Noblefresh: GboyegaD: Oga Gboyega, you see why cases of AP would continue and getting Visas would only get tough right. We are cheats, it is our nature. I had a meeting with a lawyer here last month and she told me that the US doesn't trust documents from Nigeria because it has higher chances of being fake. The reputation is already damaged and it is getting worse. I was chatting with two of my course mates the other day, a Chinese and an Indian, they were both issued visas for five years while I was issued for two years and stamped in as D/S. We are all pursuing a STEM MBA, meaning that we can be in the US for five years potentially. 2 Likes |

If you are trapped, you only lose when you sell. All of us are gamblers na, even Warren Buffet. Next time, don't just have price range and then start loading once price gets there, check the mood of the market. There is still 4 months before elections, the activities of foreigners have materially reduced, your dummy PFA PMs are sitting and watching until the market charges up strongly before they start buying... 212(a)(6)(C)(i) Material Misrepresentation / Fraud Material, willful misrepresentation or fraud is the second most “popular” grounds for inissibility among consular officers — and one of the most complicated areas of immigration law. The consequences for making such a misrepresentation are draconian: a lifetime bar from the United States. This is why consular officers are cautioned to be careful in making such a decision, with such decisions subject to “strict scrutiny” and requiring “substantial evidence” to them. This section of the Immigration and Nationality Act, 212(a)(6)(C)(i), requires three elements: a finding that the visa applicant made a misrepresentation; did so willfully; and the misrepresentation was material. A misrepresentation is a statement not in accord with the truth — made by either the visa applicant or his agent on his behalf. It must be a statement or a submitted document; silence is not considered a misrepresentation. So the fact that a tour agency or visa consultant erroneously completed a visa application does not “save” the applicant. Similarly, an applicant who does not know English is not “saved” because he misunderstood a question; the inaccurate information is still considered a misrepresentation. 1 Like |

hyness: The risk is already factored in. That is why they are not considering exiting Naija, the return outweighs the risk. I'll be pitching Naija to some IM firms next month and the story is simple "you don't get the returns anywhere over the long term". With the many negative stories on the EM space recently and political risk in Naija, good money can still be made. If any of the global IM firms commits $100m to Naija equties, the market will stabilize. All you need to do is to sell back once the coast is clear and the mkt is risk on or you hold for the log haul 3 Likes |

wanaj0: Outside where? Search for "Warren Buffett with Jay Z 2 from 5 (Warren Buffett)" on YouTube and watch Buffet himself say so. In fact, he said a lot of luck. When you say there is a strategy, it should always yield the same result, if it does not, then there is an element of chance. The other thing is selection bias, others would have definitely done more than Buffet at the same time but failed. The world don't get to hear their stories because no one is interested in a failure and a failure won't tell his story because of shame 3 Likes |

sellydion:Story story, hindsight bias. There is no system that works. When was the fundamentals of FO ever right? Warren Buffet was only lucky that what he loved doing became a banger. And the fact that serendipity smiled his way. For example, if Harvard had accepted him, there was no way he would have met Graham at Columbia to learn under his tutelage. Experience is the best teacher. You'll learn the ropes by doing it. 2 Likes |

Yayira: Madam, no time, na student I be. But as a general matter, PMs, analysts and most investors see elections in EMs as risk events, so it is a herd thing. And for your info, diamond sits atop my list. When the time comes, the market will forget about its woes and price it around its peers. I also believe that they'll soon return to profit. |

Yayira:Sorry that I am quoting you again. Valuation ain't a thing. An understanding of the times, market sentiment or momentum and having a few stocks on your watch list is what matters. This market is not hard to play. All stocks move at the same time. Na who be that your broker, just mention their name make I tell you the level of their loss. Who re that Vetiva's valuation that puts diamond at around 4 naira. All these broker dealers are sitting on heavy losses, they are all waiting to leverage their portfolios and return to profit earlier than an unlevered portfolio would. There is still September, October... and February. you think there is a sustainable bull run in between? Global sentiment on emerging markets is risk off, you have political and currency risk in Nigeria, the foreign funds would rather buy when the market is up and the outlook is positive than bet a dime in the face of this uncertainties. Before dem come next year, we go don buy push prices go up and offload to them when dem show. 1 Like |

Yayira: Madam you are contradicting yourself. He should learn a lesson for selling at 20+ and you are waiting to buy at 13 to average down. What you are suffering from is loss aversion bias. You also demonstrated the anchoring bias by mentioning that you saw Zenith trading at 34. The thing about this market is that you learn from experience and that is the unfortunate truth. Next time when you buy a stock and there is a general warning about a fall, you would not waste time but bail. You are better off selling at 26+ than waiting for 13+ for a revenge. The market will still fall and that is the plain truth, so brace up for the uncertainties ahead. 3 Likes |

jmanity: Oga, you're not getting my point. There is no benefit that comes with an induction, it is all scam. I only did ICAN because I am a graduate of ing. And no serious recruiter will turn you back because you have not done induction. I guess you're just starting out, ICAN is only good for starters to show you're serious. Anything after that is what you can do. What has ICAN helped you achieve that you wouldn't have achieved ordinarily. Nigerian professional bodies are all fraud. If you're a candidate in the CFA program for example, you will not be required to pay annual dues like your professional bodies do in Nigeria. You'll not understand what I'm saying because the system you have now is all that you know. I would argue the same way back in the day. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

jmanity: What does having the ACA title and a hip number add to your abilities. And on certifying financial documents, Jim Obaze and his cronies ed the FRCN bill for the money. It is part of the fraud in the system in Nigeria. I was in charge of ing the bank I work for in 2012 and once I got to the FRCN, Jim was only interested in the cheque I brought and not the other requirements. And for your Info, I can certify documents because it is not only ICAN holders that can do that. By the FRCN bill, of other professional bodies that with can certify documents. My point is, FRCN itself is a fraud. There was absolutely no need for it and I wonder what the big four audit firms were doing to allow Jim Obaze get away with that fraud. 1 Like |

karferguso: What benefits does being a member of the institute offer. The toughest part of becoming a member of ICAN is ing the exam and after ing you are told you are not a member. You know why? They want to collect your money for induction. I ed since November 2009 and have not and will not participate in any induction. Induction is a ceremony, it does not add any knowledge to you. I write graduate member on my CV and that is it. I once went for and interview at Financial derivatives and one those ICAN worshippers asked why I have not done induction, I told him straight up that industion is a ceremony and does not affect my capabilities and what I can deliver on the job. 1 Like |

mayd16: How can you apply for a B1/B2 last year and still go ahead to say you don't have a sister in the US? When you tell them not to go close to the embassy or even fill out the DS160 without a strong reason they'll tell you you don't want them to progress. You hired an agent and the application did not go through and you want to prove to him that you can do without him, now that you have failed you want to go back. Do you know that you're done? I am very sure the salary information on both DS160 would be different and many other things. You failed when you refused to work with the agent to get your previous details before filling the second DS160. You have materially impaired your chances and it is now a tall order to get a US Visa. Way forward: call the agent and have a meeting with him to compare both applications. Look at the discrepancies and evaluate your chances. Whatever the outcome of the meeting, be aware that you yourself have dealt your chances of securing a US Visa a great blow by that singular act of misrepresentation. It is has been recorded on your file. |
