Yes, completed mine Feb 2018. in Canada.Personally, I found the second one more difficult than the first one but i believe with the proper preparation, you'll be fine. I prepared for the first one in 1month and the second one took me about 3months because of work. I hope this helps

Trump to me is riding on the back of the foundations laid by Obama. The numbers he is achieving took almost 10 years to get. Another factor is that the economy has highs and lows. Obama took over in a period of lows, he resumed on a high.

So in my search for stories written by Nigerians who have moved to Canada, I came across this blog post (Blackmigrantgirl[dot]c-o-m) where the writer shared her experience on moving to Canada from Nigeria and what she has had to go through in settling down. From quitting her luxurious job in Nigeria, to the stress she faced getting a new job in Canada and trying to find a suitable apartment etc. I wish she would post her "application timeline" here as previous PRs have done.

This lady committed something Nigerians are most likely to do here:

A Nigerian lady identified as “Blackmigrantgirl” on twitter took to the microblogging platform to share how she got a ticket for crossing “ordinary railtrack” Read her hilarious ordeal below; The logical side of me understands why I got the ticket but I am still unhappy about it.

Let me explain what happened. I had to travel by bus and by train from the venue of a job interview I attended today, back to the home of my hosts on the other side of town- in Stouffville. My bus arrived the train station with very little time to spare for the departure time of the train to Stouffville. Unfortunately for me, the closest route from the bus terminal to the train platform is now blocked off due to ongoing construction.

I then had to make a dash for it across from the bus to the train station, following the longer route, down the stairs and then up another flight of stairs to the departure platform. Only for me to get to the departure platform to discover that I was on the wrong platform and the train was on the far side of the station.

Adrenalin had already kicked in from all the running and I gave it free rein to cross the train track to get on my train. I didn’t even have enough time to think about the consequences of what I was doing. Of course I got caught ? Next thing I know, a security guard is walking up to me and asking me to step out of the train. Everyone was looking at me like I stole. Chai! My father in heaven oh.

Long story short, to my utter disbelief, th4e security guard wrote me a ticket for 180 Canadian dollars. All my explanation of being late, being new to Canada, not knowing I was violating a bye-law fell on deaf ears. Now I have to call the courthouse tomorrow, to beg for a lesser fine. Honestly, I’m just tired?. I just hope I am hired for the job that brought me downtown today”

Please note that Canadians are finicky about appointments. It is one thing those who come from a culture where there are always excused tend to find difficult - it is not about Nigerians but immigrants are advised to always keep to appointments and what does that mean? Planning. You become used to your calendars, you diarize and do all that. No one is really interested in stories of traffic etc. So, from the lady's story, always plan your movements. Learn how to use Google Map well and other apps as on the day of departure, there could be a detour, congestion or unexpected event. When you want to go to BC, do not input the time as CURRENT TIME on the map, insert the estimated time of arrival inside to save yourself troubles.

For the train, it can be confusing especially on a busy day as a lt of people are just moving like ants but one thing is that those guys are used to the tracks. Canada uses a lot of signs to direct you. On the rail track, the No Crossing sign is there and you see where they write that it can lead to prosecution so don't use Naija sense to create a shortcut. There are cameras almost everywhere that is public and Big Brother is watching

I feel pity about it because we tend to ignore caution or regulatory signs in Nigeria so we get accustomed to taking shortcuts. The cameras are not there for security alone - Canada Revenue Agency will be very happy to have this lady pay the 180 CAD. Imagine paying 50k because you are late.

So basic lesson from this post. Here is the NO CROSSING sign for pedestrians.

To be on the safe side, try Samsung but even at that, Samsung Samsung. I have an experience where some lines would not work on your BYO device. So, be careful to test the sim on your phone at the store. There was a thread on NL on one guy questioning Tecno etc. Some abused him but he had some few truths. Your Tecno may just end up being a toy when you get to Canada

Which province did this happen? This is so wrong. It is always announced before the go train stops at union station that it is a criminal offence and offenders will be prosecuted. It's better to put a call to them that you will be late due to some unforseen circumstances than to cross the railway track. It is best to leave earlier and sometimes you are the one to schedule your interview time so why not choose the time that you are sure to make it. Meanwhile if it is Union, where are you crossing to when you are supposed to go underground to burst into the town. This is real JJC in action. So sorry for your loss. We learn from such experiences.

Even same phones within Canada sometimes have different variants. e.g. an unlocked LG G3 from telus may not work or work erratically on say Rogers network. Also an unlocked LG G3 from Rogers may not work on telus. It's a good idea to always go to the phone shops with a sim card or to investigate what variants of phones would work on one's network.

I was even thinking the incident might have happened in Toronto. In Calgary, one can be issued a ticket for spitting on the floor at a train station or platform.

In Calgary, there are illuminated/with audio pedestrain crossings along c-train tracks in the downtown core, but some people in a hurry try to dash across the tracks. They promply get issued over $150 ticket when caught.

The defeat in Ontario was so bad that they lost their party status. The believe here in the west is that Ontario was a liberal strong hold. Trudeau is still not ready. I am actually suprised he paid over $4Billion for that pipeline considering the fact that he is anti-oilsand
That move was a bad political move in my opinion.

He took a risk which wasn't well planned. The money paid for the pipeline won't stop the prairie from delivering their block vote to the Conservative in the next election. His action has also caused some liberal and green voters to switch allegiance.

The minimum wage hike by Kathleen was a wrong move too. Employers just reduced hours and became more lean with the operations of their business. The hysteria quickly died down.

Anti-carbon/oil.... judging from his past statements and actions. The imposion of carbon taxes and setting tough targets to shut down coal plants. Mining the tar sand or using SAGD is carbon intensive, the tax hurts the energy industry and makes it less attractive to foreign investors. He also mentions that "Alberta needs to phase out the oil sands, but not tomorrow" in a town hall meeting..Although he later said people misunderstood him on the statement.
Anyways, not to turn the thread to Liberal/NDP vs Conservatives. The pipeline is good for Alberta and the rest of Canada. More transfer payment for the have-not provinces too.

Arrived Calgary, Alberta early last month. Just wanted to share my quick settlement story. Weather has been relatively great. Got ed with Immigration centres and have received tremendous help there. Got a 2 bedroom apartment in the NW area for 1,300 which is ok. A friend helped me with securing that and I did not have to make payment for 3 or 6 months in advance. Just a refundable security deposit and first month rent. Like most have mentioned previously here, you will need a vehicle especially in the NW as small grocery shops and stationery stores are not easily accessible by foot. I got tremendous help with my Banking needs from a Nigerian working in a Bank. Free Banking for one year, 2,500 MasterCard limit with option of a Line of Credit etc. He says after the one year I can still transition to another free banking without minimum balance if I want. He even helped to refer me to employers in the Finance Industry and one of them has even called me for interviews already and I only met the guy on an online forum oh. Also, like many have mentioned here previously you have to target your resumes to job postings. What else am I missing in my story? Anyways it has been a great number of days being here with no regrets (except that there is no suya here lol) . Let me know if you have any enquires I may be of help. Well it depends ob several factors like
1. Times it takes u to IELTS
2. How many credentials u intend to evaluate
3. Size of family and maybe other little things

For me, a single person with IELTS done once and no accompanying family, It was in the range of 1.3M to 1.5M including flight ticket and minus POF. It also depends on your plans as well.

Note that the cost of taking the IELTS exams and credentials evaluation changes from time to time as well.


So do some research to find out about latest pricing and other things.
