Ecowas did the same in Sierra Leone way back in 1998 and it succeeded within days. During Buhari's tenure, they did the same when the then-president of Gambia lost election and he refused to vacate office. His soldiers refused to fight and ECOWAS forces didn't have to fight at the end, etc.
