By our reporter In the complex landscape of Nigeria’s educational system, where challenges often loom large, Anambra State stands out as a leading light of hope and excellence, shining its brilliance on the path of countless young minds. At the helm of this transformative journey is the State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, whose vivid vision and sterling commitment to education has heralded a new era of enlightenment and opportunity. It is a new, bright dawn that keeps unraveling. Anambra’s ascent from the shadows of educational disparity to the pinnacle of excellence is not a tale of accident, but a narrative scripted with deliberate and intentional reforms with visionary leadership. The recent revelation by TheCableIndex, showcasing Anambra’s remarkable feat of recording the lowest out-of-school children (aged 6–15) score of 2.9% across Nigerian states with scores as high as 67.6%, reflects the impact of the efficacy of Governor Soludo’s policies and reforms. Central to this feat is the abolition of barriers to education through the commencement of a Free Education policy by Governor Soludo, a bold stroke that struck at the heart of financial impediments hindering access to learning. From early childhood care to the corridors of junior secondary schools, the spectre of hidden fees and levies has been banished, ensuring that every child, regardless of socio-economic background, can embark on the journey of knowledge without shackles. But Governor Soludo’s vision extends far beyond mere accessibility; it encomes a holistic revitalisation of the educational ecosystem. Secondary education, once a steep dream for many, has been brought within reach through a thoughtful reduction in fees, slashed by a staggering 98% to a nominal sum of N5,000 for Senior Secondary Schools while from primary to Junior secondary school remain totally free This shift not only paves the way for a brighter future but also underscores the state’s salient commitment to nurturing talent and potential. Crucially, the bedrock of any educational renaissance lies in the calibre of its teachers. Recognising this, Governor Soludo has since orchestrated an unprecedented recruitment drive, once enlisting 5,000 qualified teachers of impeccable merit to fortify the ranks of education’s vanguard. This infusion of talent elevates the standard of teaching as well as instills a renewed sense of purpose and dedication among the educational circle. Yet, the winds of change blowing through Anambra’s educational landscape are not confined to the conventional realm. Embracing the digital age with open arms, technology has been seamlessly integrated into the learning experience, transforming classrooms into vibrant hubs of innovation and engagement. Dilapidated schools, once symbols of neglect, are being reborn as modern sanctuaries of learning, fostering an environment conducive to the cultivation of knowledge and creativity. Moreover, Governor Soludo’s vision extends beyond the confines of the classroom, encoming a comprehensive overhaul of the educational paradigm. A renewed focus on professional development seeks to restore pride and excellence to the teaching profession, while a revamped curriculum ensures that students are equipped with the skills and knowledge requisite for the challenges of the digital era. At the heart of all this transformation lies a commitment to ability and community empowerment. Through the establishment of Public-Community-Private Partnerships (PP) by Governor Soludo, Anambra communities are empowered to actively participate in school management, fostering a sense of ownership and stewardship. Meanwhile, a competitive remuneration structure also ensures that teaching emerges not merely as a vocation but as a window of opportunity, attracting the best and brightest to its fold. Thus, in the evolving Nigeria’s educational narrative, Governor Charles Soludo’s stewardship of Anambra State is proving to be a benchmark in the transformative power of visionary leadership. Through his tireless dedication to education, he has not only kindled the flames of learning but has also ignited the sparks of excellence in the state. As Anambra charts its course towards a future brimming with promise and possibility, it does so with the indelible imprint of Governor Soludo’s legacy guiding its path! Governor Soludo stated this during the commissioning of the road where of the various communities he visited who are connected to the long stretch of roads thronged the venues of the brief ceremonies in their numbers. They all dance in excitement to receive the Governor's entourage. The Governor explained that building "One Anambra" is the agenda, irrespective of social stratification, political party affiliation or religious inclination, pointing out that APGA's major concern is to lift everyone out of poverty in tandem with its mantra of "be your brother's keeper". According to the Governor, the late Mr. Joe Anatune who hailed from Awa was the first person that hinted about the strategic importance of the road, recalled that he promised to construct the road during Mr. Anatune's funeral ceremony, emphasizing that completing the road is in fulfillment of the promise he made in his memory. Governor Soludo stressed that after assumption of office, his government did not start work from the areas that voted highly for him, but from local government areas where he narrowly lost, where there is greatest need. He reminded them during campaign, their major request was for his government to construct the road, adding that the commissioning calls for celebration. BY BONIFACE Okeke The media attack against the House of Representatives Labour Party caucus, by the yet to be confirmed Publicity Secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh, has been described as tactless, unprofessional, devoid of emotional intelligence and unbecoming of a party official who is still on an acting capacity. This was contained in a statement by Mr. Edward Dibiana, Media Adviser to the House of Reps Labour Party caucus Leader, Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, in Abuja, on Tuesday, in response to the earlier statement by Ifoh. The LP Caucus in the House of Representatives had on Sunday called on the party's national leadership to postpone the proposed national convention of the Party, which was scheduled for month end, in order to allow room for wider consultations and proper planning, given the internal bickering among the leadership and the fact that many stakeholders, including the lawmakers, were not carried along in the processes leading to the choice of date and venue for the convention. However, rather than respond to the call for further consultations and proper planning raised by Hon. Ogene, Ifoh, strangely went on a disgraceful tirade, accusing the caucus Leader of lying to the public that the caucus was not informed about the contentious convention and "Rushing to the press to misinform" of the party. He also referred to the lawmaker as "Unknowledgeable as it relates to the constitution of the party under which he was elected." According to Dibiana, Ifoh has by this "Unprofessional, tasteless and infantile outburst - which is fast becoming his trademark - failed to represent LP in a manner that s a capacity, strategic thinking and emotional intelligence disposition that the position of a party's spokesman demands." He said further that, "The job of a party spokesman, like that of every other public communications expert, is not only to issue press statements, but essentially, to help promote the image and integrity of the party, through application of sense of propriety in conduct and delivery of information of public interest, in a manner that would attract and goodwill for the party across party lines and beyond, rather than embarrass the party at every turn by making a joke of the responsibility of a publicity secretary and creating more problems for the people you serve, by always playing to the gallery, in the name of "I was directed." "Ifoh claimed that the caucus was informed about the convention, but it would be good for him to such allegation with any official document, communicating same to the lawmakers. A side gossip and official communication are never the same. "It is also very insensitive and disappointing for Ifoh, who was only hurriedly brought in to fill in a gap in an acting capacity to dismiss the call for "proper planning and wider consultations", by the Labour Reps as "a mischief taken too far." "One of the distinguishing factors between a trained, ready and independent mind and someone who refuses to rise to the occasion even when opportunity comes on a platter, is public conduct. If, for the sake of argument, one is to believe the argument that Ifoh was 'directed' to issue such infantile statement by his masters, civility and candour requires that he ought to go on such ill-advised errand with the decorum and tact of a professional. "Ifoh, perhaps, would understand the intrigues and politics of beat reporting, than the finesse of public communication and would most certainly not understand Hon. Ogene's "kind of politics,". "For instance, as Leader of the Labour Caucus in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ogene needs to balance the strategic interests of his constituents, his colleagues in the House and other Stakeholders, whilst Ifoh only owes responsibility to his paymasters, for whom he solely functions as an destructive agent against the party and its stakeholders, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), who he also attacked recently. "Was it not the same Ogene who galvanized the caucus in of Barrister Julius Abure, when he was arrested and dehumanised like ordinary criminal last month? "For starters, Ifoh cannot possibly address himself as National Publicity Secretary, having not been elected to any such office. Or has he procured a back door confirmation of the position that he now addresses himself as a substantive National Publicity Secretary? "Who would even take the Labour Party seriously when less than two weeks to the unilaterally fixed convention, no planning committee has been emled, no delegates have been named, and know one knows who is running for what office, and worse of all, party remain in the dark? Yet Ifoh and his enablers are fixated only on those they feel are not respecting Abure. Enough of this charade." |

Stakeholders from Urum, Awka North LGA, Anambra State, Tuesday, implored governor Chukwuma Soludo to stop the Commisioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affiars, Hon TonyCollins Nwabunnwanne from allegedly intimidating them. The stakeholders, arising from an emergency meeting, following cancellation of their successfully held town union poll held on 30th December 2023 and plan by Nwabunwanne who has also announced 30th of March, 2024 to conduct fresh elections for the community. They viewed the commissioner's new move as insult and act of intimidation and urged the Governor to rather set up an independent election review committee to consider the cancelled election as that would bring peace, as well as prevent the crisis that could ignite unimaginable crisis in the community. The Stakeholders spoke through Chief Ignatius Nnaemeka, Chairman, Urum in Diaspora and Chief Matthew Nwodo, Chairman Urum Concerned Citizens as well as Chief Ozo Loius Umegbolu, Chairman Urum Elders Forum. The Urum community Stakeholders insisted that the best option for Urum Community now is for a government review Committee answerable to the Governor to first understand the position of things, then brief the Governor before future directives. According to them, the committee shall be independent of the commisioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affiars, Hon Nwabunnwanne because he has been compromised on the matter. The Stakeholders believed that though they have all the evidence requested by Commissioner Nwabunnwanne, it will be inimical to the peace they wished in their community to start throwing evidence around since they trusted Governor Soludo shall set up a committee to investigate the Urum imbrogilo. They insisted that since the commissioner came out to deny what he had earlier said that Governor Charles Soludo did not have hands in the election crises that erupted during and after the election, it won't be reasonable to push that line further but to call on Governor Soludo to set an unbiased committee to get all parties report of the election. The Stakeholders warned Nwabunnwanne to stop mobilizing Urum People to speak in favour of his planned elections as if the community is divided, but to do the needful as an uncompromised umpire. "This our position is because Urum as a community will not like to exchange words with our amiable Governor in public rather we are calling on Soludo to weld into the case by setting up an independent committee to investigate all that transpired during and after the election and be convinced that we are justified by our demands". According to the Urum Stakeholders: " We are shocked that the Governor was not aware of what happened in Urum and the claims by Commissioner Nwabunnwanne which led to cancellation of our election 3 months after. The Commissioner claimed that Governor Soludo cancelled the election only to recant that Governor Soludo wasn't aware. " We are therefore calling on our capacity Governor to set up a commission of inquiry where every evidence we have will be submitted because TonyCollins, the commisioner, was compromised. We don't see the possibility of getting Justice from him. "We are calling on the Governor to set up committee of inquiry for Urum because if Urum community is in crises, Anambra State will also be in crises, no matter how small the community is, it should not be allowed even if from government agent. The Stakeholders informed Governor Soludo that his Commissioner has failed in his duty of maintaining peace in Urum Community. They restated their readiness to submit all the documents required because all the documents are in their disposal, noting that because Soludo's government is a responsible Government, the community will not bring some private documents to the public. Urum Stakeholders wondered why Commissioner Nwabunnwanne after receiving reports from a committee he sent to monitor the election immediately after the election, did not cancel the election until 3 months after. They insisted a winner was announced before the looser started fermenting crisis. The Stakeholders queried the power the Commissioner has to cancel a community"s election after almost 3 months. They challenged Tonycollins to provide the law that empowered him to cancel the election. They explained further: "Who gave him the power? The law states that when a town wants to conduct an election, the town will come up with electoral committee, notify the government to supervise the election. The law did not ask the government to come and conduct election. The ministry does not come to conduct election but to supervise. "You can only write what you saw and when there are issues you call parties to mediate, you don't go out later to cancel the election without informing both parties your findings and reasons. So, that announcement for a fresh election in Urum was a premeditated and compromised stance on the part of Commissioner TonyCollins Nwabunnwanne which is ill intended. That announcement is capable of destroying the peace in the community. The Stakeholders described his several lies in his press statement and mobilizing of some Urum sons to speak in his favour as childish and uncalled for as all his efforts were targeted at engineering crisis in Urum. The community denied ever getting directives from the government or Commissioner Tonycollins to discuss the election outcome but a directive for the winner of the election with Stakeholders to go and beg the loser before he can issue certificate of recognition which he had written to the winner. They wondered why an election with DSS report, Police report, report of the team Commissioner Tonycollins sent to monitor and other reports were submitted to a government agent and powerful Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs since December 30th, 2023, yet he has not deemed it fit to interrogate all those who participated in the election and initiate measures to punish those who perpetuated violence after the election against a peace accord signed, only to cancel the election, in the comfort of his office. "We have seen that the Commissioner is compromised. The winner of the election's house was partially destroyed. The AVG chairman’s house destroyed and looted and some people were injured. What did the commissioner do to those that caused the crisis after announcement? The only thing he came out to do is to say that they will cancel the election". 'To us, we see it as deliberate action to cause crisis in Urum community and we don't want it, because, all these contestants are brothers. If he feels as an external person he can come and cause crises in Urum , It will not work and he cannot make us to hate each other. "Governor Soludo can call on DSS and police for their reports on the election. The Governor can also call on those that came from the ministry even if they will lie to His Excellency, We have evidence". "We conducted our election based on our constitution and mind you, every community has it's constitution. There is no uniformity of constitutions for communities in Anambra State". "As he continues to peddle lies against our community, mind you that there is no place in our constitution where electing those in small position comes first . We have been conducting elections over the years. What we do and announce to everybody is the positions that were unopposed which would be written and submitted and that was announced by returning officer and there was only two positions that were under contest. The Constitution is what guides us and he will not cancel Urum election just like that after 3 months and fix Match 30th as new date for election neglecting the position of Urum town union stand on dates of election. The Commissioner only invited Urum Community on February 29,2024 but because of exco meeting they had with Mr. Governor that day, it was moved to 1st day of March 2024. In that meeting he told us in the presence of everybody including Chinedu to beg Chinedu so that he will release certificate of recognition ro the winner. While saying all that, Chinedu started agitating and he advised us to go and beg him, that it was better to beg Chinedu than to have the election canceled. "For the past two months after the election, Commissioner Nwabunwan never called us, instead we were the ones prevailing on him, they concluded. "Anyone saying the election was conducted twice was not speaking the truth. The election was not conducted twice. It was counting that was disrupted and continued, after which results were announced", they concluded. |

Anambra State government has said that it would punish the officers of SASA involved in a trending video where one Wilfred Ezike also known as Mgbiligba was been manhandled. The State Commissioner for Homeland Affairs, Mr Chikodi Anarah, who disclosed this in a statement, said he felt bad over the incident. His statements read: "I have been alerted to a viral video on the arrest and manhandling of one Wilfred Ezike, also known as Mgbiligba by SASA operatives. I really feel bad that an incident of that nature took place. I have felt bad all through the day since somebody posted the video to me. "It is true that some people are unrepentantly committed to various criminalities on the basis of which innocent citizens remain in miserable conditions running their legitimate day to day life, but we must handle human beings according to prescriptions of the law, no matter their offence. Our Government is law abiding, and that is why we must fish out the SASA operatives involved in the incident under reference and punish them accordingly. "It is also true that we are resolute to stamp out "agberos," but that must happen within confines of the laws of the land. Interestingly, people have been commenting and reacting. This shows life in an organised democracy. Some of them allege various levels of atrocities committed by Wilfred Ezike for which he ought to have been more severely manhandled and brought to book while counter narratives insist that he should not be manhandled at all. For me, and the Government of Anambra State, nothing justifies brutality, and that is why we will punish the erring operatives. "According to records published in various platforms, Wilfred Ezike had been in and out of prison custody for alleged murder of innocent people while "with his boys, extorting money from them. He is said to be a major kingpin of toutism in whose hands people have gone through hell. "We were informed that there was widespread jubilation among Onitsha traders and 'keke' operators when they heard about his arrest. They alleged that he was dreaded, but that (if true) does not imply that SASA should not follow the law in dealing with him. "Other comments are that SASA operatives may have been enraged because, according to them, he wrote a petition against them falsely alleging that they killed somebody along Niger Street, Onitsha. SASA was further quoted as saying that he did that to commence his effort to cripple its job so as to continue his unholly business. Police investigation is said to SASA's position that the petition was unfounded. "General comments have also expressed opinions that Wilfred had been prominent in fighting previous istrations to a standstill in their effort to curb the State of touts and their activities." |

By Okechukwu Onuegbu Awka The member representing Awka South 1 constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly, Comrade Nigeria Henry Mbachu, Friday, said the reasons behind the move by all the Labour Party (LP) caucus in the house to donate their six months to masses amidst the economic hardships in the country was not politically motivated. Mbachu was among the 8 caucus of the LP that in an address by their spokesman, Hon. Jude Ifeanyi Umennajiego said on Thursday that their salaries would be donated to the masses. Others of the caucus were Hon. Nkechi Ogbuefi, Comrade Nigeria Henry Mbachu, Hon. Jude Umennajiego, Hon. Fred Ezenwa, Hon. Kingsley Udemezue, Hon. Justice Azuka, Hon. Paul Obu and Hon. Patrick Okafor. According to Mbachu, it was rather caused by the fact that their party ideology centres on welfare of the masses and the believe that there is no need of blowing grammar and making bogus policies and data when the masses are dying of hunger and insecurity. “Every reasonable and responsible government must first secure lives before talking about infrastructure because someone must be alive and secured before any other thing else. “Our party’s ideology is for the welfare of the masses. Regrettably, that sole ideology has been tampered with. There’s hunger in the land. When people call us, they make several demands which are genuine. “Yet, we’re here blowing grammar and making bogus policies and data when the masses are dying of hunger; insecurity everywhere. That’s what we want government to focus on. “This is not politics, we’re since done with elections. Besides, hunger doesn’t know which party you belong to. Everyone is affected. I’m sure other colleagues are also planning on what to do. “We want government to focus on food and insecurity within the next six months and we continue other sectors. We’re committing our six months salaries to food and medicare.” On the modalities the salaries would be disbursed, Mbachu said the decision would be taken in due course. |

BY BONIFACE Okeke More chilling revelations of serial criminal escapades of a suspected car-snatching and armed-robbery kingpin arrested by the men of the Anambra state police command, about a month ago, one Felix Ndubuisi Ekunie have emerged. A national daily had earlier reported the arrest of Ekunie by an anti-crime squad of the Anambra state command about a month ago for allegedly snatching about three exotic vehicles from their unsuspecting owners. A source close to the police circle stated that after the media eport which exposed Ekunie as a hard-core criminal suspect who had been linked to several criminal operations including snatching of exotic cars, armed robbery that had claimed many lives, but, had never been made to face the law because he would always purchase his freedom from the police station each time he was arrested, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra state, Aderemi Adeoye has given order that this time around Ekunie must be made to face the full weight of the law for his alleged criminal action. It was gathered that as a result of Adeoye's order a proper charge that would make him face the full weight of the law in the Court was being preferred against him, while arrangements are being perfected to arraign him in Court at the Ogidi division of the state High Court. A source at the state criminal investigation department, SCID, Awka revealed that Ekunie has been on the run since early 2013 after he was linked to the discovery of nine AK-47 rifles illegally concealed in a Geepee water tank in a building close to his house in his Ndam village, Nnobi community, Idemili-South LGA, until he was eventual arrested on February 28, 2024. It was gathered that Ekunie who was arrested by a team of the state police command anti-crime squad while performing the rituals of "Ozo" traditional title-taking which is the first step for him become an "Iche" so as to qualify to emerge a traditional ruler of the community any time had allegedly been involved in about 13 chilling criminal operations since 2009. It was gathered that in 2009, police operatives had tracked a stolen car to a bungalow located near his family compound, during which operation six stolen cars and nine AK 47 military rifles, concealed in a water tank were also recovered. Investigation later implicated Ekunie as the actual person who stole and parked the cars, and, as well, the owner of the nine Ak-47 military guns found in the compound. He was consequently arrested by the police but was later let off the hook after allegedly settling the police. Again, Ekunie was linked to the criminal gang who in 2015 ambush three people in a Toyota Highlander Jeep while they were returning from a traditional marriage ceremony at Ora-Ifite area of the state, killed two of the occupant#, and, inflicted severe bullet wounds on the third person. The assailants were later discovered to have been led by Ekunie's immediate younger brother Ikechukwu Ekunie. Six expensive cars were also later recovered from that this Ekunie's younger brother's house at Onitsha by the police anti-crime team who were operatives of the now defunct Awkuzu SARS led by the then SARS commander, CSP James Oshin Nwafor. It was gathered that Ekunie was arrested butbwas freed after compromising police officers from the SARS Awkuzu, and, the state police command even after police had raided his house and packed those suspected stolen vehicles to the SARS headquarters at Awkuzu. All the recovered vehicles according to a source later disappeared from where they were packed at Awkuzu SARS. However, Ekunie's younger brother, Ikechukwu was later killed during an exchange of gunfire between SARS operatives and criminals at neighbouring Obosi town in Idemili -North LGA. Also in December 2015, an Onitsha-based man was robbed of his Toyota Corolla at gunpoint in front of his house at Adazi-Enu, Aniocha local government, Anambra State. Operatives of the DSS in Anambra state had tracked the vehicle, recovered it, and arrested the robbers, who pointed at Felix Ekunie (popularly called "Ikpo-kirikpo" (meaning someone beyond destruction) as their sponsor. The DSS team arrested Ekunie and handed him to state CID in January and 2016. Sources said that Ekunie later bought another car for the owner and also settled the police and was released and was never charged to court. Sometime in December 2016, a Young Shall Grow Transport bus, a Toyota Hummer bus, was robbed at Awkunano area of Enugu state. Through tracking, police from Enugu in conjunction with Nnewi SARS and Nnobi Police station in Anambra state later recovered the bus allegedly from Felix Ekunie's compound at his Ndam, Nnobi home in January 2017. All efforts to arrest Felix Ekunie failed. Police later did not arrest him and charge him to Court in connection with the crime. A certain young man, commercial tricycle rider, Mr. Onyeka Amakeze, whose house was said to be located opposite Felix Ekunie's compound at Nnobi, a source said was accused by Felix Ekunie of being the informant that led police to recover the Young Shall Grow Transport bus. The source revealed that Amakeze was later in June 2017, kidnapped from his house at Nnobi and has not been seen since then. It was, however , gathered that it was a police officer at Nnobi police station that told Mr. Ekunie that it was Amakeze who giving information to the police about his criminal activities. In 2019, one Barrister Okonkwo (Eno's son) was robbed of his brand new Toyota Highlander, at gunpoint near his house at Ifite-Nnobi. Suspects were eventually arrested. They confessed the car was taken to Abuja, and they implicated Mr. Felix Ndubisi Ekunie as their sponsor. Anambra State Police invited Ekunie and he refused to honor the invitation. He was rather alleged to havel settled the police to stop looking for him, and, was never arrested over the incident. In 2020, a motor mechanic was testing a Toyota Camry Spider car belonging to the then commander of Awkuzu SARS, CSP Patrick Agbazue, and a gang of hoodlums robbed him the car at gunpoint at Nnobi-Ideani Road. Through tracking, the car was recovered at a car sales shop in Abuja, on a different color. Suspects were arrested and they pointed at Felix Ekunie as the person who told them to take the car to the car sales stand in Abuja. CSP Agbazue arrested Mr. Ekunie and detained him for two months. It was gathered that a former commissioner of police in Anambra state,Mr. Echeng Echeng at the time was Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of CID at Zone 13 Police Command Ukpo and that he was the one who allegedly rescued Akunie from being prosecuted over the snatching of CSP Patrick Agbazue's car, by getting Agbazue not to prosecute him over the crime. In 2020, a notorious car snatcher called Mayor from Nanka and his gang were arresterd and about 15 expensive cars and luxury jeeps were recovered from them by SARS Awka Unit and transferred to SARS headquarters Awkuzu headed by CSP Patrick Agbazue. Those arrested in connection with the crime named Felix Ekunie as their sponsor. It was gathered that CSP Agbazue later disposed of all the expensive luxury cars and eliminated all the arrested suspects. CSP Agbazue was said to have arrested Felix Ekunie, but, that the D CID Zone 13, Ukpo, D Echeng Echeng sent a signal to CSP Patrick Agbazue to transfer the case of Felix Ekunie to the zone CSP Agbazue was said to have after reviewing the transfer request by D Echeng Echeng and found out that it was not signed by the appropriate authority, refused to transfer the case file to D Echeng Echeng at Zone 13 Ukpo. D Echeng allegedly later mobilized senior police officers from above to pressurize CSP Agbazue to transfer the case to him, but, that CSP Agbazue also mobilized Anambra State stakeholders to put pressure on the higher police hierarchy to counter D Echeng Echeng's pressue. After two months of power tussle, CSP Patrick Agbazue was forced to free Ekunie without charging him to court, citing too much pressure from senior police officers in NIgeria Police Force. In 2022, a Toyota Camry snatched at gunpoint from the owner at Onitsha was tracked to a compound at Nnobi, and , in the compound another vehicle, a Toyota Hummer bus also packed in the compound of one Mr. Dozie Ugbo of Ndam, Nnobi, was discovered, and, upon his arrest alleged that Felix Ekunie (Ikpo-kirikpo) parked the vehicles in his compound. At the time of the incident, Mr. Echeng Echeng has become the Commissioner of police,, Anambra State Police Command. Dozie who was arrested and detained by the police in the state was later to be released, after the owner of the Toyota Camry was settled. About 22 persons were alleged to have been murdered in connection with car snatching and armed robbery operations by of Felix Ekunie-led criminal syndicate, who sometimes dress in military uniforms, according to reliable sources. Incidentally, Felix Ndubisi Ekunie's compound in Nnobi, Idemili South LGA is about 2 minutes drive from Nnobi Police Station. He visits his home regularly and sleeps in his house. He is vice chairman of his community association and attends regular meetings. He is a candidate for the high chief in his town and attends their regular meetings. His associates are regularly seen socializing with police officers from Nnobi Police Station, at beer parlous, ts and other places at Nnobi and surroundings. "IGP should summon all the DPOs and DCOs at Nnobi Police Station and , D to CSPs at Anambra State Police Command and Zone 13 Police Command Ukpo from 2010 till present to for their dealings with Felix Ndubisi Ekunie, car snatching and armed robbery syndicate", the source advised. He, therefore, urged them to feel free to divulge relevant security information to the law enforcement agents as they would equally be protected as anonymous sources in order to make the society liveable and prosperous. "It is important we partner with you because you are everywhere. You are amiable partners. We want to build bridges of understanding so that police will not be problem to you but will help you to solve your problems. Our responsibility is to protect and safeguard everyone in society. Keke riders are part of the society. We want to let you know you that you are very important parts of the society. " We won't allow anyone to intimidate you. You are not second class citizens. Every right in the constitution others enjoy you will also enjoy. We will not condone anyone violating your rights. Your rights will always be protected and. Kindly channel whatever grouse you have against the police or society to my office through your leader," he further maintained. On his part, the Coordinator, AKDF, Comrade Osita Obi, commended the police for the partnership assuring that Keke operators in Anambra State would become law abiding citizens in order to sustain the relationship and rid the State of crimes and criminalities. BY BONIFACE Okeke The traditional ruler of Nwafia community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra state, Igwe Chijioke Nwankwo has urged the public to dismiss as fake any Court Order purporting as a stay of the Justice Promise Otti's Court order barring Chief Dan Obelle from parading as the monarch of the community. Igwe Nwankwo stated that since after Justice Otti of the Awka High Court 3 set aside the certificate of recognition issued to Dan Obelle as traditional ruler of Nawfia by the immediate past istration of Chief Willie Obiano, and, made an order barring Chief Obelle from parading as monarch of the community, the latter had not served him or his lawyers any application filed in any Court urging the Court to make order to stay execution of the order. The monarch even reminded the incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo's led istration that issuance of a certificate of recognition to Dan Obelle by the past istration was an abuse of the Court process because before the action, he was already in the Court challenging his dethronement from his traditional stool. He added that since after Justice Otti barred Chief Obelle from parading as traditional ruler, the latter did not serve him or any of his lawyers any application before any Court of law seeking to stay execution of the order made by Justice Otti. Igwe Nwankwo argued "Before any Court can entertain any application to set aside the Justice Otti's order or make an order for the stay of the execution, the application and brief of argument for such order have to be served on me or my lawyers. This is because I know that such an order cannot be obtained through Exparte application." The monarch stated that from what his team of lawyers told him pertaining to what Dan Obelle's lawyer filed in Appeal Court so far "There's ABSOLUTELY no appeal howsoever because what they filed in the Appeal Court is notice of appeal," the monarch argued. Igwe Nwankwo also pointed out that from the record of the notice of appeal filed at the Appeal Court, Dan Obelle was asking for the following three things: leave to file appeal, an injunction or alternatively, a stay of execution. It would be recalled that Igwe Nwankwo was enthroned the traditional ruler of his community following the gruesome murder of his father, Igwe F. F. B. C. Nwankwo by suspected hired assassins in 2000 while he was in his palace watching the 9 O'clock NTA Network news. Igwe Nwankwo was one of the 13 traditional rulers in the state who were suspended from their thrones by the then Obiano istration for accompanying the State-born billionaire oil mogul, Prince Arthur Eze on a courtesy visit to then President Muhammad Buhari at the presidential Villa, Abuja in 2022. Igwe Nwankwo had gone to Court to challenge his dethronement arguing that the action was an infringement on his fundamental right of freedom of movement and association. |

The former Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations, Chief Emeka Anyaoku and over a thousand other Almunus of Merchants of Light School (MOLS) Oba, Idemili South LGA, Anambra State, have endowed ₦2 billion to revitalise their Alma Mater over a five year period. The alumunus under the auspices of Old Boys Association Worldwide of Merchants of Light School, MOLS, launched the initiative on Saturday during their 2024 Summit, saying it would be realised through donations so as to bring back the school to its lost glory. In partnership with a US-based Old Boy of the school, a comprehensive masterplan for the revitalization of the school has been developed and the funds will be raised through the goodwill of the Old Boys and friends. The summit, with the theme, ‘Alumni Engagement in the Management and Improvement of their Alma Mater’ was chaired by an Old Boy and former Secretary General of Commonwealth of Nations, Chief Emeka Anyaoku. In his address of welcome, the Worldwide President, MOLS Old Boys Association, Prof Tony Nwokoye, said the theme of the summit is apt as the summit not only serves as a homecoming for all Old Boys of the school but also affords them the opportunity to take stock of developments in the school and determine possible areas of intervention. Prof Nwokoye explained that the idea of the endowment fund stems from the Old Boys vision to go beyond sporadic intervention in the school, to have solid partnership with the state government in the overall development and management of the school. “Occasional interventions in the past, have not yielded the desired results nor taken the school to the level we think is appropriate given her age, peers and antecedents, including being one of the very few Higher School Certificate Institutions in the then Eastern Region of Nigeria. “As a means of achieving a well-coordinated development of the school, we have presented a properly designed master plan for the school. “The idea is that individual Old Boys, groups or class sets who wish to undertake projects in the school can liaise with the worldwide body of the Old Boys Association and the school principal to choose from the prioritized areas of needs,” he said. Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman on the occasion, Chief Anyaoku, who recalled his sojourn in the school as a member of the class of 1947, said the school was intentional about its culture of serious academic study, hard work and integrity, evident in the notable individuals it had produced, who went on to reach the pinnacle of their professions. Regretting the very poor condition of the school, Chief Anyaoku proposed the endowment trust, as a means of engaging the Old Boys more closely with the management of the school, in the process of rebuilding the school. “Many educational institutions in developed countries have endowment funds through which the Alumni their alma mater in the maintenance and development of their facilities and infrastructure. “The school should be able to draw from the resources of the fund and address the key challenges facing the school. “The fund should be taken seriously by the Alumni as the condition of the school should be a matter of concern to the alumni. A of donations should be maintained by designated officers of the association and the school,” he said, while making an initial donation of N250,000 to the fund. In a keynote address, the Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh observed that what the MOLS Old Boys are doing, aligns with the Strategic Public Private Community Partnership initiative of Governor Chukwuma Soludo. “This initiative,” he noted, “recognizes the collective strength of communities, alumni, and philanthropists in fostering positive change. “By actively involving ourselves in the management and improvement of our alma mater, we align with this vision, ensuring that the impact of our contributions reverberates beyond the confines of our memories. “Our alma mater, the place where our academic journeys began, holds a special place in our hearts. It represents the foundation of our intellectual growth, the nurturing of our talents, and the forging of lifelong friendships. Today, we gather not only as individuals who have walked these hallowed halls, but as stakeholders in the ongoing legacy of our alma mater.” In their separate goodwill messages, the regent of Oba, Prince Noel Ezenwa and the President General of Oba Patriotic Union, Chief Uzo Ejiofor, commended the initiative by the Old Boys, promising the of Oba community to the ongoing efforts to create a better learning environment for the younger generation of students in the school. Anambra monarch urges Soludo's intervention, as Glamour, Archbishop allegedly instigate crisis at Nawfia By Okey Okechukwu The Traditional Ruler of Nawfia in Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State, Igwe Chijioke Nwankwo has urged governor Chukwuma Soludo's urgent intervention to quell the crisis allegedly being instigated at his community by Chinedu Nwoye (alias Glamour) and a certain Catholic Archbishop. Nwankwo, in a statement dated December 31st 2023, wondered why Nwoye who is Deputy Chief of Staff/Chief of Protocol to the governor and the unnamed Archbishop would be recognising one Daniel Obelle as monarch, who is planning to hold an Ofala festival tomorrow, January 4th. "Any intelligent person must stay out of Nawfia completely on 4th January 2024. How can somebody removed by court competent jurisdiction be planning "Ịgụ-Aro" festival on the 4th January, 2024? I use this forum to advise the governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo to take immediate control of the situation in Nawfia before it escalates to uncontrollable situation," he stated. He further urged the general public to disregard the planned first Ofala festival being organised, describing it as illegal. Obelle, who was issued with certificate of recognition as monarch by ex-governor Willie Obiano 6 days to his exit on power, after several months of suspending Igwe Nwankwo because he was parts of the monarchs that accompanied a wealthy oil magnet, prince Arthur Eze to Abuja to see former President Muhammadu Buhari to mandate the state governor to pay the monarch the mandatory five percent share from the federation . However, Igwe Nwankwo approached a court in suit no. Awka/53/2021 seeking reversal of the action on the ground that his suspension and eventual removal violated his fundamental human rights to freedom of fair hearing, assembly and association. The presiding High Court 3 Judge, Justice Otti set aside the action of government and ordered maintenance of Status quo as it were at August 11, 2020 when the suspension order became effective. According to a statement dated 31st December, 2023, signed by Igwe Nwankwo, on 21st June, 2022, an Awka High Court 3 gave a ruling setting aside the illegal Certificate of Recognition given to Daniel Obelle. "On 28th October, 2022, the same court reiterated its ruling of 21st June, 2022, especially that nobody can accord Daniel Obelle the title Eze/Igwe, and more especially for Daniel Obelle not to parade himself as a traditional ruler of Nawfia. The court also ruled that its ruling must be obeyed until a higher court overturns its rulings," he stated. He, however, fingered governor Chukwuma Soludo's aide, one Mr Chinedu Nwoye and a certain Catholic Archbishop as those contributing to the lingering crisis. "Is it because we have a son that is deputy protocol officer named Chinedu Nwoye (aka Glamour), fondly called excess power. It is obvious that Chinedu Nwoye is acting on a script written by a top traditional ruler and a top Catholic Archbishop. Chinedu Nwoye may have been promised governorship candidate come 2029. "Let me reinstate what I stated in 2000 after my father's brutal assassination that part of the reason somebody ed some people in Nawfia to plan and execute the assignation of my father, HRH Igwe Dr Sir FPBC Nwankwo (Osuọfia 1 na Nawfia), that he was given an assignment by the church which he did not anchor well with somebody," he noted. |

But the Anambra State Police Commissioner, Mr Aderemi Adeoye, who denied knowledge of the shooting, added that the command did not deploy any officer to secure Agu-Nagwu land.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, 82-year-old Chief Peter Aniemena alleged that Igwe Anikweze was making efforts to distabilise the community through his attempt to dethrone two lifetime titled men in his cabinet by unconstitutional means. Chief Aniemena said the elders of Ifite Awkuzu deemed the move by the traditional ruler as an attempt to aggravate the already heightened tension in the community, and urged the governor to halt the enthronement ceremony of what he described as 'two illegal Ichie' They claimed that the move to dethrone the two lifetime titled men was for their uprightness and defense for the right of the people and interest of the community. According to him, the Constitution and tradition of the Community provides that the two titled men remain Ichie till they die or the demise, dethronement or resignation of the traditional ruler. "The two titled men, Ichie Ikechukwu Okafor and Ichie Nweke Oniezue of Isiorji village who are still alive, active and never tendered any resignation letter to anyone," he said. By Okechukwu Onuegbu Embattled traditional ruler of Nwafia in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra state, Igwe Chijioke Nwankwo has urged governor Chukwuma Soludo to call his appointee to order as he was allegedly setting his community on fire by ing another person as monarch. Nwankwo, who was speaking in an interview, alleged that the governor's deputy chief of staff/director of protocol, Mr. Chinedu Nwoye was ing one Chief Dan Obele as monarch despite an order of the state High Court presided by Justice Promise Oti which stopped him from parading himself as the traditional ruler of Nwafia. But Mr. Nwoye, in a phone interview, claimed that the state government has not revoked the certificate of recognition issued to Chief Obele as Traditional ruler of Nwafia. "I am an officer of the state government, so I am recognising the person the state government gave certificate of recognition. Until the state government withdraws his certificate of recognition, and, issue it to another person, he(Obele) remains the traditional ruler of Nwafia ", Nwoye insisted. But Igwe Nwankwo insisted that stay of execution has not been obtained against the order of Justice Oti's Court, and, that he has been abiding by the order of the Court. He reminded Governor Soludo that his father was assassinated by people who conspired against his traditional stool, and, warned that he would not allow himself to be killed in the same circumstance. Igwe Nwankwo stated that his travail started under the immediate past Governor Willy Obiano istration when he had already reigned as the monarch of Nawfia for more than 20 years When he, along, with about 11 other traditional rulers accompanied the state's multi-billionaire oil mogul, Prince Arthur Eze on a courtesy visit on President Muhammad Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He said that the Obiano istration had suspended all of them from their thrones, but, later reinstated about eight of them, but, that he went to the Court to challenge the government action as an infringement on his fundamental right of movement. Igwe Nwankwo stated that his legal action was against the Anambra state government and the state council of traditional rulers which Chief Obele was not a party. He, argued that Justice Oti's Court order made on June 22, 2022, which it reinstated on October, 28, 202, ordered that status quo ante be maintained, and, argued that the Court's order referenced the government action against his Igweship on August 11, 2021. Igwe Nwankwo who reacted to the programme rolled out by Chief Obele to perform "Igu Aro" traditional ritual of the community which he scheduled on January 4, 2023, accused the Soludo's appointee from the community of backing Obelle to perform the ceremony, but, warned that the action besides being a contempt of the Court might spark of anarchy in the community. Igwe Nwankwo complained "I think there is already anarchy (in Nwafia) my detractor, who is Dan Obelle believes he has somebody in government . " The court has given a ruling on the 21st of June,2022. And on October 28, 2022, the court reiterated its ruling of 21st June,2022, saying there is no any other from a high court, meaning Court of Appeal or Supreme Court, ordering the court to stay. "But there has been any somebody in government (who) believes they are bigger than the law and they become lawless. " I have obeyed all the court orders; I have done everything to be calm but the want to show me superiority. " this is what led to my father's death: after he was given certificate, they continued to distract him until he died. " I don't want to go that way and I will not go that way. " I want government to stand by what they said on 22nd September,2023, that Dan Obelle is not Igwe; he has been removed. "That government has realized that there is a court order saying status quo remains. They have not obeyed that status quo. "I want the government of Soludo, because I know that Soludo respects the law. But somebody in government is trying to set Nawfia on fire. It's time government takes action and stops Dan Obelle from celebrating anything like IGU ARO, pursuant to Anambra Traditional Rulers Law 2007, section 15(m). He is one of the protocol officers of the governor. "Can government approbate and reprobate? The status quo means go back to whoever was Igwe before August 11,2020. The order was very specific and unequivocal. "There is no doubt that it on 11th August that Obiano suspended 12 of us. What that order means is that I should go back to my seat as Igwe until we finish the case not even Dan's case: Dan's case is done with. Dan wants to be ed in the case, but he cannot be ed at the Appeal. He said he is an interesting party; Dan is not an interesting party: he is a meddlesome interloper", Igwe Nwankwo argued further. |

BY BONIFACE Okeke The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja, has dismissed the appeal brought before it by the House of Representatives candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogbaru Federal Constituency, Anambra state, against the victory of the Labour Party candidate, Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, whose victory had earlier been affirmed by the Election Petition Tribunal, in Awka, Anambra state. Justice M.I.Sirajo,who delivered the judgment, on Saturday, December 16, 2023, said that the appeal by Hon. Onyema, lacked merit and therefore affirmed the earlier judgement of the Tribunal, which was delivered on Friday, October 20, 2023. Speaking after the judgment, Hon. Ogene attributed the victory to the grace and favour of God, which he said have paved the way for him right from the day he decided to participate in the election. Hon. Ogene, who is the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Renewable Energy, said further, "Just as I said after the tribunal verdict, which also declared me victorious, the grace of God is my greatest advocate. And my judicial victories are true validation of the will of the people and the undeniable grace of God. "The journey has been both emotionally and physically draining, but God sustained me and has also, once again, proven that only Him determines who should lead a people at any given time. And I promise never to misuse this grace and opportunity to serve. "I will continue to serve with dignity, honour and utmost responsibility. "This victory is particularly for the good people of Ogbaru Federal Constituency, who willingly and overwhelmingly gave me their mandate to represent them. "I give all glory to God for these resounding victories - at the first and second polls. And also at both the Election Petition Tribunal and now the Appeal Court. "Now is the time to roll up my sleeves and get to work in the service of my people and Nigeria in general. By the grace of God, Ogbaru Federal Constituency will never regret trusting me with their votes." The Tribunal sitting in Awka, Anambra state, had on Friday, October 20, affirmed the victory of the Labour Party candidate, Ogene, against the petition of the People's Democratic Party(PDP) candidate, Hon.Chukwuka Onyema, who was defeated at the polls by Ogene according to the results of the election released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on April 15, 2023, after a supplementary election in the constituency. INEC records indicated that the LP candidate scored 10,851 votes of the total votes cast, followed by the candidate of the PDP who polled 10,619 votes, while the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Hon. Arinze Awogu, came third with 10,155 votes. The election in Ogbaru Federal Constituency was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, after the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections. As a result, a rerun election was held in the constituency on April 15, but unsatisfied with the result, Hon. Onyema, who had held three tenures of office, proceeded to the tribunal to challenge Ogene's victory. With this appeal court verdict, Hon. Ogene is now the authentic representative of Ogbaru Federal Constituency till the next four years. |
