Abeg, you guys should just stop all these degree and class of degree talk already. It's annoying! After putting all effort to graduate well and be distinguished, up till now 2.1 has not fetched any good job.

Bact then, I have this female friend from another dept., on the verge of 3rd class. I had to start studying with her so she could be motivated. She finally graduated with a low 2.2 and now she is working. Her uncle is a minister, and now "she dey hardly pick my call again sef".

I know of another mate who graduated with a 3rd class, but now working with a big oil company(I dunno know her position sha).

No by 2.1 or 1st class o(but then whatever that is worth doing at all is worth doing well - one of my mantras).


I made a decision not to "struggle" for job again after I almost lost my life last year, when going for an aptitude test in Lagos from Abuja(EY).

Robbers and other people with bad intentions go on a mission and come back successfully, why should my life be endanger when I had not evil intention, but was only trying to take advantage of an opportunity that would better my life.

I have always gone an extra mile just to be outstanding in all that I do. Right now, I think it's high time God should please proove himself. I have surrendered on to him because, right now, it seems my strength can't help me no more.

God will not fail u, but be sure to be really 'clean' to avoid being ignored by God. Also, look inward too. They are many with God-given potentials to be CEOs yet they are looking for N10,000 month end salary jobs. It could even be a gift that will place u in life-my personal experience.

I finished with 2.2 and am happy with my work today. A big thanks to God Almighty for his help, heading my department as supervisor, OK to me than seating at home. Baba God dalu, and many praises onto ur name.

I'll never advise any student in any university to disregard his studies and say "na God" or "na by connection" if you graduate. Of course you can still make it to the top inspite of your class of degree. But if you're looking for a white collar job in a multi-national and you have anything less than a 2:1, you're going to be a very frustrated person in the modern labour market climate. The overwhelming majority of those companies won't even shortlist you in any open recruitment process. I was a lazy ar.se student and truant in an unforgiving Federal University and I know that 2:2 degree I finished with has been a huge obstacle in many opportunities. Immense obstacle. Even today, though things are a bit better, I still look back with regrets and I'm still paying for those mistakes I made in school.

We have a lot of 2.2 graduates working in various Buisness unit of uac. However, 1st class and 2.1 are strictly for Mgt Trainees.

Well my boss is a 2.2 graduate from Unilag, she currently heads the finance department of an oil and gas company filled with first class and 2.1 graduates. To make things more interesting, she didn't even study anything related to finance in school, she studied Estate management but she didn't let that deter her. she has worked in a couple of multinational companies at the top level with her so called "2.2" certificate and she is still in her thirties.

So OP stop looking down on yourself because you didn't make a 2.1 or first class, there are thousand more 2.2 graduates excelling in their field. You just strive to be the best and give your 101% whenever you are given the chance.

All i see on this thread is reference. Nobody says "i" graduated with 2:2 or 3rd class and today i'm gainfually employed. Stop making reference and talk abt urself.

I graduated with a CGPA of 3.49. Too bad. I am a pen artist and i own a record label and i make good money. If u gat the potentials, there ain't time to go about with khaki envelopes looking for who to employ you for a meagre salary.

This issue about who gets a 2.1 or first class is not really an issue to ponder about. The Nigeria of today doesnot believe in meritocracy but mediocrity; that's why you see people with WASSCE contesting for presidential position when a first class or distinction graduate is struggling to survive.

I am saying this because am a living witness. The last concluded DSSC 23 selection Board of the Nigerian Army was an eye-opener. I graduated with a distinction in ancy coupled with my qualification as an ACA;I decided to apply to the finance corp.

Three weeks later, the final list came out and my name was missing. To my greatest surprise, a friend of mine who graduated with a Lower Credit without an additional qualification was shortlisted for the same corp.in fact, he was number one from his state.

It was that moment I understood the power of godfatherism (the only way and the surest way)

The Job wasn't coming as fast as I wanted yet my age and grade wouldn't qualify me for the desired job so I created a job and employed myself....

what a brilliant CGPA,close to 2-1

A friend personally taught me till i finished with a 2.1
When his results came out, he made a 2.2
But he didn't spend up to an hour looking for a job while my 2.1 is yet to fetch me one

Just stand out
Forget the grade.
His result was going to weigh him down at first but i encouraged him. I know the fire he was carrying and was never surprised he only spent 2weeks without work in his post graduation life. As in, he had to ask that he rest for 2weeks after POP before resuming properly.
All you need is God.
