Throwback:Gold-Spot and Limca were originally owned by Indians. When Coca-Cola returned to the Indian market, they bought over the Limca and Goldspot company and later phased them out to make space for the relaunching of Fanta in India. I suppose that this move took time to tickle down to Nigeria as well. I guess it eventually did. 35 Likes 1 Share |

They need to remaster all these old songs or give the current popular artistes the rights to the song for remix or sampling. Some of the music of that time was great but the production and engineering was not at par with international standards. The music videos were also shitty. It will be nice of they have right to the masters or the music reproduced and remastered. IjebuWarrior:Must you take the bait from trolls? One of the member, Zeal is an Igbo guy. The other one, Shifi is Urhobo/Delta and one Yoruba. It's not a Yoruba group although they were formed in Akure. 9 Likes 1 Share |

samuk:Crafty selective amnesia you conjured up there. Firstly you didn't mention the Bini expedition that lasted only 50 hours. The "great bini" were fighting with the stench of corpse while the Aros fought gallantly. Even a neighbouring Enuani fought. Did they also have a standing army? How was Bini "a great empire" if they could be defeated so so easily that it was only the stench of human sacrifices that kept the victory longer than 24 hours? At a time when groups like Aros were making the British get modern reinforcements. Another selective memory. Maj. Kaduna was the major head of the coup... and again. So, all the destructive policies before and after the coupé after 5 decades, none was destructive... Or you people as usual would look for anything whether real or otherwise to blame the Igbo man for? |

clefstone:Olaudah never mentioned "Empire" but rather a "district of Benin". We can say it's semantics, but still, then the areas were known as "districts". All the recorded wars of Bini both with the British and during the Biafran wars ended super quickly. |

Igboid: LOL. You really came hard on the Bini immigrants. Well, in context, "great" Bini fought the British with the stench of corpse and pushed their women to fight with pebbles for only 50 hours in total before it was burnt to the floor. Enuani on the other hands fought for years. In the SE, apart from so many resistance, the fragmented small Arochukwu fought a full blown war with an empire with great resistance that the British had to reinforce again with more firepower and army. So, if a "great kingdom" was crushed by a few criminal unskilled weak white men for a few days, how can you have pride coming from such a place when your own people were even able to put up a harder resistance. As for Aboh and Ukwuani, I feel you have to exempt the Ndosumili people (Aboh aside). The euphoria of Ukwuani paying tax to Bini is not held so much with servient relish is not as strong within Ndosumili as it is with Ukwuani. It's a shame, Aboh is suppose to compete with Onitsha and Asaba, but today, it's only but a sleepy hamlet, despite its strategic location. |

RilFavour:It seems it's only in Nigeria people use ethnicity as a political party like APC and PDP where you go in and out based on convenience. Ethnicity doesn't work the way you describe where you go "Under" another linguistically (or other measures) distinct group. Epie are not only a distinct group but are Edoid people as well. Epie are fragmented Ogua people (The elders will tell you this as well). Epie-Atissa, Engene, Degema then westward to Isoko, Urhobo are from similar lineage. 2 Likes |

Kobojunkie:Maybe you if you remove your entitled veil you could read between the lines. A parent owe you nothing beyond training you in school (In most part of the world, University might not be part of it), feed you till you are 18 or max 21 if you go to college. They do not owe you anything more. The question, should be, 1. Did the man train them in school or a vocation? 2. Was the man there when they were young? As you can see, there is need for more context. What do they mean by "leave us a legacy". What other legacies were they searching for in that context that didn't involve leaving them a property? The man was given a title for his goodness and service? The man lived a life of net positive impact, let the children follow same. They didn't say the father was a deadbeat, they were upset he didn't leave their lazy asses estates they would sell later when he is gone. Many Nigerian adult children are entitled bums still crying for food in momas house in their 20s and 30s. In Europe and America, by 18 you are already in the streets on your own finding your path in life. Lazy entitled youths! |

Kobojunkie: The man died a poor village tailor and farmer, what were the children expecting? The same book showed that the man was a very selfless man who served the community till death despite his lack of money. I know this community, man men there are super rich who die leaving Estates for the children and this was possibly what the children expected from a poor tailor. |
![]() |
Munzy14: I do not agree. The children are truly stupid and entitled. If you know that community, many of the men that age were truly very rich who died leaving estates, so they were expecting their father to do the same. The father was just a village tailor and farmer. They also verified that he served his community with all his heart and was selfless even though he wasn't rich. Do you expect a tailor to leave estates behind like his peers? |

ah. Today's Igala langauge is marginally intelligible with Yoruba. They probably come from same proto-language. Interestingly also, Igala and Benin seem to be the buffer zone or centre between Yoruba and Igbo. They have an element of both. 4 Likes 1 Share |

diadem10:What do you mean your language is not your root? Language says more about your root and history than any thing. Language is a bundle of your roots, history, battles and war expressed via sounds. Do you mean Yoruba language does not define Yoruba people. When the name of your language is literarily the name of your people. Igbos speak Igbo. Yorubas speak Yoruba but the language is not the people? Guy please don't disappoint people with any iota of sense. If Yoruba language is for Yorubas and Igbo language is for Igbos why are you contesting that Ógu/Egun should not define Egun people? As per language classification. It is NOT an OPINION that Ógu is not a Yoruba language nor even close, it's a SCIENTIFIC fact. It is possible that Ijebu and Ilaje could have an ógu sound, it shows past and present relationship which is a fact with all neighbouring languages. They can be mutually influential. However, by fact and not by folklore of a earth bound, heaven evicted creature who layed eggs all by himself to father children singlehandedly. Ógu do not speak a close language to Yoruba neither do they identify as Yorubas. |

Christistruth00:Bruv, stop misinforming yourself. Yoruba is not a Kwa language There exist NO Kwa language in Nigeria. These are mostly, Togo, Ghana and Ivory coast. Ogu/Egun is a Fon-Gbe language and Yoruba cannot and is not a Gbe language. Yoruba is more related to Edoids and Igbo languages than the distant Ogu, which is basically a Fon language. Some Igbo say they are from Israel, all these are not tied to written records nor archaeology. Secondly, people like Ijebu believe they are from Sudan and or somewhere afar off and do not regard themselves as Yorubas. In fact, Ijebus and Egbas sold Yorubas as slaves up until the slave trade was abolished. However, I know of recent, this loud separation is no longer as vociferous as it used to be. Even though we understand that Ijebu is a Yoruba language. Bottom-line, many Yorubas are so keen on quashing individual identity of these minority groups into their larger group and collapsing their identity for a Yoruba identity even if it means conjuring up a folklore that gears towards that goal. Ogu people however do not speak a Yoruba or yoruboid language or even a related language. Igbo and Edo languages are closer to Yoruba than Ogu. |

christistruth01:Same Oduduwa who was a Bini prince. Oduduwa story is pure folklore. No one can tell with certainty. What is certain is that the mothertongue of Ogu people is not Yoruba and not related to Yoruba in any way. They also do not see themselves as Yoruba. 1 Like |

Christistruth00:Brother, Urhobo is an Edoid language. They are related. Ogu on the other hand, IS NOT a related language in ANY way. Oduduwa that fell from the sky magically birthed a people that spoke an unrelated language. Oduduwa birthing all people in the SW is just folklore. 1 Like |

Christistruth00:Are Ogu/Egun yorubas? Even 70 years ago, Ijebu and Egba do not even identify as Yorubas. The whole people were called, "Akus" and Yoruba was just part of the Akus. Again, there is not one single proof of all these origin stories. No group can say with certainty which particular spot they originated from. Most are folklores at best. Bottom-line, Egun do not speak a language that is close or even related to Yoruba. So, how did their language just change from Yoruba to a completely strange unrelated language that is Fon/Gbe language? By the way, this documents from Kölle in the 1800 proves what I am saying about the Yoruba ethnicity. 1 Like |

huptin:Bruv, Egun is not a Yoruba or Yoruboid language in any single way. Egun is a fon language. with the dominance of Yoruba in the region it is only commonsense that they adopt some names or some filler words from Yoruba or even understand the language. Their native language is not in any single way, Yoruba. They are fon, which belongs to the Gbe language group. 5 Likes |

christistruth01:Egun or Ogu people didn't migrate to that place, that is their ancestral lands. If anything, they were pushed back during the Oyo empire expansion. Egun or Ogu people are from the great Dahomey kingdom who defeated the Oyo Empire. Due to their location, they are traditionally water people who engage in fishing, basket making etc. 1 Like |

Femifasola:You are right though. Yoruba was not the national name of people in the SW. The SW was not homogenous. They were called Akus. These Aku or Oku comprises the Yoruba and some other smaller tribes. As for Egun, their language is not close or related to Yoruba. Their language is a Gun language. Related to Fon people from Benin Republic. 19 Likes |
