social media activist, Segun Awosanya, otherwise known as Segalink, has clashed with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over the failure of the anti-graft body to go after All Progressives Congress stalwart, Bola Tinubu, despite picture evidence of bullion vans laden with cash allegedly at Tinubu’s Bourdillon, Ikoyi home. Trouble started when the EFCC posted a tweet stating that it was empowered by law to investigate anyone who appeared to be living above his means. The EFCC tweeted, “Section 7(1) of the EFCC Establishment Act, 2004 gives us the power to investigate properties of any person if it appears to the commission that the person’s lifestyle and extent of the properties are not justified by his source of income.” The commission sent out the tweet amid criticism that it was raiding clubs and persecuting youths driving flashy cars. In his response, however, Segalink tweeted, “I’m sure this section only gives you an erection when it concerns Yahoo Boys and opposition politicians. While the miraculous self aggrandisers in bed with those the head of the EFCC worships are immune to investigation. Daylight bullion van exhibition of Bourdillon is justified right?” The anti-graft agency, however, defended its record, insisting that it had secured convictions of former governors and other politically exposed persons It added, “Not to toe the line of politics as you may wish but the EFCC has successfully investigated, prosecuted and secured over 1, 245 convictions between 2015 and 2019 which included two former governors, several top government functionaries both in the past and present dispensations. Applaud us. An adamant Segalink, however, posted the picture of bullion vans entering Tinubu’s home on the eve of the 2019 Presidential election. The activist, who spearheaded the #EndSARS movement, said the EFCC should take action on the bullion van incident before it would be respected by Nigerians. He tweeted, “Let me splash some colours on this to make it simpler to comprehend. Your tweet claims that all the EFCC requires to hunt down citizens is the display of wealth that can’t be justified. What justified the relocation of CBN to Asiwaju’s house on Bourdillon on the eve of election, The EFCC, however, asked Segalink to forward a petition to any of its offices on the matter. “Kindly forward your petitions to or visit any of our zonal offices or head office to submit a copy of your petition,” the EFCC said Read more here ; https://maniagist.com/2019/10/18/social-media-activist-tasks-efcc-over-bullion-van-linked-to-tinubu/

Students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) have applauded the authority of the school for monitoring students dress pattern on campus through the security department of the school. The management of the institution has been working tirelessly with the security unit curb indecent dressing, which was almost becoming a standard among students on campus. Evaluating the performance of the security team in their new role, Akin Steven, a 400-level student of Microbiology department, said the management has made the right decision and the security unit has been fair in carrying out its duties. Most students due to peer pressure exhibit indecent behaviours to probably feel big or belong to the high class on campus. So the management has actually done the right thing,” he said. A student of Mass Communication, Daramola Aderayo, said: It is a good decision on the part of the management as this inappropriate appearance had made a lot of students to fall victim of sexual abuse. It also gives some students bad name.” A 400-level student of Guidance and Counselling, Banjoko Blessing, also affirmed that the school has done a good job implementing the policy. But the security unit has not actually been doing well as they have been partial to some students. He urged the security officers to be more enforcing in carrying out their responsibilities. Aderemi Adeola from linguistic department, who also praised the management’s decision to nip the act in the bud, said it has reduced the rate at which some students especially ladies dress indecently to class. She, however, alleged that some security officials have been using that opportunity to harass students, while some are being partial at times. She gave an instance of a colleague who was harassed despite being appropriately dressed from her perspective. Senator Ike Ekweremadu, the representative of Enugu West in the Senate, has said that no constituency project will be abandoned in the district. Ekweremadu, who was reacting to allegations of abandoned projects in the constituency, said Enugu West remained ahead in of implementation of constituency projects in the country. The senator’s Special Assistant on Projects, Mr Jonathan Ivoke, said the former deputy president of the Senate, challenged any person who cared to come for a tour of the constituency to see projects which he attracted to the district. He said, “The Ogwuma rural road rehabilitation project was first included in 2017 Zonal intervention project under Sustainable Development Goals in the Presidency. Unfortunately, it was not awarded by the Presidency due to lack of funds. It was then rolled over to the 2018 budget under Ministry of Environment and awarded. The work involved is restoration of eroded surface and laying of asphalt and it is ongoing. Umuhu Owelli erosion control project is ongoing, asphalt was laid before the rains and will continue after the rains because it is also included in the 2019 budget. The Amata, Ituku erosion control project is also ongoing, some drainage work has just been done, awaiting asphalting immediately after the rains. The road project at Mgbowo attracted by Senator Ekweremadu has since been completed by the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency and commissioned. This can easily be verified from anybody from Mgbowo. He advised the media and civil society organisations to always make proper enquiries from the respective MDAs. Tracking of constituency project is a very positive development. It affords the citizens the opportunity of knowing what their representative does and how the FG MDAs carry out their statutory responsibilities. However, I want to request that visits should be made to the Directors of Projects of the various MDAs for proper inquiries on project status. I also want to appeal to communities to set in motion structures for the protection and maintenance of amenities sited in their domain,” he added.
