Sons with mild retardation born to poor parents are usually not taken care of when those kids are young. Children with retardation born to poor parents usually die young. Rich parents tend to take care of their children irrespective of the cognitive levels of the children. Many poor parents see their children as investment items, or lottery items or gambling items. Therefore, many poor parents do not take care of children with cognitive defects. Those type of children from poor parents tend to die young. That is the reason, it seems many rich parents have children with mild retardation. 1 Like |

Maryam Babangida was the most famous first Lady. It was rumored that Mrs Folorosunso Alakija got oil block because of her. It was also rumored that IBB gave an oil block to her doctor (physician). There was a project by her -Better Life for Rural Women- which was very popular during IBB regime. It was rumored that Asaba was made the capital of Delta State because of her. Maryam Babangida was the most famous and most flamboyant among the wives of former Nigeria past leaders. I think, Nigerians started using First Lady during IBB regime.

DeLaRue: Then, Dangote should stop running to the government or CBN for assistance. The more functional refineries in Nigeria, the better. I believe Nigeria government refurbishing its refineries is waste of time and waste of money. The refurbishment are opportunities to embezzle money. |

Nigeria refineries in Warri, Port Harcourt and Kaduna were supplying Nigeria refined petroleum needs until the fallout of June 12, 1993 crisis.. Nigeria has never depended on just one refinery. The issue is that around the June 12, 1993 crisis some Nigerians discovered they could make lots of money by importing refined petroleum products. Since the June 12, 1993 crisis, Nigeria refineries have not been working optimally due to the corruption practices in that sector. Now, refined petroleum products are being imported into Nigeria. However, the refined petroleum products are not just from one refinery. |

In my own view, Dangote should have embarked on about 100,000 to about 300,000 bpd refinery. The total consumption by Nigeria of petroleum products is about 500,000 bpd. Dangote refinery is about 650,000 bpd Petroleum Refinery. Dangote mentioned in the past that when his refinery is ready, the refinery would be able to supply all Nigeria needs and he can also export o other African countries. In my own view, this a very bad idea. It is not a good for a country such as Nigeria with over 200 million people to depend solely on one refinery. What if the refinery is damaged? What of the case when the refinery is shut down for maintenance? Of all the countries, with more than 200 million people, there is no such country that depends on just 1 refinery. If Dangote has embarked on a smaller capacity refinery, such smaller capacity would have been producing refined petroleum products by now 1 Like |

Dangote really bite more than he could chew. He is also a very greedy person. It does not makes sense to embark on a 650,00 bpd with companies that have no track record of constructing a 650,000 bpd refinery. Dangote simply wants to monopolize the downstream sector of the petroleum industry. It would have been better for him to embark on a refinery with about 100,000 bpd for a start. A refinery of about 100,000 bpd would have been working long time ago. 1 Like |

Childofgrace18: I am not only in the USA. I am also a United States Citizen. I do not need a VISA to visit many countries. Your comment shows that you have never lived in a developed country for an extended period of time. I have lived about 70% of my adult life (about 20 years) in developed countries. There are many of my friends who live in Nigeria and only come to visit USA and other countries. Many of my friends that live in Nigeria are financially better than me. There are homeless and poor people in USA and UK. I am not financially poor in any way. With the exchange rate of US Dollar to Naira, I am a billionaire in Naira. You need less than US$1 Million Dollar to become a billionaire in Naira. There are many Nigerians outside the country who are billionaires in Naira. Some of these Nigerians see themselves as Middle Class in the countries they live. Some houses in Nigeria cost more than 1 billion Naira. I see no reason to brag on social media. In my visit to the UK about 20 year ago, I was a given a student VISA of 12 months or, 15 months or 18 months for an M.Sc program. I cannot the exact duration. That was why I was surprised to see 3 months on my sibling VISA/COS. I have searched on the internet and I could see UK D Skilled VISA Migrant with duration of 3 months. I have visited different countries. I was never given a VISA less than 6 months even on a tourist or business visa. That was the reason I was surprised about the 3 months COS/VISA on my brother port. The links below show that people also struggle financially in the United States. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2024/03/i-became-a-cab-driver-to-feed-my-family-in-us-actor-femi-brainard/ https://www.vanguardngr.com/2023/08/failed-movie-gigs-turned-me-to-cab-driver-in-u-s-nollywood-actor-joseph-benjamin/ 6 Likes |

The VISA shows D SKILLED WORKER MIGRANT. Is one-way ticket OK?
|

I saw SKILLED worker MIGRANT in the VISA he sent to me. The VISA seems genuine. He applied by himself at the UK embassy. He did not use any Agency because of fear of 419 or scam . Migrant means he has permanent stay. That is my understanding. I am currently in the USA. My understanding is that he needs to use the COS within 3 months.

Hello Good Nairalanders, I am planning to buy a ticket for one of my siblings to start a healthcare job in the UK. I am currently not in Nigeria. A copy of the VISA he showed me showed a COS with duration of 3 months on the VISA. Can I buy a one-way ticket for my sibling or should it be a return ticket? Thanks. |

wowcatty, wowcatty:How do I destroy Naira by sending Dollars to Nigeria? What is selfishness in making sure my beneficiaries receive the Dollars that I send to them? Why should the Government or whosoever be getting part of my money that i send home? Why should I be responsible for the ineptitude of the Nigerian Government? Have you ever asked yourself the honest question of the reason a country of more than 200 million people does not have a working and functioning refinery that can refine at least 100,000 barrels per day? I was in that same Nigeria when population was less than 100 million people, and there were functioning and major refineries located in Kaduna, Warri and Port Harcourt. It is stupid and wicked to me that the Federal Government will take part of my remittances home. Many of these top government officials and their families have millions of dollars whether legally or illegally acquired. You mentioned that Nigeria no longer has foreign reserves. I can assure you that ill gotten wealth taken out of Nigeria is more than the remittances Nigeria Diasporans send home. Think about Abacha's loots. Think also about other loots. 1 Like |

President Tinubu and CBN Governor, Please Leave Diasporans' Remittances Alone!!!! I suspect President Tinubu in connivance with the CBN Governor may want to force Diasporans’ remittances to be received in Naira. This is a wicked idea. Buhari istration mandated remittances to be received in Naira in the early stage of its first term,, but the istration later reversed the decision. Diasporans worked hard for their money that they send to their family or friends in Nigeria. Diasporans are not responsible for the free fall of the Naira. Rich Nigerians and their family , whether through legal or illegal means are the people that take the hard-earned Dollars and other foreign currencies in Nigeria to buy multiple million dollars properties abroad. They are the ones that stash the funds in multiple foreign s. If you blame Nigerians that they import too much stuff, why can’t the Federal government ensures 24 hour electricity supply, good roads, and good infrastructures. This will enable Nigeria to produce some of the stuff it imports. President Tinubu, and CBN Governor, please leave Diasporans’ remittances alone!!!!!!!. |
