Is Express entry still a viable option? Even people in Canada are finding it hard to meet the high scores. Lots of people are going back home to get foreign work experience for more score points. If you’re outside Canada, the best shot right now is to learn French if you can.

Good afternoon all, I have a few questions about my application
1. My sponsor’s closing balance is 50.2m and the total cost of my first year in Canada will be 55m, I also added 4 of my sponsor’s engineering award contracts that total up to 920m with 40-50% advance payments in the beginning of all of the contracts and a land document worth 82m. Will these ing documents be enough?
2. I submitted my application April 15th, biometrics done April 16th. I’m a minor and I haven’t received any medical update yet. Does that mean ircc has waived off the medicals because it says “we don’t need your medicals yet”.
3. In my sponsor’s bank statement, he had inflows of over 100m and an opening balance of 8m, will that be an issue?
Thank you
Be expecting a refusal

Hey Uche,
I've seen some of your comments in the past, and I mostly agree with what you've said.
However, I can sense some frustration creeping in — which, given the current economy, is understandable.
There is no one-size-fits-all template for success, but there are certain steps you can follow to set goals and prepare yourself effectively.
You can't come to Canada and expect to compete in the job market without globally recognized certifications. https://www.shiksha.com/online-courses/articles/top-certifications-to-boost-your-career/
You can't study a course that's not in demand and expect to just "wing it" — I honestly find that unrealistic.
You'll struggle, and low-demand jobs will still be waiting for you even after completing your studies — just like the case of Badadvisor.
Your résumé can include any skill you’ve genuinely learned and can confidently defend.
If you've studied and mastered something like Azure Cloud Computing through training — even without work experience — and you understand it well, you can include it. As long as you're certified, trained, and competent, it’s valid.
Let’s be honest — who hasn’t included a skill on their résumé they aren’t 100% experienced with?
The point is, if you add a skill, be ready to defend it, demonstrate it, and have the certification to back it up.
Someone once accused me of lying when I explained how a person got a job paying $85,000 straight out of school. But the truth is, the real work was done before he even came to Canada.
He earned his certifications before starting his Master's program. He began interviewing while still in school — getting rejected over and over, but learning from each experience.
Now, people say I’m misdirecting others.
But when I look around my workplace, I mostly see Chinese and Indian colleagues — with only a very small number of Nigerians
I know we, as Nigerians, can do better. We can come better prepared and outperform anyone.
So please — come to Canada prepared.
One small thing, Uche — when you're less busy, take some time to go through this page and see the verified salaries of people working in Canada.
Yes, I know the U.S. pays more, but look at what people working independent jobs in Canada are earning.
True, Microsoft's recent layoffs affected some people here in Canada too — but many are still earning big bucks because of their globally recognized certifications, experience, and skills.
I was laid off in late 2023 with 300 people globally due to the economy, but I landed another job early 2024. People are still earning well — you just need to put in the work.

I am sure you are aware that overall population of china and india is higher in canada than Nigeria based on immigration , even in low wage jobs, i think it is irrelevant of what you are saying, referring to a particular occupation or strategy. Reasons why you see more Indians and Chinese in your work place. In canada populations of India alone is 6 × (times) of Nigerians population,While China is Nigerians populations multiplied by 3.Based permanent residents issions from 2015 to 2023 and about 1.35Million indians live in canada based on 2021 census.

Even those who did everything right are now stuck.
Jobs are scarce, PGWPs are expiring, and IRCC keeps changing the rules.

Employers are overwhelmed, and desperation is everywhere.
The system now filters more than it welcomes!!
The system is confused as I speak! While they are gradually given life to some eligible and expired PGWPs,With the reduction of PR slots in Canada.

With Trump’s new tariffs on Canadian goods, things are getting worse since 80% of Canada’s exports go to the U.S., hitting many manufacturing industries hard. But tell the person not to give up. Keep applying, tailor their resume for each job, network on LinkedIn, and try temp agencies like Adecco or any around ur area Persistence still pays off.

Good day everyone,
I have just deferred my ission after getting to canada so I can start by September. I was tild I wint be abke to work for that time. The school give me few days to see if i want to do it.
Please can anyone advise, is getting a study permit extension so complicated?
Yes you are not authorised to work if deffered ission by law.....
As IRCC request students enrollment status or progress twice a year from DLI ,You must have authorisation from school when you deffer the ission and keep any documents issued on file for future use..
As it may effect your pgwp, without proof of deffer from your DLI when applying for pgwp and submitting transcript for that purpose.
Study permit extension is not complicated if you give simple and reasonable reasons for extension.

I can understand your point of view exactly as it is, believe me. But this incoming "party/government" means different things (in of the benefit and the shortfalls) to different group of people (immigrants, people in the pool etc). For instance, I am happy that education category was added but transportation category guys are unhappy because they were removed from category draws. For me, Liberal winner means continuity of the current liberal immigration rules and that means education category is here to stay, but a Conservatives win, there'll definitely be a Total overhaul of the system and it'll get more difficult although i believe its the conservatives that can truthfully acknowledge the unemployment crises and tackle it. I'm quite empathetic to everyone's cause but man still gatz look out for himself...lol. I hope you understand... May the best man win!
Seems like conservatives would have slashed overall PR ission to 200,000 to 250,000 annually and linking PR ission to housing availability in canada,if there is unavailability of housing more cuts on PR issions and this means decreasing economic migration, won't favour any category in the pool with 200k PR target, and TWP only to address labour shortages like agriculture and jobs that Canadians won't do,while Liberal intends to stabilise PR ission to less than 1% of the population and priorities on those already in Canada for PR, increasing francophone ission to 12% of PR issions by 2029 .

Hey guys,
I’m in a very tricky situation and I need some advice from people here from different walks of life before I make my decision.
I’m currently in Canada 26 years of age, and in a serious dilemma.
I’m currently trying to get PR and it seems I have a couple of options with its own uncertainty pros and cons, and I need advice from you guys after getting advice from a lawyer.
My base CRS points is 476
And I have a few things I can do to circumvent this low score:
1. Foreign Work Experience:
I have 7 months of valid work experience in Tech in Nigeria, but that’s the problem… it’s just 7 months and I need a full year. But I also did NYSC and have access to a person at my PPA that can give me reference letter, and have all documents I need to my NYSC experience. But I wasn’t paid for the NYSC except the government pay of 33k. My lawyer said NYSC can’t be used to claim foreign experience but I’ve heard stories of people using theirs. So I wanted to ask if anyone here has successfully used NYSC **Recently** to get PR. This would bring my points to a respectable 526.
2. Marriage
This I really don’t want to do, but I have a child coming (Canadian citizen) with a woman here. The pregnancy was a mistake but she wants a child so she kept it and I also agreed to help out. I don’t like her enough to marry her, but seeing my circumstances I might be forced to. She really likes me and I think I can convince her to a marriage, but this is not something I would like to do ATALL. Lawyer said it’s my best chance since we already have a kid together, it’s almost a slam shut case I would get it with this route. But the girl is very bipolar, she can switch up at any moment and lawyer warned me that her switching up could also hurt my chances as much as it can help my chances.
3. Refugee
This is the worst option, as I went to undergrad school in the UK, did nysc, worked in Nigeria and moved to Canada. It will be very hard to argue that I had issues, but mehn I need anything at this point.
4. Go back home & get the remaining 5 months experience
We all know how Nigeria is, this is a death choice, I’m basically giving up with this option. But I have 7 months of foreign experience right now, I can go back to Nigeria and find work for the remaining 5 months (gods willing) and then apply with my points at 536, and I will have to wait for ITA in Nigeria. This is most likely the safest option but the most mentally devastating one.
Please folks I NEED your advice as I only have 8-9 months left in Canada, time is running out and I need something to use an option and stick to it, but I’m not sure which route to go.
Thank you!
On (2)
When You are Courage enough to went there and have a kid when girl is bipolar and she didn't switch up at that Moment hmm...
On the best interest of a child I may agree with the lawyer on (2)
Immediately you go back to Nigeria, your village people will you,Another risk factor you must consider ,add this as number (5)

Are you now into student recruitment? Because some of your arguments are based on sentiment rather than fact. With the current projected figures, more than half of temporary residents in Canada will not get PR—take it or leave it. Please look at the data yourself and see how many students will be without PR this year, still with no option. Do you think everyone can manage arranged employment, which is not even cheap?
I would not advise people to fall for the PGWP offer for 4-year BSc courses that fall into management programs, which are not cheap. You will struggle to find work, even for those who finish earlier and are looking for arranged employment to gain the work experience needed for PR. Please educate people to focus on the Express Entry route to get PR instead of rushing into the expensive student route.
We can see that many students are facing difficulties paying those huge fees and are uncertain about the pathway to PR. I know HND/ND students who arrived via Express Entry as PRs from Nigeria, and some older individuals who learned French and got ITA with a lower CRS score. So, why the rush to enter a college or university in Canada, which the majority cannot even afford.
Into students recruitment where did you got that info from lol ..
Educate people to use Express entry,do you thought that every individual that enter Canada via study route has previous post secondary education or previous work experience to succeed in express entry or is express entry easiest pathway for Canadian PR,Now that the new prime minister of canada based on his immigration plan to include Higher language proficiency requirements for skilled workers in regulated professions if that happens it can even knock some candidates off in express entry...later you'll say I don't have facts use Google...
Give me the percentage of individuals getting PR via Express Entry outside canada now that they are concentrating more on in canada Temporary residents.

The birth rate arugment cannot be table before canadian voters and no party will raise that in an election year as Many Canadians are frustrated with rising unemployment, even newcomers struggling to find professional work, along with high housing costs, the cost of living, and overcrowded schools and daycares, with little development to the growing population. Many believe these issues stem from uncontrolled immigration. There's also concern that colleges may lose funding or even close due to low enrollment from international students. However, many argue that education should not rely solely on funds from foreign students, as this adds strain to already stressed social services.
Whether birth rate is table or not to Canadians which they don't necessarily needs to...
The fact remains that the country has low birth rate and high death rates from statistics, until the issue is resolved they will rely on immigration from time to time..
The country is also not ready for expansion,I can when previous immigration minister was on a press conference on immigration level plan he said "Canadians doesn't need to build houses anymore" referring to cap on immigration, since Canadians are blaming shortage of housing on immigrants..
The cap is already having serious effects on colleges as of now IRCC has relaxed pgwp eligibility for students pursuing Bachelor's degree to apply regardless of field of study, this benefits colleges offering Bachelor's degree programmes, this a new information spreading allover the place ,I can't confirm exact date updated on IRCC website..

My only fear is that many students don't see the bigger issue ahead. With the current projections, more than half of the current temporary residents already inside Canada which include student will not be able to get PR. So, a smart student needs to position themselves in a good advantage, which may include learning French to have an edge.
Well the focus of the government is to transit most of them to PR instead of bringing newcomers to 🇨🇦 canada through PR pathway...
Even some province like Yukon is offering letters for TFW's in yukon canada 🇨🇦 working on may 2024,that has work permit expiring in 2025 a 2years work permit extension to give time for transition to PR or to retain work experience..

Realistically, she cannot cut down more than what Miller has done, cos the truth of the matter is they still need people. They might increase enforcement removals but reducing the numbers further will be counter productive. Some schools are struggling with their finances, hoping that govt will offer , but with the looming presence of Uncle Sam and his tariffs, the govts are all saving funds to battle Uncle Sam, and this has somehow changed the election dynamics, the CONs have been struggling to get a good campaign line since their punching bag (JT) stepped down. If you noticed, the main talk of the election is now Uncle Sam not even Economy and Immigration to some extent like it was before. The US election has also shown people that politicians will always promise heaven and earth like Trump promised to bring down the cost of food from day one but the cost have even risen since he came in so the CONs trying to use that inflation message have been countered with what is happening across the border.
The problem with canada is that the country has low birth rate while birth rate has no significant increase against death rate..
In 2023/2024 according to statistics canada number of birth was 359,885− number of deaths was 344,593=15,292 natural growth..
As you can see if you deduct birth rate from death rate = only 15,292 natural population growth, the rest of the population growth is ⛽️ fuelled by pumping foreigners into the country, until the system solves its low birth rate, they will need more immigrants in years to come for economic growth and expansion.

It’s going to be tough, and it may not favor immigrants if she wants to increase her party's chances. With the federal election likely happening within the next two months as the new prime plan to call an early election , the Liberals will need to act quickly. Currently, Liberal ratings aren’t favorable, and immigration with the economic is a major issue. Even recent poll show that Over 80% of newcomers feel Canada is bringing in too many people without proper planning, and most Canadians believe immigration levels are too high. To improve her party’s image, she’ll need to take decisive actions, such as reducing immigration numbers, deporting overstayers, and cutting student visas. These steps may be the only way to secure a win, or else Pierre Poilievre Conservatives will win the next election
The PM is still maintaining temporary cap on immigration but focused on transiting temporary residents already in Canada over the years before the growth to permanent residents.

The authorization to work given to my husband after submitting the application will expire in a few days, does that mean he has to stop working until he a decision is made on our application? His employer is disturbing him to provide his work permit too.
What can i do please?
Note that I submitted the extension application at first because I needed time to complete my first program. When my first program was completed without hearing from ircc, I submitted my new LOA for a new program as addition to my ongoing application as advised here. Did I do anything wrong?
The rules says the person can continue working with conditions given to prior work permit until a decision is made on the application, even after the date given on work permit extension has elapsed, some employers may not know this..

Canada is hard, Canada is hard..., some people are finding their way quietly. I know someone on this thread that just bought his second house. He landed in the time that some of you all started posting about the hustle in the job market.
Go read this lady's diary (@geekybabe) in the nairaland diary section, she gave perfect description of what the job market is from a personal experience. She landed a job in the end.
Back at home, Nigerians buy jobs and buy their way through most things. Now I'm wondering how do some of them navigate through in the environment this competitive.
But there are lots of people that bought houses on mortgage 2 to 3 years after arrival in canada and it is not a big deal ,that doesn't mean also the person has fat bank ..
You should be aware that the government also pays housing benefit, including first home buyers amount paid by the government for first time home owners to suppress down payment made on mortgage with this even low income earners can purchase a house in canada..
Am sure this person you are talking about must have purchased a house on mortgage, then rent it out to pay for mortgage.
As long as you have stable job in Canada, you can purchase house and have the minimum down payment...however it is an investment since you are not wasting part of your income on rent..

The best one can do is to at least inform people so they can manage their expectations. An election is coming up within the next month or two. Both parties appear to have plans to reduce immigration (particularly temporary residents - students/post-graduate work permit holders). This policy will affect many students who moved to Canada in 2022/2023/2024 and are unable to transition to PR at the expiration of their work permits. Having a strategy is very important right now else the Canadian system will just suck an immigrant’s money and leave them stranded.
Even before 2018 some international students that came to Canada to study after pqwp expired are unable to transition to PR and you can still wonder why,at that time PR slots are lower than now including PNP slots..
They are reducing temporary residents in canada for those already in Canada to transition to PR though numbers are huge and reduce housing shortage.
After next election they are likely to continue to reign on temporary and permanent residents coming into the country and adjust PR particularly PNP slots..and in future a reform may be introduced to diversify international students mission targeting to reduce ission of international students majority coming from one country alone which is India taking over 41% of overall international student mission.
The cuts on PNP PR slots is political, it is only to punish provinces not taken share of asylum seekers that came to ontario and quebec to ease pressure on the two provinces..
As for express entry, they are continuing to consider in canada applicants as priority in all categories of draws, except French proficiency draws.

canada is not smiling.
They are just playing politics with PNP slots and immigration...
All these reduction on PNP Slots to 50% is a retaliation.....
A retaliation from federal to provinces not taken refugees or assylum seekers from ontario and quebec to ease pressure on the two provinces...
A warning from immigration minister before the cuts, they should expect pnp allocations cuts for not having share in assylum seekers..
Now the deal is, if a province wants allocations back they should take share in assylum seekers....
And non of these cuts effects quebec...

I am just curious here and let's analyze it.
You guys believe the target for dependents are just for Family Open Work Permits right?
So if someone says oh yeah your kids can come to school as minor in Canada but hey they can't have the privilege for work during or after high school....what is the goal after being a student? Probably they will need to have a post secondary education to earn their pgwp right and not enjoy family open work permit.
That's practically more burden for foreign Nationals as your kids can't qualify for high school jobs to help them save towards their education. This is at a time people are saying cost of living is high and there are no jobs. It still boils to my earlier point that for now they are not oriented to allow the foreign immigrant population grow. They just don't want to tell it to your face that they don't want children dependent of foreign immigrants to come school in Camada.
They probably want to limit foreigners taking jobs that Canadian children will do including assylum seekers with open work permit waiting for decisions on assylum claims...
And reducing burden on healthcare system owp holder is eligible to province health coverage unlike international student.

I guess my post is affecting your business of selling TEF and other travel packages to your gullible followers, but let me correct the wrong impression you’ve posted. Please note that majority of jobs posted on Job Bank are either outdated, fake, or dummy jobs created to secure LMIA. That’s why you keep applying a million times without any reply. I hope the Canadian government will clean up this mess and fraud, so your statistics based on Job Bank are 100% wrong.
Haven't the government started cleaning up lmia fraud since may 2024.
They no longer process lmia work permit to some business in low wage stream and increase in 20% of hourly wage to workers coming into Canada in high wage stream so you probably see less of lmia Job offers in Job Bank than before..
Even to remove lmia Job offer points 👉 in express entry system to be effective in spring 2025 👉 https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/2024/12/canada-takes-action-to-reduce-fraud-in-express-entry-system.html
I will agree 👍 with you on Job Bank some jobs will be posted and will be d until with a given date even though you apply for that same job within that given date, it may no longer be available, if you go to that same company that posted the same job,you will find out that some candidates have used references to get the same job posted by same company on job bank and while there are those on queue that applied directly to the company waiting for a chance for interview, then you will wonder what is the job that was posted on Job bank for..
