For the past few days we have seen a flood of complaints about Syskay. Personally I have called all those (who I know) that know the founder, no one is aware of anything and no one has concrete info as to what happened or when this will end. This is like a knockout punch to the Nigerian webhosting industry that has suffered a lot of smaller blows. First I have to say I am in no way linked to Syskay (I have no sites hosted with them) but below are suggestions as to the way forward. Most of you are middlemen between Syskay and your clients so while you may understand to an extent the crisis going on, your clients are as clueless as the response they get when they check their site now and jam a "page not found" response from their browsers. Every day lost in this crisis is money lost for you and your clients, reputation lost too. But really you can't just seat there and watch things go bad without some damage control. Syskay is not a host service provider with a bad record, what has happened to them today could happen to anyone or any other firm (in and out of this country). I'm not here to preach Syskay or any other company, I just want to give you helpful suggestions for damage control. Leave Syskay out of this and face your clients now, compose very honest and sincere mails to them apologising for the unavoidable problem and then let them know the plans you are making. Give them timeframes for these plans. Now to the plan (the way forward). ================== If the following conditions are true for you then the solution below the conditions will work for you. 1. You have domain management access and can change nameservers 2. You have a backup of your site somewhere else If these two options are true for you then simply purchase webhosting somewhere else and point your domain's nameservers to it. Once propagation is complete, your site's backup and your site's life is almost back to normal. Once Syskay is back online you can decide to switch back to them. If I was in your position I would strongly consider going back to them once they are back online depending on how they explain what led to this issue and what they have put in place to avoid its recurrence. =================== If you find your self in the following situation below: 1. You do not have access to the domain management and cannot make any changes 2. You you made no backup You can only keep praying and hoping Syskay comes back while you start conditioning your clients' minds to be thinking of a new domain name to continue business with. If you have already sent Syskay a mail dont bother sending any more mails, you can imagine what their mailbox and tickets list would look like now. But please (biko, ejor, abeg), learn to your domains on your own (with an ICANN accredited domain registrar...dem plenty) before hosting anywhere... don't let greed blind your eyes and prevent you from seeing beyond the free domain offer by hosts (there is nothing like a free domain, the cost for domain registration is neatly embedded into the cost you pay for the hosting package but we know you hate to be told the truth especially when it involves how you are to spend money so we tell you something you want to hear...something that is neither the truth nor a lie). Please always take backups of your sites at least once a week, its as easy as loggin into your anel and clicking the "Backup" button. Backups always seem like a waste of time but you'll never know when your investment in the time you spend backing up will pay off (it almost always pays off at some point in life). ==================== For the Syskay customers who are on the shallow side of the sea and are still afloat, I don't need to emphasize the need for you to start taking preventive steps now in the event that Syskay doesn't come back early enough before their next server/collocation lease due dates and then the datacenter starts pulling the plug (I personally hope this does not happen, infact I wake up hoping to see a "syskay is back" thread here). So guys, sorry for the problems you are having now but please be there for your clients and always put them in the communication loop so they know just what's happening. Others with more tips are free to share, please keep your adverts and offers away from this thread... just share tips that will help. 3 Likes |

yamakuza:Except the scam site pulled in a really big loot, this is not likely. Scam sites come up everyday, I have not heard of a host being arrested for such if the normal process is followed. Most s report a scam site, the host (if innocent) immediately takes action to turn it down and that the end of the story in most cases except the offended produces a subpoena asking to release the client's details. A different story will be painted if the host refuses to take down a scam site in its network. So while the scam site reason is possible, its highly unlikely to be in in Syskay's case. |

It wasn't built with just the ion, it was built with people's funding. When something is built with ion, it takes time to watch it grow and you don't mind if it doesn't start making you any real money in the first 2-3 years. On the other hand when something is built with funding, the aim is profit from the start. So when you can't realize that aim you come under pressure from those funding your project to kill the business as they don't see any profits coming in. 4 Likes |

sluvy4tune: Dear nlanders the great help i have gotten from this forum is amazing thanks you allFor a transfer, two things are involved: 1. Domain transfer 2. Host transfer Domain transfer is necessary in a case where the domain was ed by the same host you are transfering from. All you need for this is to have the domain unlocked by the registrar, to have your email address as the istrative email (whois disabled) and to have the transfer auth code (EPP). This process takes about 7 days if all parties involved do their parts. Note that you cannot transfer a domain that has a lifetime of less than 3 months. Also note that you may not be allowed to transfer a domain that will be expiring within the next 7 days. Host transfer means changing hosts, which means you will be shifting your site's files to a different host (server). All you need to do this is to have a fresh backup of the site. Some host service providers are willing to make this transfer for you at no cost. sluvy4tune:Transfering is a very delicate matter and if not followed up well could just lead in desaster for the domain owner. Be very polite with the host you are transfering from. Thank them for their good service and explain the need for the transfer. Start by asking for your domain to be unlocked and any WHOIS protection on it to be disabled. Then request for the transfer code. It is at this point that some hosts may start acting funny. sluvy4tune:There are a couple of good hosts running in Nigeria here and its a lot better to use a Nigerian firm with a good online presence. I hope they have paid all the youths they sent into the streets to "preach" Mocality from shop to shop. These guys are heartless, you commit business minded people into something and a few months later you tell them 'una know sey every good thing get end, we don off'. Channel your money (wey miss road) into another line of investment entirely, something with less importance and impact to the web. |

Guys take it easy, sometimes its the kind of things you preach to these your clients when you are trying to get their money that make them want to lynch you now. Explain to your clients that a server is down and you are doing your best to get this rectified. Be honest with them and give them a reasonable timeframe as to when you think this can be resolved. Don't tell them it will be up in the next 5 minutes because we both know that's likely a lie and you just put yourselves under more pressure. Syskay has obviously been good to all of you all the while you have been with them, cut them some slack and give them some breather. Decide never to be put under pressure by your clients because their shouting from now till whenever will not reboot whatever server is dead, it will only make you panic and you take utterly wrong decisions that will end you in even worse situations. I don't know what web designers and developers are doing with shared hosting plans (with domains ed by the same provider), really. You can have all your eggs in a decent VPS you know? |

revelation2013:Since you need something to play around with and learn, give mynaijahost.com a trial. You can also look around for dirt cheap offers too. When you want to start hosting serious stuff you can look to the more established service providers (they are not as cheap). |

WebsiteGuy: WWW.MYNAJAHOST.COMTried both mynaijahost.com and manajahost.com, not opening. Maybe its my connection but I doubt that strongly. Your site is probably dead at the moment and you are promising 100% uptime for 60 days, bro go back to your drawing board. Edit: It just loaded now, so there were a few minutes/seconds on downtime already. lol don't promise what you can't give, you are not inside the server. Also correct the domain you are advertising, it should be mynaijahost.com not mynajahost.com |

It is owned by serial business killers with a lot of money to invest but not enough brains to cook up a sustainable business model. It is interesting they didn't use the usual "has been sold to OLX" approach to announce this one's death. Running very promising online businesses like sey na HYIP. We are waiting for your next "big" thing. |

You two above me surely are amazing. A service provider's service is down, its loyal customers (at least 3) complain on this thread (there is another thread in this same issue) and you think that means spoiling a business? First of, there's nothing like bad publicity. Syskay is a reputable host service provider and it is not a strange or disappointing thing for one or more of its services to experience a downtime, however it is disappointing that when its customers run into problems they are no where to be ed (except a physical office location, maybe). Clients are humans and understanding, if there is good communication between clients and service providers when there is a problem you will not see a sensible client creating threads on forums about the same issue in this way. Web2x, it has not occurred to you that Syskay is big enough to be hosting its clients' sites on more than one server and therefore you may just be on a different server from the affected one? Chidi, it has not occurred to you that a sensible host will NOT allow its flagship site share server resources with any other site? Its very 1999 to expect a host's site to be down if any of its customers' sites are down, please upgrade. 1 Like |

soloqy: But is this not their website : www.syskay.com ? The site is upMost host service providers do not host all sites on one server if they have more than one server. So their own site could be on another server (maybe dedicated to just it). |

The following, I have seen over the years on freelancing sites (none came from a Nigerian clent). 1. This is a quick and easy job and should take just a few hours if you know what you are doing. 2. I need this done asap but don't have the time... here's the pseudocode of what I want.... 3. I will not pay more than $xx, I have been burned by freelancers in the past. |

cheapsms: if first party is aggrieved, 2nd party not helping saying first party not responding.. creating unneccessary thread, then no solution than the third - endless party coming in, if afrisoft had solved this matter within 20mins they received the notice no third party would be involved and their name appearing on scam things on google will not be an issue.. NO BLAMING ANY PARTY THOUGH, THIS SHOULD BE A LESSON TO AFRISOFT TO BRACE UP ON THEIR CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP TO SAFE THEMSELVES OF THIS KIND OF MESS. in between solving this kinda of issue has nothing to do with crack or null..if you are a database programmer you can help yourself and others...the SPC component is not worth the effort of crack or hack....component is now already on third party database even afrisoft need a clearance to do anything.. NO TIME DISPLAYING TALENTS PEOPLE IN THE SAME LINE WE ARE TALKING FROM UNDERSTAND HOW POSSIBLE TO HELP THE MAN WITHOUT AFRISOFT.......If all that needs to be done in this whole thing is changing some DB data, its still a crack if you are not permitted to do it. ![]() |

Different strokes for different folks, I have built my lifestyle around NP++ and my custom-made dark and soft environment. I try new editors to see if they can offer something better for me. Sadly they don't offer a better experience. I do not intend to change lifestyle for an editor, I will use an editor that already fits my present style.

mdsocks: so what do you call the scrolling header??Some flash-like effects can be replicated using Javascript or jQuery. The difference is known when you right-click on the effect. If its a flash object it will be in a flash player and when you right-click the effect you will see the Flash player context menu. In the case of this site it's all jQuery. Turn off Javascript and refresh the site and you will get the drift. It however shows the futility and folly of man for the OP to leave the visual issue at hand and burn energy on the technology behind which no one sees or should be bothered about. |
