Nigeria, Frankfurt and US (Dallas).

Got it. Thank you!

Thank you so much. What notary please? With the embassy?

Piepiehoney:
As soon as you get the baby’s birth certificate send a soft copy to your husband. He should book an appointment online for the notary.
He should go with the birth certificate and port photo of the baby and his international port.

Thank you so much. Got it for a two week vacation in December but I’m due in January/early February. I am a first time traveller and haven’t used the visa at all.

Debbieeeeeee:

Please you won’t be denied entry don’t jinx your travel even before you embark.
What was the purpose you got the visa for ? Did you use it for the purpose ?
In the case you didn’t use or haven’t used it for the purpose it was procured, research and get a hospital and doctor, carry enough money to show and be coherent with your answers at the point of entry and you’ll be fine.
As a tip- maybe pay a deposit to the hospital or doctor before you land and also have a cogent a reason as to why you didn’t use the visa for the purpose it was meant for (if you didn’t)
. You’ll be fine don’t worry!
