The former boss of the 26-year-old photographer detained in Keffi Correctional Centre after he resigned via text message has broken his silence following an outcry on social media.

Mike Oluwole, the former boss of Nicholas Peter, spoke to Punch on Monday, September 2.

Oluwole said Nicholas came to his office to sell a camera lens, which he later discovered to be allegedly stolen.

He told the publication: "When he came to my office to sell the camera lens, I asked about its owner. He claimed that it belonged to his friend, and I put him on the spot to confirm. I made him sign that he sold it to me. I then told him how much I needed a good photographer and photo editor and he showed interest. I put him on a series of photography tests, which he ed outstandingly.

"I then employed him on probation for six months with a monthly pay of N70,000, and he consented. But I noticed something with Nicholas: he is always demanding. My company has a scheme called ‘I owe you (IOU)’ to help relieve staff of their financial burdens until the end of the month when they get their salaries to repay. He was always defaulting in the scheme and would beg me to help him spread the pay beyond the next month.

"When he resigned, he only sent a text, and I asked him if that was the appropriate way to go about things. He then began to insult me, advising me on how to go about human management and leadership.

"I learned that our office phone was missing; I rang him to no avail after CCTV revealed that a day before his resignation, he had returned to the office, disconnected the office camera, and connected it while heading out. Unperturbed by his actions that are costing my customer database, I reported him to the police, and he was arrested."

He said the photographer was questioned about the disappearance of the phone for days before his case was transferred to the court. Oluwole alleged that Nicholas later confessed to stealing the phone, but it was too late to stop the prosecution.

He said that after being pressured, he wrote to the Upper Area Court, Mpape in Abuja, where Nicholas was prosecuted, to stop the case, but his letter was not approved.

"I heard that the letter was rejected because it was not properly written, of which I did due diligence. I learned about the bail fee when he got to Keffi Correctional Centre. At first, he said it was N20,000, which I sent to one of the people he ed to beg me for his release. He rang me again and said that it was N50,000. I didn’t believe him because he had always had a distrust for him. So, I informed them to refund me.

"I did all I could to facilitate his release, and when he returned, he came to my office, and I sent N20,000 to him again with the promise that I would help him get an offer if he changed for good."

A GUO Transport driver has allegedly threatened to kill engers who report him to the company’s management following complaints about his unruly behavior during a trip from Lagos to Aba.

The alarming incident has left engers outraged and concerned for their safety.

engers who boarded the bus at GUO’s Old-Ojo station in Lagos were initially scheduled to depart at 7:00 am yesterday, August 31, but due to delays from the station managers, the bus did not leave until 8:30 am. As the journey progressed, the driver, identified as Nonso, reportedly drove them around Ogun State for three hours in search of fuel, further aggravating the already frustrated engers.

When the engers expressed their displeasure over the driver’s actions, Nonso allegedly responded with a chilling threat, stating that he would k!ll anyone who dared to report him to GUO management. This led to growing fear and tension among the engers as the journey dragged on.

The situation deteriorated further when the bus finally reached Owerri at 1:00 am, far behind schedule. Exhausted and frustrated, the engers were allegedly then asked to disembark as the driver decided to end the trip prematurely. He allegedly locked the bus and left the engers stranded outside in the middle of the night.

Despite having paid N32,000 for the bus trip, the engers were informed that they would not receive any refund. Instead, they were told to board a local bus to complete their journey to Aba, adding to their frustration and disappointment.

A final-year student of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, Anambra State, Noel Okechukwu, 27, was allegedly shot dead by security operatives.

The incident happened at Senator Stella Oduah’s Estate, Akili-Ozizor Community in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.

According to Punch, the deceased was shot dead by the local vigilante operatives attached to the estate on August 17, 2024.

The security operatives alleged that Noel was shot because he was one of those who had been “looting and vandalising” property in the estate.

Speaking to the publication on Thursday, August 29, the father of the boy, Rex Okechukwu, disclosed that the local vigilante operatives shot his son dead inside the estate as he was going to buy fresh fish.

In a petition sent to the Divisional Police Officer at Ogbaru Police Division, Atani, the father, stated that, according to eyewitnesses, the shooting occurred after an altercation ensued between the guards and his son.

“The incident occurred on Saturday, August 17, 2024. On the said day, my son, Noel Okechukwu, a 27-year old final year student of Ojukwu varsity, had left for Senator Stella Oduah’s Estate at Akili-Ozizor, a neighbouring community to buy fresh fish at a fish pond located inside the estate,” the petition read. “On getting to the gate leading to the entrance of the estate, the private security guards guarding the Emestate disallowed him entrance and an altercation ensued between the guards and himself leading to one of the guards pulling the trigger of his pump action riffle and pumping bullets into his body which made him to slump.

"Soon after gunning him down, the guards started giving him water to drink and as soon as he took some quantities of the water, he gave up the ghost and the guards sent a motorcyclist who rushed to inform the bereaved family of the unfortunate incident.

“We, as the family , are demanding justice against the private guards because they had no right to take the life of our son in such a brutish manner."

The Divisional Police Officer, at Atani, Mr .I. Andrew, confirmed the receipt of a petition.

“Yes, we have received a petition concerning the alleged shooting and k!lling. But the report I had before me concerning the incident is that the deceased was among those who had been looting and vandalising property inside the estate,” the DPO said.

“Apart from that community being a known gunmen-infested area, they said the deceased was caught with his gang armed with pump action guns looting and vandalising the estate, and when confronted, they opened fire on the security guards and the guards returned fire for the fire which led to his being gunned down.”

The DPO further said he had concluded arrangements to transfer the case file to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

The Lagos State Police command has arrested an unnamed nurse over the d$ath of a 36-year-old woman, simply identified as Abiola, over a failed butt-lifting procedure allegedly carried out on the deceased by the nurse.

Ali Al-Amiri, 21 (07.04.03) of Wyld Way, Brent, Joshua Oladele, 20 (12.04.04) of Wyld Way, Brent, and Micah Hines, 21 (04.06.03) of Victoria Avenue, Brent, appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Wednesday, 28 August where they were sentenced as follows:

Oladele was sentenced to life imprisonment, to serve a minimum of 28 years.

Hines was sentenced to life imprisonment, to serve a minimum of 25 years.

Al-Amiri was sentenced to life imprisonment, to serve a minimum of 24 years.

Officers investigating the murder were recognised for the detail and attention that had been given to this case and all involved with the trial were issued with a Judge's Commendation.
The three men, who armed themselves with weapons before fatally stabbing 25-year-old Hamzah Iqbal in Wembley were all convicted following a trial at the same court on Tuesday, 20 August.
The court heard how Hamzah was attacked when he was out with friends in Olympic Way on the evening of 24 September 2023.
The three defendants had gone out that night armed with knives and machetes, and were wearing masks.

Why Hamzah was singled out has never been established, but he was attacked with a sustained ferocity by all three defendants, suffering 23 knife wounds, one of which, ended his life.
Officers and the London Ambulance Service rushed to the scene and Hamzah was taken to hospital, but despite the best efforts of the emergency services, sadly he could not be saved.
Detectives began to piece together the events of that evening, compiling footage from a painstaking trawl of CCTV, which led to the identification and arrest of the suspects.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers, who led the investigation, said: “This was a ferocious sustained attack by three men that left Hamzah with no opportunity to defend himself.
“His family is devastated by their loss and their lives are forever changed by the actions of three violent thugs.
"Those three men went out armed with weapons that evening, the only conclusion that can be made is that they had set out that evening intent on violence.
“Our investigation team worked hard to build a case against the defendants, ensuring that they would face the consequences of their actions.
“Although nothing can bring Hamzah back, it is my sincere hope that his family find a measure of solace in knowing that those responsible for his death will now spend many years of their lives behind bars."

A new report has revealed how girls as young as 13 from Nigeria are trafficked to Ivory Coast under the guise of selling 'body cream' only to be forced to undergo prostitution.

According to a new report by the Guardian UK, thousands of Nigerian girls were tricked with promises of work by agents taking advantage of the high unemployment level in the country.

Once they arrive in the city of Bouaké, the first words they are taught are “Alors baiser” and “c’est douce” which they use to initiate sexual activity and then to fake pleasure during the act.

A girl known as Sara reportedly said her mother’s best friend had told her she was going to the Ivorian city to sell body lotion. Instead, an older woman – a “madam” who had paid for her travel without her knowledge sent her to brothels in the city every night.

Sara (not her real name) says she is paid between 3,000–5,000 Central African Francs (CFA) – between £3.90 and £6.50 (N8,000-13,000 )– for every man she sleeps with for a “short time” and 25,000 CFA for an overnight stay. The money is split three ways between the brothel, Sara and the madam.

Three months after arriving in Bouaké, Sara is still waiting to earn enough to pay off debts of 2.5m CFA to the madam for travel, clothes, sustenance and bribes paid to agents, and return to Nigeria.

“She [the madam] took my Nigerian sim card when I came here, so I couldn’t call my people at home for the first month,” says Sara, who now goes by the name of Sugar and refused to give her real age.

Across Nigeria, recruiting agents go into rural communities or post in jobseekers’ groups on Facebook, talking ambiguously about hustles that yield plenty of rewards and sending photographs of girls and women they have recruited to known madams.

They coach recruits to tell immigration officials, who are sometimes aware of what is happening or simply don’t care enough to carry out proper scrutiny, that they are crossing the border to go to the nearby market in Cotonou, an auxiliary port for Nigeria.

Many recruits say, agents, who have been known to be a relative, do not accompany them on the journey but their numbers to other agents who guide them across the porous borders. With no means of identification, they gain access by paying bribes of 1,000-2,000 CFA, sometimes paid ahead to the driver by the agents.'' the report read

According to the paper, its reporters spoke to at least two dozen girls and women in the forest, some as young as 15. Some of them said they had been starved for refusing to work or beaten up by angry men who came to them for sex.

The report says many of the girls barely speak French and say they don’t know the country well enough to be able to escape.

Nigerian immigration officials who have managed to repatriate girls trapped as sex workers say they have seen girls as young as 13 that were trafficked.

“A lot of the girls we found claim to be over 18 and doing sex work of their own free will, but most of the time from their physical appearance, you know they are not,” says the former Nigerian official. “Tests to determine their age, such as scanning a wisdom tooth, cost about 50,000 CFA so you have to talk to them, but if they are insistent, you let them go back.”

The report concludes;

For Sara, the wait to return home goes on. She was in junior secondary school in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, before dropping out to travel to Ivory Coast. These days she is learning how to barter condoms for other items.

“I really don’t like the work I’m doing here. I miss my people at home,” she says.

If he wins the election, and completes the new seven-year mandate, Biya will be 100 years in 2032.

According to the report, Biya's decision to delay the election by a year (postponed from 2025 to 2026), and to allow him to contest despite his age, has angered the opposition in Cameroon.

The report stated that opposition politicians may not be allowed to contest, leaving Biya free to win again and serve for 7 years.

Biya has served as the President for 42 years since 1982. He also served as the Prime Minister for 7 years from 1975 to 1982 before then. He postponed the Parliamentary and Municipal elections until 2026.

"Cameroon's parliament last month approved Biya's request to postpone parliamentary and Municipal elections until 2026 to allow some breathing space, claiming that the political calendar is crowded," the report said.

A 16-year-old girl living in Osogbo, Osun State, has accused her stepfather, a clergy simply identified as Femi, of getting her pregnant when she was 13.

The victim, seeking alternative dispute resolution, reported the issue to the World Institute for Peace (WIP), a Non-Governmental Organisation.

She claimed in an affidavit, sworn to at the Osun State Ministry of Justice, that after her stepfather impregnated her, the pregnancy was aborted.

During a meeting with the officials of the NGO, the victim said that the matter was reported to her teacher in school after about four years of constant abuse by her stepfather.

During an alternative dispute resolution meeting organised by WIP, the victim explained that Femi started “having s£xual int£rcourse with me since I was 12. When I was 13 years old, I got pregnant and he took me to a hospital for an abortion.

He asked me to lie to the doctor that my classmate impregnated me and ran away. The first time he had int£rcourse with me was on my mother’s bed and he has been doing it continuously.

I decided not to take the matter to court because my mother had four children for him, although two were de@d.

I don’t want a situation whereby when the children grow up, it would be as if I am the one who sent their father to prison. I decided not to take legal action because of his children who are my younger siblings.

At the meeting, Femi, who claimed to be a commercial motorcyclist besides being a pastor in a church he established, itted to committing the crime.

“It is true I slept with her although I don’t the number of times I did it with her. I’m a pastor and it was God who told me to sleep with her. God also told me to abort the pregnancy,” he said.

The affidavit, sworn by the mother of the victim on her behalf, read, “My daughter went to the human rights organisation, World Institute for Peace, and reported a case of def!lement and ab0rtion levelled against her stepfather, Femi, early in August 2024

“That, she (victim) agreed to resolve the dispute through alternative dispute resolution and has engaged in negotiation.

“That the family is not ready to pursue any case whatsoever with Mr Femi any longer. That the purpose of withdrawing was as a result of a settlement between the families which she was the sole proposition on the settlement.”

The chairman of the NGO, Lamina Omotoyosi, urged parents to ensure the safety of their children especially, from close family and relations, lamenting increasing cases of incest in the state.

President Bola Tinubu has sacked Jalal Arabi, as Executive Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON)

In a statement released, Presidential spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, stated that the President has nominated Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman as the new Chairman of the agency.

“Professor Usman is a renowned scholar with qualifications from two Islamic centres of excellence — the University of Madinah and Peshawar University, Pakistan. He is also well-grounded in Hajj operations, having served as the Chairman of Kano State Pilgrims Board, and successfully superintended the operations of the largest quota of state pilgrims in the country.

The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Senate. The President expects the new Chairman of NAHCON to discharge his duties with integrity, transparency, and utmost fidelity to the nation.”

Arabi who was appointed in October, ran into trouble over the 2024 Hajj which the Federal Government released N90 billion to subsidise.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arrested Arabi and the commission’s secretary, Abdullahi Kontagora, over the issue.

An EFCC source had said a total of 314,098 Saudi Riyals was recovered from the sacked NAHCON chairman.

“The chairman fraudulently overpaid himself, the commissioners, secretary and directors for the 2024 hajj operational cost.

The chairman was entitled to SR15,929 but he got SR50,000; three commissioners who were meant to get SR 15,929 each received SR 40,000 each. The secretary got SR 30,000 instead of SR14,336. Directors/Chief of Staff received SR 30,000 instead of the SR2,550 they were entitled to. The total of SR314,098 were recovered from all of them,” the source said.
