If nigeria had removed the subsidy, you’re assuming the money would have been used for good

Oil has been sold for $100, Abacha loot recovered, loans taken

Have you seen the impact of all of that money?

I assume nothing.

No matter how we reason the matter, subsidy was not sustainable

You don't have to like that fact. I don't. But here we are.

And it is high time that Nigerians held their leaders able

In western countries When inflation increases by 2%, their salaries increase by 2%.

Im Nigeria inflation incrrase by 500%, political office holders increase their salaries by 114% leaving miserable bastards with nothing but abject poverty
stop assuming.

Oil sold for $140 during the Libyan war. Diezani and all the corrupt people in Jonathan's govt took all the money. All the Abacha loot was shared to state governments. No impact. Ecological fund shared to states, only 6 states have given some kind of on what they used the money for. Paris Club refund was shared to states, and we were hearing all kinds of stories of how one governor's mistress took that money and disappeared.

Loans taken, left right and centre, including the latest $800m which they say is to share to poor households. Who are these people the so-called social , if not thousands of fictitious names? Did former VP ever take up the challenge to defend the list with proof of life or existence of the people in it? Or is it in one state where we heard that non-existent schools were part of the school feeding program?

Naija na real cesspool and no government can change anything.

You are a liar. Nigeria isn't like that that money can just be funneled away just the way you're making it sound. You're a hater of people

Discuss matters objectively

I trade forex for years. Oil was never stable at $140. Even when it sold at $100, how much were you guys paying on subsidy ? Did the nation have any developmental enterprise that could have been expanded ?

Nigeria was founded unpon a foundation of failure. It can't be pinned on just a istration while the others are left out. Please while GEJ could have ameliorated some national projects to correct some of these errors. Please what did Obasanjo, Yard Adua or Buhari do to correct it ?

It's hypocrisy to single out Jonathan

Sis sissy is not the problem
Here in the US we subsidize agriculture
I’m sure you’ve heard of farmers pouring maize into the ocean

The management of the economy is the problem
The price of constructing a KM of road in nigeria is one of the most expensive in the world. Yet the labor is among the lowest paid in the world. There was a reason subsidy was introduced in the first place. So Nigeria’s prboblem is not subsidy but mismanagement

To reduce excess supply and stabilize price
We crush brand new cars here, pour away milk and pay farmers not to farm in some years

It does not matter what other countries do.

First do we earn the same amount in revenue from taxes as the USA does? We don't

Do we run a diversified economy as the US does? No.

Is our agriculture industrialised as the USA is? No.

Does the USA force their petroleum sector to sell at prices below production and transport costs? No.

We can live on the fantasy that we have the US level resources, or we can face the fact that we are broke thanks to years of mismanagement and overreliance on oil, that 40 plus years of subsidies has not improved our economy and that keeping fuel subsidised iswrecking our economy and driving up debt.

I want subsidies, but economies don't run on fantasies.

And no, I don't the APC government and I don't think they can run this economy well, but right now subsidies are not sustainable.

We are not America.

Subsidy had to go , typically when the price per barrel goes down the fuel price should go down. the war of Russia and Ukraine plus OPEC meddling is why it’s high now. But trust Nigerians no mercy for the populace unlike all other countries. If oil price go down it will reflect in petrol stations.

Some Nigerians were making billions from smuggling fuel to other countries

The effect of removal of subsidy should transfer to other sector IF they use the extra funds.

With the small money naija makes some ppl steal with no conscience.

It happened it China were top politicians were executed for public looting.

Until that happens nothing will change in Nigeria.

Whatever your ideas are about me or my motives or my sources of income, and I don't even work for the government or the APC or any party , subsidies are not sustainable right now.

You can change the narrative by writing to your senator and getting him to reinstate subsidies on petrol. And there would be nothing I can do about it.

Again, whatever you think of me, or imagine me to be,subsidies are not sustainable.

And those living abroad, who will reach out to them or you think it's all bed of roses for them?

With all the natural disasters happening around the world daily, how many of our people have reached out to their relatives abroad just to check on them and ask how they are surviving?

All Nigerians do everyday is expect everyone else to pity them when they themselves don't have any atom of empathy for anyone else.

There's suffering everywhere and I advocate that people lend helping hands to each other but don't just single out those living abroad because they themselves are also facing hardship too.

People at home are even better off because they have villages to run to and arable lands to cultivate in the event of extreme hardship unlike people abroad who become homeless so easily.

Thank you for your writeup.
Who do you think those in abroad run to ? I observed we waste alot of time in Nigeria doing nothing. Raining season has started in Nigeria, instead to start small farming at their backyard, they will not. Every body want to be in city (Lagos, PH, Abuja ) by force.

If a Naira is equal to a dollar, most people will run back to Nigeria (Note: Most in abroad doesn't have work Permit but they do send money because of Naira to dollar). It is not easy also in abroad. I only attended church once and others are online because l need to go to work so as to pay bill. But in Nigeria, most will be in church or mosque from morning till evening expecting free money during the week.
Some may feel blablablu on gaming. When l was in ede, Osogbo, l farm. Also in ibadan. I did small farming in last year that carter for my family.

People want a change, but the elite want a change that will keep their loot. They always find a way to rig election to bring in an unpopular unacceptable candidate. In a nutshell it’s not entirely the people's fault, even if they do the needful the powers that be won't allow their voice, choice and vote count. That's the rotten situation and electorate process we have down here.

It’s not entirely the people’s fault that they don’t know how they are the owners of all governments, and that they have to work together and hard to demonstrate their ownership

Please where did I mention Obi in my comment

You are even going too far.

A relative reached out to me the other day for help via WhatsApp saying his family was starving. I called him later on and he was at a bar drinking. I said haa, uncle you still see money to dey drink beer and he responded saying "I'm drinking to forget the too many problems in this country".

I was furious at that point. I respectfully told him, do you know if you had saved money you spent on two bottles of beer, that's dinner money right there.

The thing is that Nigerians hate to make adjustments. Small thing, they start begging for help when all they need is just little adjustment and everything will be fine.

What they don't realize is that their family abroad work round the clock and deny themselves some good things of life just to make extra and send back home whereas they the recipients don't want to deny themselves anything.

They do owambe all the time and still expect you that don't have the liberty to do an owambe to sponsor their own owambe. No be juju be that?
where you dey, come collect one bottle jare, you sabi, every time na shey bi you dey work, send, send, send...
