COPIED Embassy: Abuja Embassy First Attempt School: East Tennessee State University COA: $42K Deficit: $6,720 Course: Masters in Computer and Information Science Window: 11 Honestly it was just God who intervened for me. I wanted to get my i20 on time, to be able to secure a visa appointment date. So before I got my i20, I submitted my uncles bank statement , because it was such a hassle getting my mums own from the bank. So I used my uncles own, because I “heard” I could always update it. But that wasn’t the case for me. I reached out to the International Students Representative, asking if I could update my i20, but she declined severally. It was a concern, but I had to go with what I had. Interview proper I was the first to be interviewed by the VO this morning. So he was on his feet the whole time. Interview: VO: Good morning, your documents Me: Here they are please ed it to him and then he asked me to excuse him for a minute. 1 minute turned to 5 minutes. But I didn’t complain atall. I needed the time to loosen up a little bit Interview: VO: where are you going in the US Me: I am going to East Tennessee State University for a Masters degree in Computer and Information Science, focusing on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. I will also be working with Prof. ****** on Developing AI powered natural language processing solutions for software applications. VO: Are you married? Me: No I’m not VO: Any kids? Me: Nope. VO: You have a COA of $42k. How will you be funding that? Me: I have a GA that covers my tuition in full and 70% of my living expenses. (As I talked, he looked through to confirm). My Uncle, Mr. *****, will be covering my deficit. (I wanted to go in and explain he didn’t let me) VO: Do you have a bank statement? Because a lot of people come here saying a relative is sponsoring, but it’s always a lie. Me: Oh, ofcourse I do. (I ed it, then he asked for another minute. He took the bank statement somewhere then came back after a minute or so and said everything looked good) VO: Have you been to the US before? Me: No, not the US, but I’ve been to other countries. VO: Can you mention? Me: I mentioned a long list. VO: Do you have relatives in the US? Me: No I don’t VO: (Repeated the same question of where I’ve traveled to) Which countries have you been to again? Me: I repeated again, in the exact same order lol. VO: How many siblings do you have? Me: I have just a sister VO: What do your parents do Me: I told him VO: What will you be doing after this degree? Me: Firstly, I would be reing my team at ******, as the lead AI/ML Engineer where we would be kickstarting the integration of AI and machine learning into our software solutions. The skills I am going to gain in Deep learning frameworks and Natural Language Processing would be a game changer in helping us take on more ambitious projects. Secondly, I would be devoting more time to my baby, it’s a blockchain startup. My vision is to make use of AI to automate compliance and regulatory tasks, tackling pressing issues like money laundering. VO: Ambitious Me: (while smiling)You can say that VO: You can’t enter the United States until 30 days before resumption….. Ah I didn’t hear anything again for real!!! It was after he said this that I noticed he was even wearing a Man City Tag. After he gave me my white paper, I said “God bless you and up Man City!”. We both laughed and I left. God is so good and he keeps his promises. I’m grateful to my system fr!! I can’t over emphasize this. You really can’t embark on this journey alone. And I’m glad God placed people in my life to help. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Good day to you. I already told you were you should apply; you don't hold a status there in SK, hence your study permit is likely to get refuse.
anyanchinye: |
![]() |
That's where you got a problem; your status in SK is not strong enough; hence, you are not eligible to apply from there. Consider reapplying from Naija or where you have permanent legal status, and also demonstrate strong home ties.

The visa officer is requesting documented financial proof that you can each dependent’s cost of living as estimated. Since your I-20 only shows funding for you, the officer wants to see additional funds for dependents through an increment of your funding, which the school is not willing to adjust, personal funding, or that of a credible sponsor. Since the school won’t increase the funding, you’ll need to demonstrate that you personally have enough funds to your wife and children. 1. Submitting a personal bank statement showing at least $20,000 in liquid funds. 2. A letter of financial from a close family member (along with their bank statement and a sworn affidavit). 3. Documentation of your GTA stipend, even if the school didn’t list it for dependents. You may still need to request a new I-20 from your Designated School Official (DSO) for each dependent, even if no extra institutional funding is being added. The I-20s should: a. Indicate that they are dependents of an F-1 student. b. Be accompanied by the financial proof you're now submitting. You will need a cover letter explaining that while your school cannot increase your funding, you have now provided financial proof covering all required living expenses. Attach your bank statements, affidavit of (if using another sponsor), GTA contract/salary confirmation, and the new I-20s for dependents. Izanghi: 1 Like |

anyanchinye: |

I will advise you to order for GCMS note. If you are applying outside your home country, you must consider your immigration status in SK is important. You couldn't use your business to demonstrate your financial capability. Next time ensure to include TCC.

F1 visa interview First attempt (Approved) ✅✅✅✅✅✅ Date: 15 may 2025 Time: 8:00Am Location: Lagos Embassy Program: Double Masters (Media and EMDD) $7k deficit Before I start, please know what you put your DS-160, and build your story around it. As I was talking he was looking at the DS-160. I am tall, I could see his activities There was alottttttt of denials, and I just stood confident because I have manifested my visa and traveling to the united states months before, so I was just there to collect my approved visa. After lots of rejection over the counter, I decided to erase most of the prepared answer in my head, and just retain some key points. VO: Goodmotning, please me your I-20 and your port ME: Good morning officer, here you go. I was smiling and looking directly at him. (I also make sure I’m well dressed, and my hands were visible over the counter and I demonstrated with my hands well) it’s psychology. Vo: How many school did you apply to? Me: Just two. VO: Okay, I see Ball state, so why ball state? Me: I went for ball state for two main reasons. First, they have practical labs and hands-on experiences in film and digital media. Speaking with director of media, his research interest in local history is so exciting to me that I knew right there that I would love to work with him. Also the second reason is because I’m an African documentary storyteller, and ball state, in person of Dr Jennifer pallilonis, showed me how EMDD and media can help me achieve my career goals. We scheduled a zoom call, and When I shared what I was doing in Africa, she was excited and willing to work with me, and she even offered me a GA to come study. Vo: You have a deficit of $7k, how do you intend to fund it? Me: My brother will be taking care of that, at it’s in tune of less than $10k, he was happy to give me as a gift. Even though I could easily cover the expense, as I have been saving up for my graduate school for the last 5years, he insisted that his is way of ing and showing me how proud he was of me. (I smiled again well) Vo: What does your brother do? Me: He’s a senior civil engineer and he was for many multinationals in form of consultancy. Vo: Okay, good. How many years did you say your brother has worked again? Me: 12 years now (with a smile) VO: When was the last time you were in school? Me: 2023. What was the highest degree? B.Sc in Business istration and Marketing (it’s a double bachelor). VO: Have you travelled out of the country before? Me: Yes, I have travelled to couple of historical sites in Ghana, Benin and Togo. I do tour guide and take people on this trip to give them historical knowledge about local cultures. VO: I see, okay. What do you plan to do when you get back. Me: Because of what I do currently, which is African documentary storyteller, The technical competences I get from the EMDD program, and the practical competences I acquire from the media program, will help me to further research into design thinking and campaign optimization of local history. There are a lot of historical site in Africa that are not getting the necessary attention and because of lack of man power and knowledge in that field, those history aren’t brought into the media space. This degree will give me the necessary knowledge to further my work in that area. VO: oh so you are a film maker? Me: Yes, with a big smile. VO: Have you been to Gaza or Palestine? Me: No, not at all. VO: I will be denying you temporarily, but do not worry, congratulations. This is routine, I just need to do some istrative processes on your documents, and will get to you within a week, this is your first time applying to the US, right? Me: Yes, it’s my first time. VO: when is your program stating? Me: August 15th. VO: I will be keeping your port and your I-20. Congratulations, and have a nice day. Me: Thank you. What I notice: Do not rehearse. Know everything about your program, let it excite you. I showed a lot of excitement about my program, my research, what I needed it for. I kept it short and simple. I wasn’t forcing anything or any words. Those that required one word answer, I gave one word answer, those that required expanded answers, I gave expanded answers. During all of it, I made sure I maintained eye when he looked at me, used hand movements, smiled when I get to a point I’m ionate about. I taking about one of the professors documenting a 100-year history of Indiana state. I paused and smiled well there. And I said, that captivated me, and motivated me to work with him. Good luck. You can apply for a normal visit visa, because going to Canada with the intention of giving birth is a different category of visa, which might require additional documents or a more scrutinized process than the normal visit. Some people don't disclose their pregnancy, especially if it’s in the early stage; however, misrepresentation can lead to bans from Canada. If your pregnancy is advanced, you may be asked to present proof of funds of 10,000 CAD to 20,000 CAD to cover delivery. Also, a doctor's note confirming your due date and that you are medically fit to travel. Desmondola2020: |

USA visa interview hint: 1) Don't put the visa officer in a bad mood. They approve visas based on how they feel, so make them feel good. One way to do this: Don't ask them to repeat the questions over and over again 2) Don't give short answers. According to the law: The visa applicant is assumed guilty until they can prove innocence. You prove innocence by providing information. Enough information to your case 3) Visa decisions are not made before the interview The interview is the first time they ever look at your DS-160 DS-160 is the form you fill out with all your details before the interview They use key details from your DS-160 and your response to make a decision 4) Fill out your DS-160 yourself If an agent fills it out for you, make sure you know everything on it. Every response you give in the interview must match what's written on your DS-160 5) The visa interview is not a courtroom. Americans don't like hierarchy They feel uncomfortable when called Sir or Ma'am. So the majority of your interview should feel like a conversation with a work colleague Professional but conversational 6) Your story makes you different Visa officers interview 100-120 applicants per day It's very easy to get bored after asking the same questions 100 times To make it worse, a lot of applicants reply with internet responses You stand out by telling your story 7) Know your strengths before the interview Every applicant is different We all have strengths and "potential" weaknesses Strengths can be finances, academic merit, etc. Magnify those strengths in your DS-160 and responses. ![]() But don't be worried about them. If you have a gap in your DS-160 or a past denial Don't worry over it; your fear will attract denial. Instead, prepare what to say if asked about it 9) Make sure you know everything about your sponsor. - Their job title - The company they work at - How much money they make - How much money they have It might be uncomfortable to ask them. But you need to know 10) Don't say "ties" and "home country" during your interview These words are in the visa regulations that visa officers use But they aren't used in our day-to-day conversations The visa interview is meant to be a natural conversation The consola doesn't know you, so it is what is in your DS-160 and how you respond they use to judge. It will end in praise. Folukemi01: 7 Likes |

A ban from Canada does not automatically disqualify someone from getting a student visa to the USA or Australia, but it depends on why the ban was issued. Each country evaluates visa applications based on its own immigration laws, but serious red flags like fraud or misrepresentation can cause issues globally. Australia If the Canadian ban was due to fraud, deception, or criminality, Australia may deny the visa under "character grounds." U.S The U.S. visa process includes security and background checks. If the Canada ban was due to something serious like immigration fraud, misrepresentation, or criminal history, it may show up in global databases or during interviews. Your friend must answer truthfully. Lying can cause a permanent U.S. ban. There is still a possibility for him to be granted an F1 visa. JaneCedars: |

Both universities are good. However, you should consider the tuition fee, not just the graduate assistantship only; the tuition fee will enable you to determine the financial involvement that will be sufficient for you and your family. More importantly, please look at career progression which of the programs align with your career.
