I plan migrating to Canada soon, though I plan on starting the process next year. I have been thinking of switching profession to IT here in nigeria to help in of work expedience before migrating.
Am considering two areas in IT Oracle Database istator or Data Science/Big Data(The future of IT like it's been said). Which of these two will be the best career path in Canada?
Thanks

Please can someone explain accepting contract job as Incorporated vs T4. I heard incorporated gets paid higher but won't you be remitting same taxes and deductibles as T4, coupled with all the paperwork you will have to do yourself? Read somethings about incorporated but still not understanding the concept with like PSB of 44.5% tax, the salary don finish now. Which of the two is better and why? Thanks

I got this from a recruiter trying to get me on a contract engagement.

How to Incorporate

The fastest and most cost effective way to incorporate is to apply directly on the business website of Industry Canada. The fee can be charged to a credit card and the applicant will usually receive their company documents and corporation number within a couple of hours up to 24 hours.
Go to www.corporationscanada.ic.gc.ca
Select English
Next page > In the middle column first option is incorporate a business
Next page > Choose "Online" option

Please note: In the middle column you will see a link for "guide to federal incorporation"; you may use this for reference * Next page > Once you have chosen the online option you will now be on a different website (http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/cgi-bin/sc_mrksv/corpdir/corpFiling/.cgi?lang=e)

As the next few steps you need to " a new " and then "Go to Online Filing" and just follow the PROMPTS

Things you need to keep in mind while filling out the application form:
Indicate the Minimum amount of directors at 1, and maximum 10
Be sure to release Type A and B share -> Do NOT write any restrictions and simply accept the default settings
Your business address should be your home address

GST Number

You will also need a GST number, which is handled through the site, but that is not required immediately. (You'll want it in your first few weeks on the contract... its free to obtain one and not necessary until you hit 30K in revenues)

Payroll Setup

In order for us to set up the payroll you will need a business bank from a Canadian bank. However, this you may take your time to complete; I suggest you provide me with it before you start, so you can get paid.

Once you incorporate, please take your incorporation information to your bank, and open a business in the name of your incorporation. YOU WILL NOT BE PAID into your personal bank , and WILL REQUIRE a business to be opened. Once done, please ask your bank for an official 'direct deposit'; form that shows the bank address, and the bank number associated with your .

Incorporated Consultants, advantages:
Higher net income; no regular tax deductions
Possible tax advantages
Greater access to capital
Limited liability
Business credibility
Separate legal entity
Help legitimize business expenses

Its been a while I did ICAN o, i hope my brain still dey there, lols.

Thanks for sharing, i have been thinking long and hard about this and almost concluded to start A afresh in Canada.

Assuming I started writing ACCA but don't conclude before moving to Canada, what happens? Do you suppose I could write in Canada too?

Kindly share how you intend to study for the exams, tutoring centered, online?

I need to decide soon. Thanks

Apologies for the late response. I'm aware ACCA has centres in Canada but I think it's only in Ontario. It would not very convenient writing it there I suppose.

I didn't attend any tuition centre since I obtained my ACA not very long ago when ICAN converted to IFRS. I'm just focusing on the past questions and a photocopy of BPP Practice and Revision kit which I purchased N2,500 per paper beside Ivy League, Yaba. The BPP practice and revision kit is very comprehensive but one is expected to have a fair knowledge of all the IFRS and IAS before exploring this option for the Strategic Business Reporting (SBR) and P7 exam. I also bought Ivy League's lecture note N1,500 per paper but it is not very comprehensive. I'm writing 2 papers in December, SBR and P7.

If you study the past questions rigorously, say 15 diets and understand the principles behind them, you can be sure to . I did this for 2 months when I wrote the ACCA Diploma in IFRS exam and ed well in one siting without attending lectures..

I have friends that ply the online route but I prefer to adopt the fire brigade approach. smiley

I'm also in your shoes. I decided to opt for ACCA option instead due to the following:

1. While Ontario accepts CIMA in the MRA for internationally trained ants into A, Alberta does not.
2. I'm unsure about what A means by "completion of the *full* CIMA programme to be eligible.
3. ACCA's cut-off is 50% compared to CIMA that is 60%.
4. The ACCA option is cost effective as it is about 50% cheaper than the CIMA option.
5. The requirements to obtain the A designation with ACCA is less complex and more straightforward.
6. ACCA is more recognised worldwide than CIMA.

The only Con is that one gets to write 4 papers to obtain the ACCA qualification unlike CIMA that requires candidates to write only 1 paper. But trust me.. that one paper would be loaded!

If you have any objection to the above, please let me know.

Cheers..

Please I want to add...

In order to obtain the CIMA designation, ICAN would be required to pay the sum of N400,000 (to write the Strategic Case study Exam) if they possess a minimum of 5 years post ICAN work experience while those that have below 5 years post ICAN work experience would be required to pay N630,000.

This was why I stated that the ACCA option was approximately 50% cheaper for those that would be required to pay N630,000 in order to obtain the CIMA certificate.

Just to add that there are ACCA centres in other province. Also, there is an option of paying for a special unlisted centre in any city.

I'm in your shoe, even though I have given up on going back into Agriculture. Since you don't have experience in Agric Econs, i will say you may want to consider going back to school as a way of entering that sector. Agriculture is HUGE in Canada and its not something you can enter without having the necessary qualifications/experience.

Phlunter01:
Good day fam, please do we have any Agricultural professionals in the house? I am Agricultural Economist who has been working in the bank for 6 years due to the Nigerian wind, I want to go back to Agricultural Economics and sustainable development. Any insights?
IntellectualMum: 3:25am On Nov 09, 2018
Its been 2 weeks of adventure since we landed. It actually feels longer, because each day has new challenges to be conquered. There have been so many helpful people(angels) God placed in our path. These are some of the things I have experienced and gotten done in the last two weeks.

Transportation
Google Maps is your friend! Power bank (for your phone) is your 2nd friend!!. There are buses and a good subway network, we use google maps to navigate where we are trying to go. Google maps here works slightly differently, it keeps re-routing you especially when you miss a bus or a stop. It comes up with a new "best route" based on traffic situation, and the next available bus. We have gotten lost so many times grin. Sometimes when we get on a bus, after like 2 stops we realize that we should have been going in the other direction grin. Whenever I get on a bus, before dropping my $3:25 I confirm that the driver will be ing through my stop. Also, I will recommend you have a power bank because you don't want your phone to die while you are in transit. This happened to us. Many thanks to fellow immigrants from Cameroon, who allowed us used their phone and waited with us till we were picked up.I guess getting lost is part of the process of becoming familiar with our new environment.

Housing
This one was a tough nut to crack o, as we didn't have most of the requirements(credit score, payslip, job letter e.t.c). We didn't want basement, because its usually more cold than in an apartment. However, getting a basement is cheaper and easier because most times you will be dealing directly with the landlord. This way you can negotiate the requirement. Getting an apartment in an apartment building is dealing with a system. They just tell you what it required, no story. We were blessed to have a family member offer to stand in as a guarantor. This is difficult to ask anyone to do because it means if for any reason you can't pay, they will take the money from the guarantor's shocked. This rental people are gangster. The guarantor has to submit very personal stuffs that some people may not want to share. The guarantor was required to get a letter from their employer(showing salary and how long the person has worked there), credit score, payslip, and property tax form (if they own the home, or a form for their landlord to sign).
We just search on websites like Papper.com,Torontorentals.com and viewit.com. Then call each property you see that matches your specs because sometimes what you see online and what they tell you don't match. We ensure we book multiple viewing for every outing, this way we are able to go through more options. Also, ask you family and friend about a particular area before you settle for it.
We finally signed the lease for an apartment on the 13th day after arrival grin.

Ontario Health Insurance
We couldn't do this immediately we landed because they require 3 pieces of ID. Photo ID(port), Copr, lease ,driving licence or some other things I can't . We had only 2 of those before we signed the lease but after we did, we were able to get this done at service ontario. It was easy peazy.

School
We could not enroll the kids in school without having a proof of address. One school did say that if you are staying with family or friends you can have them draw up a lease that you are staying with them and the duration. However, this will only work if you plan to rent in the same neighborhood. Moving to another neighborhood means starting the process again. We always asked about schools in the area whenever we went viewing apartment. This way you can google and learn more about the schools in the area. We plan to them as as soon as we move in. The schools generally requires Birth certificate, immunization records, baptismal certificate(catholic school), lease(proof of address), and copr ( proof of status)

POF
The money matter in canada is not funny o. Things are wayyyyy more expensive here than in the US, I write it because this hit me hard o. Shopping in the US for me is always fun because the deals are unbelievable but canada is not like that o. Even walmart was not smiling. The hst tax is 13%, meaning whenever you see a price tag just add 13%. I was even looking forward to black friday to help my case, a family member that has been here a long time said to me "it doesn't change much". No Ross, No Burlington, No target, No Jenny and No Macy's o. We purchased winter Jackets from carters for the kids, it cost $130 each cry. winter boots for the kids at $60 (winners). We went to a store called sail and we saw a winter jacket for men at $500 shocked. I don't even want to compare it to shopping in Nigeria because the currency value already makes it expensive. You definitely need the POF,its a must. There is also the Flip side, which is being the one offering the goods or service and receiving the $$$$ (business people alert). I am still in love with Toronto sha.

Job
I haven't started looking yet. Can't wait cheesy.

Child Benefit
Fill Rc66 and Rc66sch form (google and )
submit with copy of copr
The address to submit to is on the forms. choose the one closest to you.
call 18003871193, for more info.

Its been a training in resilience, mental strength, use of will, humility and Faith (not knowing but trusting and believing). I wouldn't change a thing cool.

grin eh not needing to volunteer for cryogenic freezing? isn't that reason enough?

On a more serious note, their pay is higher and if you live in a city like Toronto, the living expenses is just as much as that of Australia's. So for those who are hell bent on staying in expensive Vancouver for what arctic Canada has made us now think is nice weather, why not just go to Aussie? cost about the same to live there and you earn higher than you can in Canada; go surfing on Christmas rather than skiing...Also, from what I have heard, immigrants in my profession, Engineering, seem to have it easier in Australia.

but eh no regrets, I like canada for the way Nigerians are ubiquitous here. lastly, I have already made a cheap holiday plan for the U.S that I wouldn't have been able to do if I were living in that extragalactica country called Australia.
