I will try to be brief.
I finished my youth service about two years ago and since then I have been underemployed. God in his infinite goodness gave me a dream job 2 weeks ago. The problem is that the job is a contract job with a big company which will last for about 3 to 5 years with possibility of an extension.
Today I also got news that I have been employed by my state civil service commission.
Now this is where I have a problem. The state job is secure but the salary is far below that of the contract job. The contract job's pay is about 3 times the pay of the government job but it might not last as long as the government job. I will also have opportunities of meeting many high level people and gain valuable experience while doing the contract job which might help me secure bigger jobs later.
My parents and uncles have adviced me to take the government job since there is job security and promotion but my friends and senior colleagues say I should go for the job with the multinational company because I can save up to either relocate out of the country to practice my profession or set up a business in Nigeria plus I will have good connections.
Please fam I'm confused. Every suggestion and advice is appreciated. Thank you.
Be ambitious.
Have faith.
Build your dreams.
Dont depend on the government but your ability.
Choose contract job ASAP.

I am not a BA but my employer was on overdrive in their search for BA's like 6 months ago. Depending on experience and qualifications, some of the positions were willing to pay hired candidates over 100k per year. I also know of one senior bros that works as a contractor BA. He ed his own company and charges $80 an hour. He travels a lot and some of his contracts are months long.
I would imagine that there would be lots of demands for them especially in big cities. Like a lot of professional jobs, wage would also vary depending on type of employer and location.
Thanks a lot.

SixSigma1:
It looks like becoming a Six Sigma professional is catching the interest of some people here and also because I strongly belief that becoming a Six Sigma professional is something that can help:
1. New immigrants without Canadian experience establish themselves here in Canada with less emphasis on Canadian experience;
2. Senior immigrants boost their career to the next level;
I will give some education below about how to how to become sought after Six Sigma professional in Canada.
To start with, there are 5 or 6 levels of Six Sigma professionals (depending on who you talk to). For me personally, the levels are White Belt, Yellow Belt, Green Belt, Black Belt and Master Black Belt in that order (5 levels). However, for the purpose of my write up, I will be focusing only on the Black Belt level for the following reasons:
1. The levels (White, Yellow and Green) below Black Belt are really not valued by employers because at that level you still depend on a Black Belt or a Master Black Belt for coaching and guidance in order for you to be able to add value to your employer.
2. You do not need to start your Six Sigma journey from the lowest level to become a Black Belt. You can start at the Black Belt level
3. Master Black Belt (higher than Black Belt) is useful only if you plan to become a specialist/guru in the field of Six Sigma rather than using it as a tool to boost your current career.
Now that we have gotten that out of the way, how do you become a Six Sigma Black Belt professional? There are two steps to becoming a Six Sigma Black Belt professional:
1. The first step is for you to get Six Sigma Black Belt training.
2. The second step is to complete certain number of Six Sigma Black Belt projects (typically 3 to 5 projects) that will be used for your certification.
Note that the certificate you receive after completing your training is only training completion certificate and not certification certificate. You can only get certification certificate after completing the required number of projects your certifying body expects you to complete. After the completion of your Six Sigma Black Belt training you can only claim to be Six Sigma Black Belt trained (you can not claim to be Six Sigma Black Belt certified). You can only claim to be Six Sigma Black Belt certified after you have completed the required number of projects and get certified by a qualified certifying body.
Now, how & where do you get trained and also where & how do you get certified in Canada?
The following are the possible ways to get trained and certified in CANADA. Some of them will get you trained and certified while some will only get you trained and not certified:
1. The first way is through Canadian employers that have their own in house Six Sigma program. The company will both train and certify you. This type of company will hire graduate of any discipline without prior Six Sigma Black Belt training or experience but with minimum of 5 years work experience in their current profession. They will put them through their internal training program, provide them with necessary coaching and mentoring by already certified internal or consultant Black Belts and Master Black Belts to get them certified. One of the companies I know that have this type of program is Maple Leaf Foods. In fact I just checked their website now and they have the following Six Sigma Black Belt positions available at the moment at different locations:
https://www.mapleleafcareers.com/post/11323895 https://www.mapleleafcareers.com/post/11323883 https://www.mapleleafcareers.com/post/11222534
You can also read about their Six Sigma program here: https://www.mapleleaffoods.com/career_path/six-sigma/
Note that there are also other companies that do as Maple Leaf foods but I know about Maple Leaf Foods because I have hired many Black Belts from that company after they became certified because in my view they have the best internal Six Sigma program in Canada.
2. The second way is getting training from a University or College. One of the good (if not the best) university Six Sigma program in Canada is through York University Schulich School of Business in Toronto. The university or college will only train you and give you training certificate. They will not certify you. Here is the link for York University Schulich School of Business Six Sigma program:
http://seec.schulich.yorku.ca/program/masters-certificate-in-lean-six-sigma-black-belt/
Note that some other universities and colleges in almost all the provinces in Canada also offer similar program. You need to find out by yourself.
3. The third way is getting training from some big name management consulting firms. Some of these firms offer training only without certification while some offer both training and certification. The firm I typically recommend is BMGI:
https://www.bmgi.com/za/training/lean-six-sigma-black-belt
4. The fourth one I will like to mention is ASQ. ASQ also provide training and certification. They can also provide certification only if you are already trained by somebody else. So, if you take your training through a university/college or through a consulting firm that do not offer certification, your best way of getting certified is through ASQ:
ASQ Training: https://asq.org/training/lean-six-sigma-black-belt-training-ssb
ASQ Certification: https://asq.org/cert/six-sigma-black-belt
5. Finally, online training and certification by some faceless organizations. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS. SO, PLEASE RUN AWAY FROM IT.
Out of all the options I listed above, my recommendations are in the following order:
1. The first the one I strongly recommend is the internal training and certification through an employer (the first one) for the following reasons:
I) You have internal Black Belt and Master Black Belt available to you for coaching and mentoring.
II) You will only get certified after actually proving your skills and delivering results to the company. Your result could be easily verified by already certified internal professional unlike ASQ or other external certification where they only need your manager to testify that you did a project. If your manager is not a Six Sigma professional they will sign off on what they know nothing about.
III) Internal training and certification is free of cost for you. In fact, you are getting paid salary while being trained (just like you are doing an MBA). The following statement is from Glassdoor regarding Six Sigma Black Belt salary at Maple Leaf Foods:
https://www.glassdoor.ca/Salary/Maple-Leaf-Foods-Salaries-E7047.htm
“The typical Maple Leaf Foods Six Sigma Black Belt salary is $99,141. Six Sigma Black Belt salaries at Maple Leaf Foods can range from $86,615 - $129,406. This estimate is based upon 11 Maple Leaf Foods Six Sigma Black Belt salary report(s) provided by employees or estimated based upon statistical methods.”
2. Second: University/College training plus ASQ certification
3. Third: ASQ training plus ASQ certification
4. Fourth: Management Consulting Firms training plus ASQ certification
5. Last: Management Consulting Firms training plus their certification
Thanks a lot for this beautiful post.

The job prospect for an Engineer with Lean Six Sigma certification at the minimum Black Belt level was excellent about 10-15 years ago when I ventured into it. While currently, the prospect may not be excellent but it is still VERY GOOD and I would advice you to consider it as an Engineer. Infact, that certification was what paved the way for me into management roles. My first two posts on this Nairaland platform in 2006 was about Lean Six Sigma. See the posts here:

Is it useful to non-Engineers? Especially one with general istration experience.

I have been working out change of narrative ver2.0 update. I have come to see some pictures clearer and understand that your first year is really about putting initial capital back to good use.
Your ROI as we have come to understand starts when your capital is back in your hands. In achieving that you must build on the value of your investment and not really what the market is saying. There will always be crash in pricing system and you need to see it before it happens.
The first 13weeks is 85% smooth... less of worry on car efficiency assuming its a toks vehicle (note all things being equal). starting from the 14th week efficiency of vehicle will drop 10% - 20% depending on the handler, you start to hear things like AC not cooling, oga I dey hear one sound for back leg, boss when I am in traffic, the vehicle jerks.. to accommodate this we look again at the true value of the vehicle at this stage THEN we drop rental fee again to match the true value. Sometimes you may be lucky to find those complaints in 24th week... but my brother prepare for war in the time of peace o.
So we systematically drop rental fee as car efficiency drops according to value at that point in time e.g after 26weeks what you have gotten from the vehicle is your Earned Value. so if you were to sell off at 26weeks, you do be selling off @ 50% + people taste + demand.
BRB ... i wan shake something
Nice analysis. I ire how you always try to move along with market trends.

GAZZUZZ: E-hailing business is Presently Unpredictable. As an investor, you cannot forecast with accuracy. There are too many things that could go wrong.
machine failure: Could be as a result of bad roads, human error, negligence, etc. this could set you back days, or weeks depending on the type of vehicle.
newer low mileage vehicles are often more reliable than older vehicles. A sound Drivetrain, suspension and air-conditioning are essential. Some Toks cars come with rust, some come with sludge in the engine, not every vehicle termed Toks has a good vehicle maintenence history.
In the cooler months like now, a driver can work without air-conditioning in the early hours on the morning and at night or even when it rains, but not possible in hot months driver will be axed after a few trips.
Dead cars (term used to describe a Nigerian used car with numerous problems) usually have more down time due to failure, It is best to do preventive maintenance accross all major sections of a vehicle before it is placed on Ehailing especially if it is a dead car. Eventually Every car will become a dead car on Ehailing.
Wrong type of machine: It might sound funny, but there are certain vehicles that are not suitable for the Job right from the onset, and will continue to have a lot of down time irrespective of how much you put into them. E.G peugeot 407, Nissan Primera (argue with your keybaord) There are also the Vehicles with 2.4liter engines, 3.0liter V6 and the BMW's with the 1.8liter engines, investors with such will always be jumping from 1 driver to the other.
Accidents: This could happen to any driver. one of my very good ex driver once messaged me that a door flew off a moving bus and missed him by a few inches, it got the bumper, but very mild damage. Another Owner driver on this platform has receiver a total of over N980,000 accumulated over a period of 6months From insurance due to accidents (Bad market for insurance). Depending on the gravity of the accident, and the type of insurance company you deal with, this could set you back days, weeks or months.
Fuel Scarcity: There was a time most drivers had to park their vehicles due to shortage of fuel.
Driver Failure to remit: This one is very complex. Drivers are human, and if you have ever sat behind a wheel and driver 12hrs straight only to make 13k (before fueling) you will understand the frustration in Ehailing. there are bad days and there are terrific days. There are hardworking drivers and there are lazy drivers, there are smart drivers and there are dull drivers. I will advice vehicle owners to give drivers a 1 week break every 8weeks to ensure efficiency. Since I am talking from the standpoint of an investor, I will stop here.
E-hailing policy changes: The battle for price supremacy between the major players in the game Uber/taxify has lowered weekly earnings accross board. 6-12 months ago it hovered around 35-40k weekly, presently it stands at 25-32k weekly. I honestly do not know how uber makes a profit, I get a 50per bonus every week on my app.
Lack Of drivers: Vehicle down time as a result of loosing driver keeps investment on hold until a suitable driver can be found. Some investors like my self will rather keep vehicle for 2months doing nothing unless a driver with good records is found. A good driver could also have personal health issues, and a good partner would have to wait for a reasonable time frame for him to get better.
Vehicle theft: corrolla Gang! That one even insurance will have to conduct a serious investigation to ensure there was no fowl play in the matter, it usually takes a while, but long term after a few months you might get guaranteed insured sum less necessary deductions. you might also find the car relaxing in ibadan, or kaduna after a few weeks. trackers can help secure your corrolla too, but with the way technology is moving, a tracker can be disabled without even touching it.
For now these are a few circumstances I can that make E-hailing unpredictable for an investor.
I see a lot of you calculating rental X 52 weeks.... Trust me it's more like rental X 30-35weeks the other weeks will sadly be consumed by one uncertainty or the other.
the original design for Ehailing was for vehicle owners to use in their spare time to make extra cash, what we have done in naija is to create an industry out of E-hailing, all young unemployed yuuts and underpaid Gradutes have turned Uber to the next best thing. In the beginning 2014/15/16/17 it was very profitable earnings of 50k per week (investor) was feasible with very little stress on vehicle and driver.
presently it takes a lot of out of the Box thinking (placing yellow taxi tag on top vehicle, and calling previous regular riders for offline) for drivers to make their 30k rental after fueling and still have 30k in their pockets.
there is a steady decline in earnings, and a steady surge of new vehicles and drivers coming into the market every day.
One thing about business and Nigerians is as long as we hear this particular business de move, we all jump into it. I made such a mistake too, I was buying 1 vehicle every month and some times 2 to place on Ehailing, I converted company courtesy cars to Ehailing. With time I learned the Hard way.
Ehailing Has come to stay, But with time it will be run Majorly By Vehicle Owners, and a few investors who have studied the market and provide out of the Box solutions (e.g electric/hybrid vehicles) I see a future where drivers will be on a shift/salary structure for a large entity that will own and manage it's own vehicles, Drivers will not have to search for riders, but be online for a certain number of hours in certain locations, pick and drop off riders without handling any cash, at the end of shift, take vehicle back to a designated parking lot and go home while another driver in waiting picks up same vehicle for his own shift.
I have sold a lot of my vehicles in the past weeks, and left with only 2 Vehicles now. They are really struggling too as tuesday payment has turned to Fri some times I write off their debts to ensure they don't loose hope.
Now a solution would be to further review rental, but if you look at the cost of maintaining a vehicle properly it would not be wise.
From an investors point of view Ehailing is currently a sinking ship.
The market is evolving, the market will regulate it's self, the winners in this Game are the riders, there will always be a willing driver who has not seen a good trip all day to take them to apapa, festac, agbaya, ikorodu, akute and all the Ehailing forbidden regions
Kindly do not quote the entire post.
I guess the main beneficiaries of the present e-hailing state are those driving his or her own car.
Drivers on rental packages will find it really difficult at the moment.
Investors need to be patient, smart and sometimes rugged.

Then its because you all are very hungry, lol. But seriously, its called 'hungry man' not 'hungry men'. The indomie 'hungry man' size target market for individuals who are very hungry and find it easier boiling one large pack rather than two at once or one normal one which might not be enough to satisfy the individual's level of hunger at that particular period of time.

Its not that hard to comprehend the reason behind naming it hungry man size so i don't get why some of you are offended about it. Now after all these, she's still furious with you and cant even forgive you, then i dont think you have a future with her either, she doesnt have the spirit of forgiving and that means if you make a mistake in the future, she wont forgive you. If i were u, i'd send a detailed message to her and let her know you are disappointed with her, you made a mistake just like everyone does in a relationship and she cant forgive you, tell her also that you cant have a future with a woman who has an unforgiving character. Abeg 4get about her and move one jooo. . . get another girl and be sure to treat her nicely so u dont make the same mistake twice, you cant kill urself cos of one lady. Gudluck. . .

There's nothing Africanish about it to me. The setting of the show, the costumes, the lifestyle exhibited by the contestants all look western so the show is basically crap to me. The show lacks purpose and in reality only foolish and ignorant people live a purposeless life. So everything about the show is senseless and stupid. I'd rather kiss a monkey's ass than watch that show again.

Moreover, its just like R.Kelly selling d rights of the song to 2face cuz all he did was was to erase the shaggy verse and replace it with his. So in the actual sense of it, its not a duet but rather a 'legitimate' remix of R.Kelly/shaggy song.
