Yes. You need a valid USA visa to through US on your way to Canada.
I will advise you to abort mission and use another route like Lagos-Amsterdam-Canada with KLM if you do not have a valid USA visa on your port, this is because ICE is not smiling now and can pounce on you at the port of entry to detain you or even send you to El Salvador prison, with the MAGA craziness going on in America.
He will not be allowed to board the flight with a valid entry permit into USA

Seems like conservatives would have slashed overall PR ission to 200,000 to 250,000 annually and linking PR ission to housing availability in canada,if there is unavailability of housing more cuts on PR issions and this means decreasing economic migration, won't favour any category in the pool with 200k PR target, and TWP only to address labour shortages like agriculture and jobs that Canadians won't do,while Liberal intends to stabilise PR ission to less than 1% of the population and priorities on those already in Canada for PR, increasing francophone ission to 12% of PR issions by 2029 .
It appears political parties mattered less in this election. MArk Carney was voted in amid liberal's low standing . Mark Carney is more conservative than liberal. Let's look out for the mandate letters and get a clearer picture of his immigration plan.

The thing about many lawyers, agents, even IRCC recognized representatives is that they have no skin in the game and they benefit from scenarios where you are desperate and rely on them heavily for advice!
I'm struggling to understand his rationale and would strongly advise you get a second legal opinion if you feel you need legal advice.
Most people here suggested to come clean and send a webform to explain the missing WE from past applications...someone even said he made the same error but scaled through.
How does the lawyer propose you address the issue in a subsequent PR application?
Regarding the options, you know that if you marry your baby mama or even claim to be common law, you'll still apply for PR and have to provide your 10 year personal history. Ask a cross section of the refugee gang how things are going for them. Every filing and appeal costs money, can last many years and weighs on your mental health. Even if you reapply using 1 yr NYSC, what will you do about the missing WE which was why you withdrew your previous application? You would either leave it out again and be silent or include it and explain the previous ommission, which is what a webform would have done.
Also....check your CRS again. You have 2 degrees....with Canadian education and Canadian work experience of 2 or 3 years - even without the NYSC which people have shared works, you should have a very healthy CRS. Unless none of your WE (foreign and Canadian) was 1 yr continuous. Have you read through the NYSC cases on NL? Why are you skeptical that it will not fly nowadays?
Anyway....please forgive my rant.......I just think these guys sometimes suggest options they wouldn't take if it were their personal application.
Life is a risk. Sometimes just follow your guts. Regarding IRCC I received ITA on November 2020. Cut off score was 472 but my CRS was 481. My application was approved after 14 months (post covid delay) and I landed in Canada in May 2022 and resumed work same month.
However, my girlfriend was still back home. She applied for a TRV in May 2022 and visited me in Toronto in July 2022. People advised us to get married and go through the spouse sponsorship application. I wasn’t comfortable with it as she only came to visit and it didn’t go down well with me. We booked consultation with an immigration lawyer (kubeir ) and he made it clear that she didn’t stand a chance with express entry even if she aced the language tests because the cutoff score was high (this was July 2022). We asked about the spousal sponsorship (inland vs Outland). She had a job outside Canada and Inland was out of the way even though she had a visit visa.
I called her some months later after she had left Canada and advised her to just write ielts and have the WES evaluation done to the pool. Her CRS was 481 afterwards and we all had our minds on a potential spousal . She got an ITA out of the blue in March 2023 and became a PR at the end of 2023. I just wasn’t too okay with spousal sponsorship because it felt like a long process that would take a longer time than express entry. Sometimes just do what you’re more comfortable with. It may work out fine

He's reminding Canadians about the realities of today. The priorities of USA has changed and all countries need to make the required changes to continue to thrive. The European Union , China, India, Africa and Asian countries are making adjustments with plans to move some production into USA. USA has also stopped funding WTO and USAID. Countries like Nigeria that imports cars from USA will likely see car prices go up

Even before 2018 some international students that came to Canada to study after pqwp expired are unable to transition to PR and you can still wonder why,at that time PR slots are lower than now including PNP slots..
They are reducing temporary residents in canada for those already in Canada to transition to PR though numbers are huge and reduce housing shortage.
After next election they are likely to continue to reign on temporary and permanent residents coming into the country and adjust PR particularly PNP slots..and in future a reform may be introduced to diversify international students mission targeting to reduce ission of international students majority coming from one country alone which is India taking over 41% of overall international student mission.
The cuts on PNP PR slots is political, it is only to punish provinces not taken share of asylum seekers that came to ontario and quebec to ease pressure on the two provinces..
As for express entry, they are continuing to consider in canada applicants as priority in all categories of draws, except French proficiency draws.
The number of TR's in Canada still outnumbers the number of annual PR slots by multiple folds. In UK TRs come in and leave after a few years but it hasn't been so with Canada

Finding job even a survival job in Canada is extremely challenging now, and even Uber is no longer as profitable due to too many drivers and reduced patronage. Many new arrivals silently endure the struggle nd pain because speaking out is often seen as a sign of failure, while those still hoping to move to Canada may perceive it as discouragement
The best one can do is to at least inform people so they can manage their expectations. An election is coming up within the next month or two. Both parties appear to have plans to reduce immigration (particularly temporary residents - students/post-graduate work permit holders). This policy will affect many students who moved to Canada in 2022/2023/2024 and are unable to transition to PR at the expiration of their work permits. Having a strategy is very important right now else the Canadian system will just suck an immigrant’s money and leave them stranded.

Congratulation on pr approval but my advice to you guys is not to underestimate the job situation in canada becos it extremely critical now nd highly competitive as majority newcomers are struggling to found even survival jobs are no longer easy pls hold ur pof so u have something to fall back on while u keep searching for job nd hoping for the best.
2019-2022 was a better time to move to Canada than 2025. The next best time is probably in the future. Today March 1, 2025 is not the best time to make the move except you have someone willing to house you for as long as possible. I became a PR in 2022 and I feared the job market as a result opted to get a job before arriving in Canada. Today things are a lot more challenging as the country accepted way too many immigrants than the infrastructure on ground can manage. They are trying to clear the mess but it will still take another couple of months or a year for things to get better. I also won't advice anyone to consider immigrating via student route right now except they've got a lot of money. A good percentage of international students/work permit holders will not be able to transition to PR. PR slots have been lowered and the number of international students/work permit holders is way too high.

Honestly, I don’t think I can learn French at this point due to work and very busy schedule. And I can’t risk writing another IELTS. What are my chances with NOC 72410, I have about 5 years working experience in the NOC but it requires a trade certificate which I don’t have because I am currently not in Canada . Is that a problem and do you think I can get a nomination with my CRS score 360 and having an experience in a skilled trade ?
Another question is can I for FSW with the NOC 72410 or I have to under Federal Trade Skill program
Lots of information and data available online to aid in your decision making process. Is your field among the list of fields eligible for targeted draws ? Is your CR Score above 510 ? Will having a good score in French move your score above 500 ? No one can answer these except you

nice post but to correct "people don't look to profit off others" they look for next means of survival. The way you got a good job, the man offering you room for 800 probably has a mortgage of 3k to pay and does not or was not lucky to get a good job as you did. You get it?
I could look at it from your perspective but because of the people involved I don’t think it applies. It wasn’t all that convenient when I use to house them in Lagos while earning naira and they were earning a stronger currency. Since I didn’t ask them to be paid I didn’t expect same from them. Nevertheless I felt better paying for a spot on air bnb where professionalism & comfort will be assured.

Hi to you both. I hear people keep complaining about Canada. The truth is that it depends on your situation in life, being married/single/kids/qualification.
But I will tell you that it depends on your mindset. An abundance mindset and trust in GOD is paramount. For me, I prayed for grace and favour and equipped myself before coming here. I was a chartered ant. I never did any menial job or went back to school because I was already equipped. I got a job in less than 3 months and to be honest, my life in Nigeria is at par with here. I have made up my mind that even if I’m in Afghanistan, I will thrive.
Yes it’s expensive but if you are frugal, cutting your cloth to your size. It will work out well. You can even survive on one good job. People make it seem like without 2 jobs, you will die or that you must do menial jobs. All the people that I know started as professionals as well. Your circle matters as well.
Know your why and surrender to GOD, the master planner. He will lead you. The sky is your starting point. I wish you the best.
I'll also add that the skills/strategies required to thrive in Nigeria is quite different from what is required to thrive in Canada. People have different reasons for moving to Canada and the hardship people face at first is usually compounded by lack of understanding of the system. No amount of preparation may prepare you for some of the things you'll encounter but if you remain strong, you'll thrive.
When I moved here in 2022 my biggest fear was the job market hence I got a job in my field before landing. Close to my travel date, I found it hard finding anyone to accommodate me for the first two weeks. Friends in Canada who stayed at my apartment in Lagos each time they visited kept telling me how their house was full and all. I didn't understand because in Nigeria I accommodate people (friend of brother, friend of friend, sibling of friend...) hence I didn't think in the line of air bnb. When I arrived I noticed how heavily indebted people were. Even the whole "I bought a house" is different from home purchase in Nigeria as I knew it. Some people buy a house via mortgage and rent out all spare rooms. That was something new to me. Same people whose homes were full later offered me spot in their home for $800 or $1000 a month when they noticed that I actually had a job in Canada. Its a brutal system where people look to profit off others irrespective of the situation. I remained strong, stayed in that air bnb, built my credit and eventually moved into a condo. The rental market was very competitive then and nobody was willing to rent to me as a newcomer with no credit history. Hence I advice people to not be too quick to re-connect with old foes or make friends. After sometime, newcomers will understand the system and find it easier to thrive

majority of the students in diploma mills doing diploma programs cant attain the 500 plus CRS. Thats what many are protesting. Sigh
The point here is stability and a level playing field. I knew I needed 475 points to compete. I eventually got more points by maxing my language test scores and completing 3 years of software development work at a reputable organization. A friend of mine told me about express entry in 2016 and he waited three years to complete three years of work experience at Coca-Cola Lagos before writing IELTS and ing the pool. Someone I know enrolled in UniLag to complete postgraduate studies while working at KPMG to get the points he needed before ing the pool in 2019 also. Shortcut via diploma mills was not a norm in the first few years of reformed express entry (2015-2020). Today agents are cashing out selling all kinds of packages to people ( some of which are fraudulent) all thanks to the liberal government. People are also doing all sorts of things (diploma mills, asylum, visitor visa ) to move to Canada.

Exactly. They overdid it basically mes all the positives. There are a lot of solid candidates around with world with 450-480 points but the sole fact that CEC candidates get more points from schooling in Canada and possessing work experience within Canada keeps them out.

Hello
Please I am a software engineer. I have been doing this for 4 years now. my ielts score is not good enough. i have written ielts like 3 times and have not yet gotten the score i want to even meet the past cut off marks. I am thinking of doing a skilled trade for one year (getting a job in a skilled trade and practicing for 1 year) to i can stand a chance to be selected in the skills trade draw. i dont know how to go about this. i dont know what skilled trade to do that would be easy for me to just do for one year to add it as a work experience. i currently work remote as a software engineer so i believe i would cope. Please can anyone help me out with ideas of skilled trade i would be able to do here to enable me get the work experience i need. I am not cut out to learn french to boast my score because i might not have the will to pull through the classes.
Thanks
How frequently are these trades draw ? Nothing is predictable with IRCC right now. The citizens are angry. Even recent PRs like me are also angry. In the past there was a threshold and a clear pathway which encouraged me to invest my money and my time. Today the liberal government has messed up the immigration system. They came up with policies that have led to the flooding of the pool with all kinds of candidates from India and Pakistan who cannot speak english but hold level 10 english certificates and Canadian education + work experience points garnered from quack colleges run by indians in Canada. I know the amount of work I put in to get the points I got to compete and get an ITA in 2020. Today people who put in similar effort and get a 481 are not considered competitive anymore.

Canada government is carrying out the plans to reduce the number of permanent resident coming to canada through express entry PR pathway and also reducing the number of temporary residents arrivals, because of pressure on housing and to lower immigration level..
As of now only Canadian experience class, province nominee program majority of these candidates are already in Canada and French language proficiency draws which is priority is regular in express entry..
And will adjust overall immigration level plan for 2025 to 2027 for permanent residents issions, which will also now include number of temporary resident intake for 2025 to 2027,new immigration level plan will be released this fall 2024.
Even without reducing the PR target numbers a sizeable number of students will have to do more to be able to land a PR

If you put millions of black monkeys there, they will turn it to okitipupa in a matter of years.
The black Nigerians I know in Canada are pretty much well behaved although they all have one or two things in common:
1. Moved to Canada in the last 10-15 years
2. The ones who moved here before 2019 came in on a study visa to pursue a masters degree in a university. 2019 and beyond went in via express entry. They were pretty much young (below 30) masters degree holders with professional jobs in Nigeria before moving (consulting, banking, tech, finance...). They are seating well within the Canadian middle income bracket and doing okay.
Between 2022 and now there have been a lot of student migrants attending colleges and doing different things to survive. Time will tell but for now I hear people complaining about Indians and not about blacks.

The harm these agents cause... Imagine over a year... And it's visit visa.
These are only the ones we've heard o.
My people learn to love reading, read and research. The only reason you should be using agents are if they're immigration consultants or you lead a busy lifestyle and it's a trustworthy person whom you'll follow bumper to fender and will give you unencumbered access to your .
Most of these people are heartless and are only after their own profit.
Was talking with a friend, telling him express entry and he was just shouting hard, hard... saw him with one agent in the area, and when I told him(the agent) I'd done my application myself and permanent residency for that matter, he stopped me from participating in the conversation. Only heaven knows the lies he has sold to my friend.
My people, research and be patient! We want fast fast, let me be in Canada after this Sunday's service. It doesn't work that way.
Just watch that agent will tell you guys their usual, that you can convert visitor visa to work permit when you land.
Reading through comments on this topic gives me a clearer picture on why many of our people struggle when they get to canada while a few flourish and flourish. Nigerians can be very lawless and don't like to follow due process. Agents are popular because people are looking for a short cut. Agents will continue to prey on them.

please we need advice on the next thing to do concerning an issue about a Canadian visa. A nigerian travel agent assisted us to apply for a visa and told my brother that it was an internship. to cut the long story short we never heard anything from the canadian visa center after biometrics for over 1yr. so we asked the agent to cancel the application. right now hes not talking to us. we re trying to apply for a canadian tourist visa and the agent is not saying anything to us because we need the previous details he used for the other application. what do we do now? how do we get the information's he used previously? please advice pls on how to retrieve my brothers information so we can go ahead to apply again.
thanks
Based on your post it appears both you and the agent don't know what you're doing.
Since this wall is for permanent residency application via express entry I'm not sure visit visa responses will be well detailed here. But Canada and other western countries are not necessarily middle men countries like Nigeria where you use an agent for virtually everything. Here people live everyday trying to figure out a way around there issues and visa application is one of the easiest things to do without the need of a middle agent

Unfortunately we used an agent so we don't have first hand access, only what he shows us when we visit his office or what he video/screen shots and sends to us.
We applied for Express Entry, we took the IELTS and ed. I'm the main applicant, so we used my grades and work experience for everything. We have done medicals, and Biometrics. Submitted the requested port photo size and given everything requested.
The issue now is our application when we saw it starts with V following 9 digits, and my friends in Canada are concerned that its a visitor's visa and not Express Entry which should start with EE.
We rushed to his office for him to show us the application and he opened it, but the page doesn't state anywhere whether its a visitor's application or an Express Entry application🫨
August will make it 1 year since we did biometrics, while we started the process last year April, 2023...so its officially been 1 year since we started the process.
At this point we are just praying.
I don't know what the application is based on the v-9 digits but I suspect the agent put in a visitor visa application for you/family. Express entry is one of the easiest applications to apply for if all requirements are met. Express entry application is the easiest thing I applied for in my journey to Canada and I'm sure others will attest to it. Renting a house in canada or getting a job in the desired field is more stressful than the express entry application. A visit visa grants no right to work and the agent may be setting you up for multiple challenges in Canada

Are you really sure about that? A prosperous Nigeria would see those who built thriving businesses or head similar organisations in Nigeria being accorded higher respect than successful blacks in Europe. Chinese entrepreneurs in China are accorded higher respect than those elsewhere because their companies thrive in one of the biggest economies. So, anyone who wants to partake in it has to meet them, not those elsewhere. The same applies to Indian CEOs in India vs those in say the US/UK. A good example is the music industry: DonJazzy has greater social capital than say Jidenna (if there is a much better example, someone should please mention him/her). DonJazzy can enter any music circle in the world because of his feats in Afrobeats as he is a Don (pun unintended) in his industry. Now, compare this to when we were listening to American hip-hop artists during the early-2000s. Should Nigeria's tech industry continue to blossom and become financially/venture capital independent, Shola of PayStack would command greater social capital than say Tope Awotona.
The problem is a poor sub-Saharan Africa, which is why I long to see prosperous countries on the continent.
The conversation has been very interesting and data-driven. Thanks to Mr IbeOkehie. Even though we disagree on a few issues. Thanks too to Mr Tshtsh. Mr Ibe, I think your animosity is largely because of the sector you attempted to break into, coupled with your ethnicity. Some ethnicities would find it hard to thrive in some sectors in Nigeria.
Its a very debatable topic lol. Irrespective of all the data out there, I prefer to attain success in my home country than in any other country. Tony and Jim built a bank in the largest black nation. I don't think the achievement of an African appointee in EU dwarfs their achievement. I know an ex-IFC/WBG employee who was always lobbying to serve as an appointee in Nigeria. He was earning a tax free income in Washington with a number of benefits here and there. I asked him why he was so interested in an appointment in Nigeria. He told me you have to show that you're valuable back in your home country to be able to rise within the world bank group. Okonjo Iweala returned to the WBG in a higher capacity after serving in Nigeria as minister (2003-2007). Ali Pate resigned as CEO-designate of GAVI to take up an appointment in Tinubu's government. Chikwe became a Deputy-DG at the World health Organization after his stint at the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control. The current DG-of World Health Organization was a health minister in Ethiopia. One of the serving UN under-secretary generals was a cabinet member back in Buhari's government. The current chief economist of AFREXIM bank served at the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS). I can go on and on even though many see their home country as hell. The current exchange rate seems to mask every other thing but I wouldn't like to be in any environment that limits what I'm able to do or achieve. Nigeria has its own limitations but home advantage is underrated

Kwarteng and Liz Truss got booted out because their Ill fated and timed policy drew public anger.
Nothing to do with his race. He served the shortest lived prime minister and it was only normal for her govt to sink just under three months (Kwarteng was in that boat too)
So again, has very little to do with racism.
Thiam got into issues with that South Indian fellow who was out to be a thorn in his flesh (Khan)
If Thiam was a conventional Nigerian, Khan's body would have been floating somewhere in the Danube river. He did not resign because of fraud, he resigned because of the espionage issue AFTER Khan was forced out and he moved across the street to UBS...
Small racism was inside Thiam matter I won't lie to you, but that did not stop Thiam from having a legacy in the bank and in the financial circles in Europe.
Rishi Sunak is being hammered left and right because the Conservative policy (to which Kwarteng is part of) are not working.

Of course there is a glass ceiling for all ethnicities, not just black people. This glass ceiling is because you don't fit the prototype
A white cracker head in Kentucky is already at a disadvantage compared to a black person who went to all the elite schools in America.
Obama was a black man, but fit into that "prototype" (top class education et al) and became president TWICE...
What ceiling is higher than the POTUS?
This is a very interesting discussion and I see your perspective and see SOME merit to it, but still....
I guarantee you that two to three generations fron now, you will see more descendants of Nigerians in high places, especially when WE RECOGNISE the importance of putting them through the best education and connections through and through
Kwasi Kwarteng became the first chancellor of the exchequer and he is a Cambridge/Eton Baby
Tidjane Thiam led Credit Suisse, one of the biggest banks on planet earth out of the woods and back to winning ways.
Where Thiam can enter, Wigwe plus Ovia plus Emefiele sef can only dream about it
He went to the best schools in Europe
just saying sha
Its all good. Even though I don't want to delve into British politics as I've not lived there in the last 10 years. I watched how Kwasi Kwarteng was humiliated and fired after 30 - 40 days in office. The British media humiliated him and blamed him for their economic woes the UK faced. Even his predecessor originally from Iraq managed to spend up to three months in office but it looked like they could not even tolerate him. Tidjane Thiam is an outlier who was a shining star at Mckinsey. At the end Thaim also ran into some kind of investigation at Credit Suisse which led to his early resignation. Here and there you'll find pockets of Africans in these top positions but with what I saw some blacks achieve in South Africa and Nigeria, I think a black man who is capable of making it to the top will be able to achieve more in their home ground. Just my opinion though.

This is a very interesting read...
Seems like we have had one or two engagements on twitter before
anyways that aside, this is my perspective sha
Just like you, I'll say that the biggest pro, despite the many ugly sides to spending your formative years in Nigeria is that you learn GRATITUDE and appreciate more, what the west has to offer.
A second generation American or Brit will see the country as his country (which is the norm and expected) and only see the issues and conplain a lot, entitlement may even creep in
but for us that came from literal "hell fire" , we appreciate more what is available in the west and work with it.
You made a reference about the rich in Nigeria and how people think they are criminals.
My fellow Nigerian, take it from me, most "rich" fellows in Nigeria are "criminals" or lemme use a more polite word, rent seekers.
The Nigerian economy is what you call a near imperfect economy, in an economic sense, that means that outlandish economic returns are very much possible, especially when you throw in cronyism and weak institutions in the mix.....
That explains how soneone can out of the blues blow, in Nigeria and say China, than in the west, because as an economy nears perfection, the returns normalise, and the returns tend closer to zero as the economy nears perfection (there is no 100% perfect economy sha, because that will mean zero returns)
My point is the supposed elite class claiming big boys in Nigeria, operating in a space where the economy nears the perfection line exposes their underbelly, so I understand WHY they will think that rich Nigerians are crooks (not all but most) and I side them on that one.
The undertone as to why I say that my descendants have minimum interaction with Nigeria is because the dominant cultural mentality in that space is antithetical to common sense and proper development...
to put it more mildly, I don't agree with it and to be frank that is the major motivation for escaping the country
I strongly believe that burning myself out and sending them to the best schools here like Winchester Eton or one fancy school in Switzerland that i used to ire will be better for them in the long run, as they will make global connections which will better position them for great things in the west , which Nigeria cannot offer let's be frank.
I see my sons as a Kwasi Kwarteng, Sajid Javid, Sunak or Chan...... or even Tidjane Thiam
that's the vision for them....
but for now they are all dreams and that's what I work towards day and night everyday.
the above answers your question about social capital. Going to Eton or Winchester gives you social capital that BIS or Turkish international cannot give.
on a final note, you made mention of the rat race and the debt accumulation that they have.
I wonder why a typical Nigerian who grew up in Nigeria have this kind of antagonist mentality towards debt.
Debt is the number one wealth building tool and has been what have pulled hundreds of millions of folks across the western world and even China out of poverty.
Our aversion to debt is the reason why Africa will remain poor and wretched, because just like a knife that is a good tool, but could kill as well, debt is the same
will you say cos knife can kill, I won't use it ?
On a final note, I can tell that you are a very intelligent person who has some balance.
I wish you the very best out there mehn.
Debt is a double edged sword (good debt/bad debt). One rule I live by is to avoid interest payments where necessary. A phone debt, credit card debt, card debt and other consumer debts are bad debts IMO and makes people rate their finances much higher than it is. If a person's debt is higher than their assets then they are in negative.
i don't believe western economies are anything near perfect but rather rigged against most people. Many of the business practices in USA and Canada will be classified as corrupt practices in most Asian countries. For instance company valuation methods used in negotiating company M&A.
At the end of it all humans will continue to do what is in their best interest. I understand your points though but I still believe emerging economies still offer some form of first mover advantages in undeveloped sectors.

This is ignorant, sorry to say, you seem to be amongs the small % of those who have social and economic disconnect with Nigeria.
There are people like you abroad who think the vast majority of Nigerians are dying. Yes it is though. Corruption is high, this is everywhere. I have moved my family back to Nigeria years ago.I cam to the Uk as a young man in 2000.I have friends in PH who visit the UK like no mans Biz.I also have friends on N100k a month salary in same PH.I can also tell you this free of charge. Over the past 24 years I have seen people pay off thier mortgage, then sell the house and move into Old people's home and no one visits them sometimes in a whole year. If you have lived abroad for a very long time say like 25 years and you are still under 50, you thinking will def be different, You say I am selling Nigeria to ignorant people, So you think people who do not travel are ignorant??(Bross no dey bragg just cos God butter your bread you manage enter Abroad you go call a whole people wey dey try Ignorant cos lass lass nah there U from) I think right there you just redefined SELLING lol I don't have to sell nothing as a matter of fact stay abroad for ever die there get buried there, how does that affect the price of garri o n the street?Bros the reality on ground in Nigeria as I have found is this, NO ONE CARES!
You even tried to respond to him. I see many like him in Canada who think Canada is heaven and continue to share data about Nigeria's poverty and all that. The society has wired them to think the rat ace life they live is paradise. There are Nigerians doing amazingly well in Nigeria and there are those struggling to get by. As a person I make decisions based on what works for me not based on some data. Some of them return to Nigeria on wheel chair in old age and live a miserable life after living the rat race life abroad

80% of the 10 top earning CEOs of quoted companies in Nigeria are FOREIGNERS, many Asian, not even Europeans.
The top earning CEO of a quoted company in Nigeria is the that of Dangote Cement, he's NOT a Nigerian. His TOTAL COMPENSATION is $600K per year.
Dude, I know TWO Nigerian EMPLOYEE doctors in my small city here that earn more than that. They may not be CEOs but they're paid higher than the highest earning CEO in Nigeria...and that CEO is not even Nigerian!
A White man can kill you in Nigeria and NOTHING will happen and you know it. For YOU in particular, the only reason it will even raise dust is that you're likely carrying a Western port.
Please stop ✋️ Enough abeg.
Good Luck to Nigerians
We've met many like you in USA who don't know anything about PPP. Money is what it can do for you. Numbers means nothing. A single person earning the equivalent of $1,000 a month in Nigeria can save $600 and still live comfortably in a utility-provided estate. A person Earning $3,000 a month in a small town in Virginia may just be able to afford to rent a room in someone's house. Your $600k a year neighbor cannot match the spending power or afford the lifestyle or asset portfolio of the Dangote Cement CEO or any bank CEO in Nigeria. Its people that don't know nigeria that use salaries to rate people. Bank CEO's in some of Nigeria's banks get 0.5% or 1% of PAT as bonus annually. I hear in GTBank the CEO gets 2%. Dividends also flows to them. Allowances are multiple times their salaries.
Enjoy your USA and let those who have lived a middle income life in both USA & Nigeria do what they want to do. A Dangote Cement CEO has a huge social capital and is an industry captain with probably high level of job satisfaction. We've seen successful doctors in Potomac MD still complain A with plans to setup a practice back home. Aliko Dangote is the CEO of his company. That he hired a CEO to head his cement business doesn't mean the foreign CEO is his boss. Austin Avuru is the boss of Seplat. That he hired a scottish CEO does not mean the Scottish man is his boss. Until I start to see black Nigerian immigrants heading fortune 500 coys or build unicorns in USA I will continue to maintain that a glass ceiling on blacks exist. Show me a Nigerian in USA who achieved half of what Herbert Wigwe achieved in his lifetime in USA.

Well
different people with their different philosophy
as for people like me, our kids cannot grow up, or spend their formative years in Nigeria.
There is no advantage whatsoever in doing that if you ask me.
I want my descendants to lead Fortune 500 companies and that's where the entire focus is...
you can't lead a fortune 500 company from Nigeria so...
Like you said everyone has what they want. I grew up in northern Nigeria where my parents worked in the academia. Moved to USA at age 19 and moved to UK at age 23. Returned to Nigeria after Grad school at age 25 and worked for three years (NYSC year, one year at a tech company and a little over one year in a bank). Moved to South Africa on a work permit in 2021 and moved to Canada in 2022. Growing up in Nigeria did me no harm. If anything I keep going back to Nigeria on vacation every 6 months. I understand the country and the people and I'm grateful for spending my formative years in Nigeria.
When I meet Nigerians who have lived for long in Canada and USA I even appreciate my years in Nigeria more. They are very naive. They think they are in paradise (carrying heavy debts and living the rat race) while they also Nigeria is hell . Their host society has changed their way of thinking to the point that they think every rich Nigerian is a thief.
How many Nigerian immigrants or children of Nigerian immigrants lead Fortune 500 companies today ? My guess is zero or one but most likely zero. What is the social capital of an average immigrant ? In Nigeria I worked for three years but the social capital I built is much more valuable to me than the one I have in USA or even Canada.
To each there own though

My biggest concern about leaving this country is starting a generation that will never return to their country ever again.
If you find yourself in this situation one option will be to send your children to secondary school in Nigeria and plan to move back to Nigeria before they finish secondary school. This is why I personally don't see why people in there late 30s or 40s move abroad. If you move at 25 and return by age 40 when kids are still young you may have reaped the benefits of the japa and also be in a position to reap the benefits of japada
