@Police001 Been out of town for a bit, could you please tell us exactly what happened? and to who? We really need the details - that way we can work something out immediately. |

True, one only needs to drive one to see that it really is on a whole new level

baconline: Im not a car dealer. You can see the advert by Dammiedex up there. Its an agent like himself I go with to get my ride IF Im buying from Kotonou. |

George_D:George dont make a biggie out of this. Its not a Korean thing; Indie22 already cleared the air that its specifically the Rio ordered by Dana that dont come with those airbags. You might be interested in these though: https://nairaland.macsoftware.info/nigeria/topic-437708.0.html#msg5962456 |

baconline:I have bought cars from Kotonou and all I do is to give the receipt from the dealer to the official that handle my vehicle documents (including tinted permits) and its taken care of within a week with the Autoreg and all. I cant even argue with anyone about this because its what I know and have. Also I met a customs team on one of my trips to Ibadan and he explained to me that lots of people arrange customs papers even for cars coming in through Lagos ports without it being ed with them and that they do sieze such vehicles. So my advise again is that once a car is in Nigeria - even if its a 1935 model, let the right officials take of these things for you - and IF thats not good enough for you, then its your business. This is Nigeria, its a very practical country and these things work the way they do. |

@Yodiyokun You have your views on the Toyota "Problems" BUT the thought of comparing a Ford SUV to a Toyota SUV makes me wonder where exactly to start - There is simply no comparism Toyota is way better designed, re-inforced, engine lasts longer . . . It really has to be your view. |

Thats not true. Ask perfectbuyer - he s cars from Kotonou and he specifies clearing costs. Thats not smuggling. |

George_D: Ive been to Kotonou three times to buy vehicles and slept in Igholo on one of the occassions. There are two routes in bringing in a vehicle; the night haul (which is what you call driving through the "bush" ![]() The point is that its normal to drive through the bush; its some dealers that refuse to go through the right means in bringing the car into the country - Same way some crooked agents can get a car out of the warf for you and it will still be impounded by the customs (I know that for a fact) |

@George_D I guess we see things differently on the Toyota issue. But overall, safety is very key and the best is for intending buyers and current s of automobiles to learn more about what they drive and what they intend buying. |

DaudaAbu: I dont know where your friend got that info. from. Once the vehicle is in Nigeria, have the right people take care of the vehicle registration for you and you are good. The only time you will have problems is IF you drive it around before registration (with fake plates or "dealer" plates) |
![]() |
@Fhemmmy You know what it is ![]() |
![]() |
@Elitper Its simple; buy the car, walk into any Road Safety (FRSC) office and talk to someone there - they will ask for the dealer's receipt (even if you bought it from Kotonou, the dealer must have given you a receipt); then they will take care of the rest. Like I posted earlier, the custom guys will take advantage of you IF the person who handled the papers did not those custom papers with them ( = settled). Go through the officials, that makes it easier. There is a particular stamp on the custom papers - that comes from the "registration". |

@Poster Basically, those parts will be cheaper out there BUT importing them will probably cost more than the parts themselves (Considering the dashboard, etc). My advise to you is to go with your mechanic to Ladipo - there is a whole line for Mitsubishi parts where you can pick your choice. You can also go to Owode Onirin - where you can remove the required part from an accident or a for-sale '95 Lancer. |

Nice one! Enjoy your ride. (Chief_D)

@George_D A lot of economies are very desperate (majorly the US) and IF you watch or see the online advert for Chevy Malibu, you will see clearly that they were condeming the 2010 Toyota Camry (even with the picture and everything) - So disgusting, these tells me how desperate and low that country and its economy is, it also shows how far they can go in every aspect. Toyota is a giant and one of the best everyday/utility vehicle manufacturers - A garage is basically not complete without one. I didnt know my ID had been resolved for a while now until I checked today. I stopped using Chief_D over a year ago because one "Pastor" something kept blasting me with emails about his "money making scheme" |

Very hot ride!, nice finishing and alloys. Looks like that guy in the drivers' seat has a lot on his mind ![]() |

Ladipo is your best bet for those items. Go with the one you are removing from your vehicle and your re-wire/Mechanic.

Im thinking of buying one myself. It drives like an airplane. Forget that recall thing - I already told you that Toyota USA is not even 70% owned by Toyota Japan. Most of the companies and people in the middle east ALL use Landcruisers and customised ones too (I know that for a fact because I have partners there and been there a lot). It never affected their orders for the vehicle and they dont even have the time to listen to the crap the US people are feeding people with, just to make them lose confidence in the No. 1 choice of everyday SUV for corporate and field workers. Even the UN refuse to shift to Ford - still Toyota. |

@George_D Different cars have their different problems. If he likes his car, then let him deal with its problems. Some other folks have that model and aint complaining because they have not encountered that problem with it. Same way some folks have your "ideal" vehicle and would label it the Ultimate lemon. |

@George_D I understand your point. That would be Toyota USA. I see those vehicles everyday in Lagos and I know two people that own the 2010 GX and they dont even know what that means. If you watched the video the Toyota had to release to counter that claim you will find out there is absolutely wrong with that vehicle. Im only happy to know that people outside the US are looking at the issue with enough caution and are on their own standing by their own views. I for one understand that its just a conspiracy against Toyota. By the way, Toyota USA is not 100% owned by Toyota Japan - which is a very big mistake on the part of the Japanese manufacturer. Well, its good to know that most owners dont even know or see any practicality in the tricks that Failed Ford and its cousins are playing to impose their brands. Its my opinion and what I understand. |

@Iranoladun There are other manufacturers involved in the same business strategy. The Kia situation was brought to our notice by Aare - a very good move. If you watch closely, you will find out that Kia has competitors in the corporate auto supply market - brands like Hyundai and Toyota (especially with the tagged Corolla). Just like enzo01 rightly said; those options and models are manufactured and supplied based on the demand from our local consumers and their suppliers. With a forum like this one, I believe that the awareness to dump such models will rise and the procurement of such for public services might even be made a criminal offence, then you will have the same manufacturers with proper notices and dialogue within their association (Im assuming they have a manufacturers' union here) stop the shipment of such unsafe models. |
