Non-Teaching Staff of FUTA Protest Against Police Over Impounded Union Vehicle

of the Non-Teaching Staff of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo State, staged a peaceful protest today, expressing their dissatisfaction with the Nigeria Police over the continued impoundment of their Union vehicle.

The protesters, who carried various placards, called on the Inspector General of Police and other relevant security agencies to prevail upon the Ondo State Commissioner of Police to comply with a valid court injunction. The court had earlier ordered the Police to return and park the Union’s vehicle — a Toyota Sienna bus — at the front of the University Union’s Secretariat.

Speaking to the press during the protest, the Union Chairman, Prince Aladerotohun Adebayo, appealed directly to the Inspector General of Police to ensure justice is served by urging the Ondo State Commissioner of Police to respect the rule of law.

“We are not asking for anything outside the law. A court of competent jurisdiction has ruled on this matter. We are simply demanding that the court order be obeyed. The police should return our Union vehicle without further delay,” Prince Aderotohun Adebayo stated.

The Union reiterated that adherence to the rule of law is essential for the sustenance of democracy and justice in the country.

Israel threatens to eliminate Houthi leaders

Last week, Mohammed Sinwar who succeeded his deceased brother Yahya Sinwar as the head of Hamas, was targeted in an assassination attempt; his death has not yet been officially confirmed.

Following a series of strikes on ports in Yemen and repeated Houthi missile attacks on Israel, Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened the elimination of Houthi leaders and, for the first time, dropped a hint about the death of Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar.

Katz’s statement said, “As we have said before, if the Houthis continue to fire missiles at Israel, they will endure painful blows — and we will also target their leaders as we have done with Deif and the Sinwars in Gaza, Nasrallah in Beirut, and Haniyeh in Tehran. We will hunt down and eliminate Abd al-Malik al-Houthi in Yemen too,” he said.

The IDF killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in October. Last week, his brother, Mohammed Sinwar who succeeded him as the head of Hamas, was targeted in an assassination attempt, and his death has not yet been officially confirmed.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “There will be more. We refuse to sit idly by while the Houthis attack us. We will strike them much harder, will target their leadership and all the infrastructure that allows them to harm us.”

Netanyahu noted that Iran “provides them , guidance, and approval.”

“The Houthis will pay a hefty price, and we will defend ourselves by any means to safeguard the security of the State of Israel,” the prime minister said.

The IDF’s Arabic spokesperson, Col. Avichay Adraee, wrote on X / Twitter following the attack, saying, “He who warns is excused.”

Twice last week, after the IDF warned civilians in Yemen to evacuate following a Houthi missile attack, Israel nevertheless did not retaliate.

Houthi missiles sent Israelis to shelters last Sunday, and the IDF ordered civilians to evacuate certain areas in Yemen, but no Israeli strike followed.

Similarly, another missile attack last Wednesday morning was followed by a similar warning from Israel, but Israel’s military did not strike.

The Prime Minister’s office and the military declined to comment on why there was no retaliation.

Sources have offered several explanations, including the desire to save the expense of attacking the Houthis each time they launch missiles.

Another possible reason is to avoid footage of battles during US President Donald Trump’s Middle East visit.

t Israel-US force strikes Yemen in retaliation for Houthi attack on Israeli airport.

The Houthis have officially acknowledged the attacks, claiming both Israeli and American forces are involved.
A senior Israeli official confirmed to N12 News on Monday night that Israel is conducting t airstrikes with the United States against Houthi targets in Yemen, following Sunday’s ballistic missile attack near Ben Gurion Airport.
According to Arabic media reports cited by N12, over 30 Israeli fighter jets are participating in the strikes on the port city of Hudaydah.

The Houthis have officially acknowledged the attacks, claiming both Israeli and American forces are involved.
The Houthi missile strike injured six people and temporarily grounded flights at Israel’s main international airport.

According to an initial Israeli Air Force inquiry, the missile was likely not intercepted due to a technical malfunction in the interceptor itself.
The investigation found no issues with the detection systems or alert protocols.

Officials stressed that the incident was isolated, noting that Israel has maintained a 95% success rate in intercepting missiles launched from Yemen since the war began.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed retaliation, stating: “We have acted and will act again. There will be blows".

Israel Gives Hamas Final Deadline to Return Hostages

Operation Gideon’s Chariots – Israel poised to implement plan for conquest of Gaza if no hostage deal reached by May 16th , senior Israeli official warns.

Israel is giving Hamas an eleven-day window to reach a deal with Israel for the return of the remaining 59 hostages held captive in the Gaza Strip – or else face the total takeover of Gaza by IDF forces, a senior Israeli defense official said Monday.

Before dawn Monday, the Israeli Security Cabinet voted unanimously to approve a proposed expanded ground operation in the Gaza Strip dubbed “Operation Gideon’s Chariots.”

According to the senior Israeli official, the new operation was drafted on the basis of the Rafah Model, used by IDF forces during the occupation of the Rafah district of southern Gaza following the area’s capture in the spring of 2024.

Following the invasion of Gaza after October 7th, 2023, the IDF has largely maintained a light footprint on the ground in Gaza, temporarily seizing areas in the Strip to clear terrorist infrastructure, before withdrawing.

While the IDF maintained control over buffer zones on the periphery of the Gaza Strip, outside of the Rafah area the IDF’s presence has been sporadic.
If implemented, however, Gideon’s Chariots would see the establishment of permanent control over the Gaza Strip.

“Unlike in the past, the IDF will remain in every area it captures, to prevent the return of terrorism, and will treat every cleared area according to the ‘Rafah model’, where all threats were flattened and the area was incorporated into the security buffer zone,” the senior official said.

“A strong protective envelope will be provided to maneuvering forces from land, air, and sea, including the use of heavy tools to neutralize explosives and destroy threatening structures.”

Gazan civilians will be evacuated from the northern and central Gaza Strip to southern Gaza, to facilitate large-scale IDF attacks on Hamas forces and to prevent Hamas from seizing humanitarian aid earmarked for Gaza families.

“A central component of the plan is the large-scale evacuation of the entire Gazan population from combat zones, including northern Gaza, to southern areas. This is aimed at separating civilians from Hamas militants to enable the IDF operational freedom of action.”

The official added that initially, the ban on aid transfers to Gaza will continue during the new operation, though aid will at a later date be handed over to Gaza families at secured depots in southern Gaza.
The plan will be set into motion if no hostage deal is reached by the end of President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East next week, the defense official said.

“The force buildup before the start of the ground maneuver is designed to provide a window of opportunity until the end of the U.S. President’s visit to the region, during which a hostage deal based on the ‘Witkoff model’ could be finalized.”

“If a hostage deal is not reached, Operation Gideon’s Chariots will begin with full force and will not stop until all of its objectives are achieved.”

“The voluntary emigration plan for Gaza residents, especially for those concentrated in the south and outside of Hamas control, will also be part of the operation’s goals.”

President Trump is set to arrive in Saudi Arabia on May 13th, and will remain in the region until May 16th.

Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas condemned the “looting and theft carried out by criminal gangs targeting warehouses and storage facilities of humanitarian aid."

“Gangs” d with the Hamas terrorist group have been looting humanitarian aid meant for civilians in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas said over the weekend.

Abbas condemned the “looting and theft carried out by criminal gangs targeting warehouses and storage facilities of humanitarian aid,” speaking in an official statement published by the P.A.’s Wafa news site on Friday.

According to the P.A., which controls most of the Palestinians in Judea and Samaria but was violently ousted from Gaza by Hamas in a June 2007 coup, “Hamas-d gangs” have been “primarily responsible” for the theft.

Abbas said Palestinians would “not forgive these disgraceful acts committed in such a critical time,” referring to the Israel Defense Forces’ ongoing war against Hamas terrorists in the coastal enclave.

He warned that the gangs were “well known to the Palestinian public” and would “top the blacklist to be held able and brought to justice in accordance with the law at the appropriate time.”

Hamas has looted at least 60% of the aid that Israel allowed to enter Gaza, the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) revealed last year. On March 2, Jerusalem halted the aid supply following Hamas’s rejection of another U.S.-backed truce-for-hostages proposal.

Egypt- and China-brokered reconciliation talks between Abbas’s ruling Fatah faction and Hamas have apparently broken down since the latter terrorist organization announced the g of an agreement in July.

P.A. sources previously told Sky News Arabia that Hamas had approved a three-phase plan leading to “complete reconciliation” and the Gaza-based terrorist group ing the PLO terrorist organization, which controls the P.A., under a “unified Palestinian-Arab vision.”

Hamas reportedly gave its blessing to Abbas’s proposal to establish a government whose purpose would be the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip after the war prompted by its Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist massacre.

However, on April 23, Abbas called on Hamas to “end its control over Gaza, hand over all its affairs to the Palestine Liberation Organization and the legitimate Palestinian National Authority, refrain from carrying arms, transform into a political party that operates according to the laws of the Palestinian state and adheres to international legitimacy.

“The first priority is to stop the war of extermination in the Gaza Strip,” declared the octogenarian P.A. chairman. Abbas added, “This must be stopped—hundreds are being killed every day. Why don’t you hand over the American hostages? Sons of dogs, release those you are holding and put an end to this story. Shut down their [Israel’s] excuses. End this!”

It was not clear whether Abbas, who has yet to publicly condemn Oct. 7, called for the release of all 59 remaining captives, or only Americans.

of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a “military” arm of Abbas’s Fatah movement, participated in the Oct. 7 attacks, and the P.A. has financially rewarded Oct. 7 terrorists through its “pay-for-slay” fund.

Abbas calls Hamas leaders ‘sons of dogs,’ demands releasing all hostages

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas castigates the Hamas terror organization and demands it free Israeli hostages, even as his envoy offers to protect Hamas if it accepts Ramallah’s authority.

The Palestinian Authority (PA) president excoriated the leadership of the Hamas terror organization on Wednesday and demanded that the Islamist Gaza group release the remaining 59 Israeli hostages.

Addressing a meeting of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Central Council in Ramallah, PA President Mahmoud Abbas called Israel’s war against Hamas a “war of extermination,” but also condemned Hamas, calling its leadership “sons of dogs,” and demanding Hamas release all of the remaining captives.

“We must stop Israel’s war of extermination in the Gaza Strip! Why are you only trying to release an American hostage? You sons of dogs, release everyone and rid us of this situation, and block all of Israel’s excuses for this war.”

Abbas, who heads the ruling Fatah faction of the PLO, laid out the PA’s goals vis-à-vis the Gaza Strip and the ongoing war between Hamas and Israel.

“Returning the hostages, lifting the Israeli blockade of Gaza, stopping the displacement of our people in coordination with Arab countries, and defending the ‘Palestinian cause.'”

The 89-year-old PA chief also reiterated his demands that Hamas disarm and surrender control over Gaza to the PA.

Hamas must end its control of the Gaza Strip and hand over its weapons to the Palestinian Authority.

Last month, Abbas dispatched an envoy, PLO Executive Committee Secretary Hussein Al-Sheikh to meet with Hamas leaders, urging the Islamist terror group to the PLO.

According to comments on the official PA TV channed by Muhammad Al-Masri, Director of the Palestinian Center for Strategic Studies, Al-Sheikh said Abbas had offered to protect Hamas should it unite with the PLO.

Iran responds to Trump's call for direct talks

Iran responds to Trump's call for direct talks
Iranian president responds to letter penned by Trump calling for direct talks to reach a new deal on Iran’s nuclear program, saying US must build trust for negotiations to take place.

https://worldisraelnews.com/iran-rejects-trumps-call-for-nuclear-talks/

By World Israel News Staff

Iran formally rejected an overture by US. President Donald Trump on Sunday to engage in direct talks aimed at reaching an accord on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.

Addressing his cabinet, President Masoud Pezeshkian announced that Tehran dispatched a response to a letter penned by Trump and delivered to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei via Oman earlier this month.

Pezeshkian informed cabinet ministers that he had rejected Trump’s proposal for direct talks, while suggesting that brokered negotiations could potentially be a viable option.

Iran’s response to Trump, Pezeshkian said, “rejects the issue of direct negotiations between the two sides; [but] it states that the path to indirect negotiations is open.”

However, Pezeshkian added, the US would first have to take unspecified steps to restore Iran’s trust before talks of any kind could begin. “They must prove that they can build trust,” he said.

“However, as the Islamic Republic had never blocked the paths of indirect negotiations before, this letter [Iran’s reply] has also mentioned that the road to indirect negotiation is left open and has emphasized that Iran has never avoided negotiations.,” he continued.

“This will be the manner of Americans that would determine the continuity of the course of negotiations.”

Trump’s missive, penned in early March, was delivered to Tehran, via Oman, on March 12.

While the contents of the letter have not been publicized, Trump said that he had offered to conduct direct talks while warning of possible military strikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities if Iran proceeds with its uranium enrichment program.

I’ve written them a letter saying, ‘I hope you’re going to negotiate because if we have to go in militarily, it’s going to be a terrible thing,’” Trump said.

Since then, the US has reportedly deployed B-2 Spirit stealth bombers to forward operating bases close enough for strikes on Iran, including at the Camp Thunder Cove base on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.

[Hamas out!’ Fury erupts at funeral of executed Gaza protester[/b]
According to Palestinian human rights activist Ihab Hassan, Hamas terrorists kidnapped, tortured and executed 22-year-old Odai Nasser Saadi Al-Rubai for participating in the demonstrations.

After enduring more than 17 months of devastating warfare, Gazans are turning their anger toward Hamas in a remarkable display of public defiance.

“The people do not want war. The people do not want Hamas,” protesters have been seen chanting in viral videos in Beit Lahia and “Hamas terrorists” in Deir al-Balah over the past week.

Uncharacteristically, Hamas initially let the protests against its iron-fisted rule go unchallenged, with Arab media reporting this was due to fear of being openly targeted by the IDF.

They even attempted to claim the anger of their people was really directed towards Israel, with Hamas spokesman Basem Naim telling Al-Araby television on Sunday that “demonstrations are expected from people facing extermination, against war and destruction.”

But it didn’t last long. According to Palestinian human rights activist Ihab Hassan, Hamas terrorists kidnapped, tortured and executed 22-year-old Odai Nasser Saadi Al-Rubai for participating in the demonstrations.

Hassan, who holds a Master’s degree in Human Rights and identifies as a Palestinian Christian, shared Saturday’s video of Al- Rubai’s funeral on X, where mourners are seen opening fire and chanting “Hamas out, out!”

According to the UN, more than 20 million Gazans have lost their homes, while a World Bank report estimates infrastructure damage at $18.5 billion as of January 2024.

All because Hamas uses its citizens as human shields, and strips its own citizens every day of ample humanitarian aid facilitated by Israel at gunpoint.

Trump announces the Boeing F-47, the ‘most lethal aircraft ever built'
The new plane comes as part of a “family of systems” intended to “counter adversaries such as China and Russia,” according to Reuters.

The Pentagon has awarded Boeing a billion-dollar contract to build the Air Force’s most advanced fighter jet, President Donald Trump announced Friday.

The Next Generation Air Dominance program will replace Lockheed Martin’s F-22 Raptor with Boeing’s F-47, a sixth-generation jet designed to operate alongside drones in combat.

While details of the new jet remain classified, the aircraft is expected to feature stealth capabilities, advanced sensors, and new engines, Reuters reported.

“The F-47 will be the most advanced, most capable, most lethal aircraft ever built,” Trump said at the White House.

“An experimental version of the plane has secretly been flying for almost five years, and we’re confident that it massively overpowers capabilities of any other nation.”

The new plane comes as part of a “family of systems” intended to “counter adversaries such as China and Russia,” according to Reuters.

The contract is valued at more than $20 billion, with Boeing expected to receive hundreds of billions of dollars in orders.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, standing alongside Trump during the announcement, said the new jet “sends a very direct, clear message to our allies, that we’re not going anywhere, and to our enemies, that we will be able to project power around the globe unimpeded for generations to come.”

“We’re going to write the next generation of modern aerial warfare with this,” said Air Force chief of staff Gen. David Allvin.

Courts Have Stopped Illegal Suspension of Legislators in Nigeria
By Femi Falana

In 2010, our law firm handled the case of Hon Dino Melaye and 10 other legislators who were suspended for accusing the Dimeji Bankole-led House of Representative of wallowing in corruption The Federal High Court declared the suspension of the legislators illegal and unconstitutional and ordered the payment of their withheld salaries and allowances.

In 2012, our law firm also handled the case of Honourable Rifkatu Danna, the only female member of the 31-member Bauchi State House of Assembly. Danna was suspended in June 2012 for allegedly making uncomplimentary remarks when she challenged the lawmakers’ decision to approve the relocation of the headquarters of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State. But the Bauchi State High Court declared her suspension illegal and ordered the Bauchi State House of Assembly to reinstate her and pay her withheld salaries and allowances.
In 2017, the Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal filed against the judgment of the Bauchi State High Court in respect of the illegal suspension of Honourable Rifkatu Danna. The Court upheld our submission to the effect that the suspension of the legislator constituted a breach of the right of the Bogoro Constutuency to be representated by her in the state house of assembly. The Court equally held that the decision of the House to withhold the salaries and allowances of the legislator was illegal as she was not an employee but an elected member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly.
In 2018, our law firm equally handled the case of Honourable Abdulmumin Jibrin, a member of the House of Representatives who was suspended for 180 days for accusing the Yakubu Dogara-led House of padding the 2016 national budget. The Federal High Court nullified the suspension and ordered the payment of the withheld salaries and allowances of the legislator.

Based on the case of the Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly v Honourable Honourable Rifkatu Danna (2017) 49 WRN 82 which is the locus classicus on the subject matter, the 2017 suspension of Senator Ali Ndume by the Bukola Saraki-led Senate was annulled by the Federal High Court. The case filed on behalf of the Senator his lawyer, Marcel Oru Esq.

In the same vein, the 2020 suspension of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege was declared illegal and unconstitutional by the Federal High Court. The case was filed on behalf of the Senator by Edward Omaga Esq.

Sometime in 2020, the Jigawa State House of Assembly suspended a lawmaker, Hon. Sani Iyaku, over alleged criticism of the state governor, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar Badaru who was on a visit to Hadejia town for a wedding ceremony. Honourable Iyaku challenged his suspension in the Jigawa State High Court. The trial Judge, Justice Ahmed ruled that the action of the Assembly did not comply with order 15 rule 74 (2)(c) and (3) a, b of the state House of Assembly standing orders 2017 and therefore declared the suspension illegal, inappropriate, null and void. The court also directed that the defendant be paid his three months allowances withheld to the tune of N3 million.

On November 18, 2020, the Court of Appeal, sitting in Akure, Ondo State dismissed the motion for stay of execution filed by the state House of Assembly against the judgment of the High court reinstating the three suspended of the state assembly. The Presiding Judge, Justice Folayemi Omoleye, queried the appellants for bringing a frivolous appeal before the court, directing that the lawmakers should be reinstated immediately to resume their legislative duties.

On August 13, 2024, the same court reinstated Hon. Iroju Ogundeji as the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly. In a unanimous ruling, Justices Oyebisi Folayemi Omoleye, Frederick Oziakpono-Oho, and Yusuf Alhaji Bashir affirmed the decision made by Justice Akintan Osadebey, which reinstated the two-term legislator representing the Odigbo state constituency.

In the past five years, the High Court sitting in Lokoja, Kogi State, and the National Industrial Court nullified the illegal suspension of of the Houses of Assembly of Kogi and Edo State respectively.

In March 2024, the Godswill Akpabio-led Senate suspended Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP; Bauchi) for three months for alleging that Nigeria’s 2024 budget was padded. The Senator instructed our law firm to challenge the suspension in the Federal High Court. We wrote to the leadership of the Senate to review the suspension in view of the illegality of the action. As we were preparing to challenge the suspension in the Federal High Court, the Senate recalled Senator Ningi and paid his withheld salaries and allowances.

In view of the definitive pronouncements of the several High Court and the Court of Appeal on the illegality of the suspension of elected of legislative houses in Nigeria, the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is the height of legislative recklessness. The illegal suspension should be lifted without any further delay. Since the Federal High Court had restrained the Senate Ethics Committee from hearing the complaint against the embattled Senator pending the determination of the motion on notice the Senate ought to have stayed action in accordance with the rule of law.
Finally, the official impunity of suspending legislators at the whims and caprices of leaders of the federal and state legislative houses must not be allowed to continue in Nigeria.

Qassem’s statement implies that Hezbollah may be surrendering the demand for a ceasefire in Gaza as a precondition for a truce between Hezbollah and Israel.

Naim Qassem, the most senior Hezbollah leader after the assassination of Nasrallah and his successor Safieddine, has called for an unconditional ceasefire, apparently not contingent on a cessation of fighting in Gaza.

The former deputy to Hassan Nasrallah and member of Hezbollah’s Jihad Council announced on Tuesday night that the terror group was “agreeing to a ceasefire without preconditions. First, a ceasefire achieved through diplomatic means, and then we will discuss all the details."

Experts believe that the announcement was issued at the behest of Iran and was prompted by the terror proxy’s military weakness after repeated Israeli strikes and assassinations of its leaders.

Given that Qassem is the highest-ranking Hezbollah official remaining alive, the request for a ceasefire is apparently an official statement from the terror group.

The request would entail both sides stopping the fighting before an agreement is mediated, most likely through the United Nations.

Qassem added, “If the enemy [Israel] continues its war, then the battlefield will decide.”

He added that he relied on Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to restore calm.
“We the political activity being led by Berri under the title of a ceasefire,” Qassem said.

led by Berri under the title of a ceasefire,” Qassem said.

ISRAEL DESTROYS UNDERGROUND IRANIAN MISSILE FACTORY, IRAN FUMING
The statement signals a change in position for Hezbollah since the terror group had indicated, since it began firing missiles into Israel on October 8th, that it would not stop hostilities until Israel submitted to a ceasefire agreement with Hamas in Gaza.

Qassem’s statement implies that Hezbollah may be surrendering the demand for a ceasefire in Gaza as a precondition for a truce between Hezbollah and Israel.

US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller explained that Israel has not yet accepted the ceasefire and that there is reason to distrust the request for a ceasefire from Hezbollah, particularly if the terror group refuses to retreat from Israel’s northern border back to the Litani River, as it was supposed to do after the Second Lebanon War according to the of Resolution 1701.

“Obviously, we don’t trust Hezbollah,” Miller said. “But you look at what Hezbollah said in 2006 when the UN Security Council adopted 1701… that they would implement 1701 – and they blew through all of their commitments.”

“So there is an obvious lack of faith in Hezbollah’s ability to do what it said in 2006 and do what it’s saying it would do now, which is agree to an actual ceasefire that would allow Israeli civilians to return home and allow Lebanese civilians to return home,” the State Department spokesperson said.

However, Miller said it was hopeful that Hezbollah had not spoken of a ceasefire in the 12 months of fighting and it was mentioning it now that the terror group is “getting battered, suddenly they’ve changed their tune and want a ceasefire. I think it’s not surprising given the situation they find themselves in,” he said.

How a handshake led to Hezbollah chief’s assassination

The IDF has managed to infiltrate Hezbollah by all intelligence means, which has led to the almost complete decapitation of the terrorist group.

By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News

Israel succeeded in assassinating Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah Friday because someone shook his hand in greeting, Saudi Arabian station Al Hadath reported Sunday.

Quoting anonymous sources, the station said, “A person met with Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah, shook his hand, and then smeared his hand with a substance that allowed Israel to track him.”

The only identifier posited for that person was that he was from Iran.

Whether true or not, it points to the undeniable fact that Israel’s intelligence that led to this strategic blow to the country’s most immediate and formidable military foe has recently revealed itself to be extraordinary.

According to a Sunday report in the Financial Times (FT), over the last 18 years, Israel has managed to thoroughly infiltrate Hezbollah by any and all means, both human and electronic.
Citing former Israeli intelligence officials and Lebanese politicians, the paper said that the breakthrough came in 2012, when Hezbollah leaped to aid Syrian leader Bashar al Assad put down an internal rebellion.

They started publicly revealing information on their men that used to be top secret, said Yezid Sayigh, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Middle East Center, becoming “complacen[t]” and “flabby.”

Israel took the free information and then expanded their files on the senior by old-fashioned methods such as having them followed, and newer means, like hacking their phones and breaking into Lebanese surveillance cameras.

Israeli officials told FT that the IDF figured out that whenever the terrorists’ practices strayed from their ordinary routines, that meant they were expecting to attack Israel.

This is what occurred on Friday, when military intelligence learned that Nasrallah was on his way to his fortified bunker, buried 60 feet under a civilian apartment building in Beirut that he used as his human shield – and the order was given to blast it with 80 tons of bombs.
Nasrallah’s assassination perhaps put an exclamation point on the fact that due to its intelligence successes, over the last several weeks, Israel has almost completely decapitated the terrorist organization, seriously damaging its entire command structure.

Twenty other senior terrorists were killed along with the Hezbollah chief in his bunker, while dozens of the highest-ranking commanders of Hezbollah’s most important units and sectors along Israel’s border have been eliminated by precision IAF airstrikes.

This is besides some 3,000 mid-level Hezbollah fighters being injured and over two dozen killed by their exploding pagers and walkie talkies in an attack for which Israel has not claimed formal responsibility.

Through years of painstaking aerial surveillance and work on the ground, the IDF has also built up a huge pool of worthy Hezbollah targets to hit.

This has been on display throughout the last 11 months of war, as the air force and artillery have responded to the nearly 10,000 aerial attacks Hezbollah has launched since the Israel-Hamas war began, by striking terrorist military targets across Lebanon that have resulted in about 500 more terrorist deaths.

Palestinian Commander Martyred in Clashes with Zionist Forces in WB

IQNA – A senior Palestinian commander was martyred in a heavy exchange of fire with the Israeli regime’s forces in the occupied West Bank.

He was the commander of a Palestinian resistance group d with Saraya al-Quds, the military wing of the Gaza-based Islamic Jihad movement.

Palestinian media reports said on Thursday that Muhammad Samer Jaber, the commander of the Tulkarm Brigade, and four other resistance fighters had been killed during the occupation’s aggression on the Nour Shams refugee camp in the east of the occupied West Bank city of Tulkarm.

Reports said Jaber, known by his nom de guerre Abu Shujaa, was killed around 4:00 a.m. when the Israeli occupation army surrounded a building in the Tulkarm camp, where he and several other Palestinian fighters were located.

Following fierce clashes, Abu Shujaa and four others were killed by a missile while the Israeli occupation army captured another Palestinian fighter in the building.

The Israeli military said one of its soldiers was injured during the confrontation at the Nour Shams refugee camp.

The 26-year-old leader of the Tulkarm Brigade had for years been the target of assassination by the Israeli regime.

The Israeli military invaded the Tulkarm refugee camp in April and carried out one of its deadliest offensives in years, which resulted in the killing of 14 Palestinians and the wounding of many more.

At the time, after rumors spread that Abu Shujaa was killed, the young man appeared at the mass funeral of his colleagues, brandishing his automatic rifle and delivering an emotive speech about the continuation of the resistance.

Israel had been seeking to arrest him or kill him ever since, especially as the Tulkarm Brigade has emerged as one of the strongest of the fighting groups that are resisting the Israeli occupation of the West Bank.

Violence by settlers and raids by Israeli forces have surged across the occupied West Bank since Israel launched its barbaric military campaign in the besieged Gaza Strip in October last year.

According to medical sources, the aggression has so far resulted in the killing of 18 citizens in Jenin, Tulkarm, and Tubas, while more than 30 others were injured, bringing the death toll since October 7, 2023 to 667.

The Islamic Jihad movement said in a statement that Abu Shujaa was one of the founders of the Tulkarem Brigade and praised the “heroic confrontation” of the commander and his companions with the occupation soldiers.

“Our Palestinian people knew the leader Abu Shujaa for his steadfastness and courage, a fighter who decided to confront the occupation bravely with his brothers, to lift the injustice imposed on their people, realizing that confronting the enemy, whatever the price, is much easier than living under a criminal occupation that kills children, violates sanctities, humiliates dignity, executes people in the streets, confiscates property, plans day and night to steal land and displace its people, arrests children, besieges hospitals, commits massacres and wages a war of genocide,” the statement said.

Stressing that Abu Shujaa’s martyrdom “increases our people's steadfastness, resilience, and determination,” the Islamic Jihad said, “The enemy is trying in vain to eradicate our resistance in the West Bank, and we will thwart all its attempts.”

The statement added, “The martyrdom of a leader will be succeeded by a thousand leaders... and victory belongs to our people and our resistance.”

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas also mourned the assassination of Abu Shujaa and his comrades, saying, “We affirm that the continuation of the occupation's aggression on the West Bank will not break our people and resistance.”

“We emphasize that the crimes of the occupation will ignite the ground with flames under the feet of its terrified army and settler gangs, and will erupt the volcano of anger simmering in the West Bank due to the ongoing practices and arrogance of the occupation,” Hamas said.

“We call upon our heroic people in the West Bank for greater unity and cohesion with the resistance, intensification of the popular momentum and field confrontation with the occupation and its settlers until the aggression is repelled, the occupation is expelled, and we attain our freedom and legitimate rights,” the group added.

A phone call facilitated the assassination of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr

A phone call facilitated the assassination of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr
The call likely came from someone who breached Hezbollah’s communications network.

A phone call led Hezbollah commander to go to an apartment higher up in a building, thus facilitating his assassination, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Shukr, who lived an almost reclusive life despite his many activities with Hezbollah, received a phone call telling him to go to an apartment seven stories above the one where he was staying.

Soon after he moved to the new apartment, a strike slammed into the apartment and all those three stories below.

Shukr, his wife, two women and two children were killed in the attack.

The goal was to lure Shukr to a higher floor where he would be easier to target.

The call likely came from someone who breached Hezbollah’s communications network.

Hezbollah and Iran are investigating what led to the security breach and the assassination, but it is believed that Israel’s superior technology and hacking skills allowed it to interfere with communications.

Shukr was responsible for the attack on Majdal Shams that killed 12 children and is wanted by the US for the 1983 bombing of the US Marine Corps barracks in Beirut in an attack that killed 241 US Service personnel.

The US had put a $5 million bounty on the head of Fuad Shukr.

In addition, Shukr was a chief advisor to Hezbollah head Hassan Nasrallah and was the mastermind of the cross-border offensive that killed 8 IDF soldiers, kidnapped 2 others and started the 2006 Israel Lebanon War.

He was also instrumental in building Hezbollah’s arsenal from 15,000 to some 150,000, missiles, making it the best-armed nonstate actor in the region.

Shukr played a pivotal role in smuggling in Iranian weapons through Syria.

Hours after Fuad Shukr was assassinated in Beirut, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Tehran, reportedly by an explosion that was planted where he was staying months earlier and detonated by operatives within IRGC ranks.

The two assassinations have led to a standoff between Israel on one side and Hezbollah and Iran on the other, with the latter threatening to attack and get revenge for the assassinations.

Israel on high alert following assassination of senior Hezbollah and Hamas leaders

What’s happened: Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has issued an order for Iran to strike Israel directly, in retaliation for the killing in Tehran of Hamas’s leader, Ismail Haniyeh.

In his public statement, Iran’s supreme leader, said: “we see avenging his blood our duty,” because it happened on the territory of the Islamic Republic. He said Israel had set the stage for receiving “a severe punishment.”
In a memorial ceremony held in Tehran, the Ayatollah personally led the prayers, while also speaking at the ceremony, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, said that the Israeli regime committed a ‘strategic mistake’.
In Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed the nation on Wednesday evening and described the current conflict as an “existential war against a stranglehold of terrorist armies and missiles that Iran would like to tighten around our neck.”
Speaking of Hezbollah’s number two Shukr, Netanyahu said that he “was directly responsible for the massacre of our dear boys and girls in Majdal Shams. He was responsible for the murder of many other Israeli citizens. He was responsible for the unceasing assault against our citizens in the northern communities over nine months of war.”
“He was one of the most wanted terrorists in the world. The US put a $5 million bounty on his head, and for good reason. He was involved in the murder of 241 American soldiers and 58 French soldiers in Beirut in 1983. He was the main liaison between Iran and Hezbollah and he was responsible for the organisation’s missiles,” Netanyahu added.
Defence Minister Gallant spoke to his counterpart US Secretary of State Austin who reassured him by saying, “We certainly will help defend Israel. You saw us do that April. You can expect to see us do that again.”
The US has also now deployed at least 12 warships to the region, including the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, amphibious assault teams and over 4,000 Marines and sailors.
In a further unconfirmed attack, Syria sources are claiming that Brig Gen Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Forces, has been killed in a targeted attack close to Damascus. Hajizadeh is understood to have been the senior commander who oversaw the Iranian ballistic and cruise missile attack in April against Israel.

Israel strikes again? Top IRGC commander Amir Ali Hajizadeh assassinated in Syria's Damascus, claim reports

In a dramatic turn of events, unconfirmed reports from Syria suggest that Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Forces, has been assassinated in an attack near the Syrian capital of Damascus.

Hajizadeh, a key figure in the Iranian military hierarchy, was reportedly the senior commander behind the Iranian ballistic and cruise missile attacks against Israel in April.

According to journalist Levent Kamal, "There are unconfirmed reports from Syria that Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, Commander of the Aerospace Forces of the IRGC, was killed in an attack near the Syrian capital Damascus."

Earlier this month, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the IRGC Aerospace Commander, made a bold statement indicating Iran's preparedness for future military actions. He declared, "We are eagerly looking forward to any opportunity for carrying out Operation True Promise 2.0, and this next operation will be much larger and greater in every aspect."

As we await official confirmation regarding Hajizadeh's reported assassination, social media is abuzz with speculation that Israel may be responsible for eliminating its third enemy within a span of less than 24 hours.

The incident comes amidst heightened tensions in the region, following recent developments involving Hamas and Hezbollah. Earlier today, reports emerged of the killing of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards in a strike on his residence in Tehran. The Palestinian group has accused Israel of orchestrating the attack, which Hamas has termed a "grave escalation." Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the inauguration of Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Earlier today, Israeli forces have confirmed the killing of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in an airstrike in Beirut. Shukr, who was implicated in the Majdal Shams massacre and accused of directing attacks on Israel, was a significant target for Israeli military operations. The strike on Shukr was part of a broader Israeli campaign against Hezbollah and its s.

The timing of these attacks, including the reported assassination of Hajizadeh, suggests a coordinated effort by Israel to target high-profile figures within Iran’s network of allied militant groups. Israeli officials have, however, denied involvement in Haniyeh’s death but have claimed responsibility for the airstrike in Beirut.

The simultaneous killings of prominent figures from Hamas and Hezbollah could signal an attempt by Israel to assert its capability to strike at high-value targets across the region. The developments have heightened fears of a broader regional conflict, with Iran threatening retaliation and vowing to respond to the killing of Haniyeh.

PDP hails Gov Alia’s endorsement of ban on open grazing

The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has lauded Governor Hyacinth Alia over his decision to retain and embrace the ban on open grazing of livestock in the state.
The Prohibition of Open Grazing and Ranches Establishment Law which was assented to by the immediate past governor of the state, Samuel Ortom in 2017 was enacted to serve as a substantial bulwark against the influx of herdsmen into the state.

Recall that the governor had during his campaign, said the law would be reviewed when he assumes office, creating fear that his istration may jettison the the act.
His istration has, however, adopted the law as a way of tackling the security crisis bedevilling the state.

Reacting, PDP in a statement issued on Saturday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Bemgba Iortyom, welcomed Alia’s final stand on the matter.

The party urged the governor to create an enabling environment for the herdsmen who are willing to embrace ranching to do so, saying those who are unwilling should be chased out of the state.

Part of the statement reads, “We welcome the governor’s stand and urge him to back his words regarding his new stand with action by getting those herdsmen willing to embrace ranching to take to the practice immediately while those unwilling to do so should leave the state.”

Russia will use a Poseidon underwater missile to wipe Britain off the map with a 1,000ft-high radioactive tsunami if NATO troops put boots on the ground in Ukraine, Putin's propagandists claim

Yevgeny Buzhinsky called for attacks on UK with Poseidon underwater missile
He said Britain 'will definitely not exist' if Russia unleashed the nuclear weapon
Russian state media has urged Vladimir Putin to use his underwater nuclear missile to wipe Britain off the map with a 1,000ft-high radioactive tsunami if NATO troops put boots on the ground in Ukraine.

Retired Russian general Yevgeny Buzhinsky called for attacks on Britain with a Poseidon underwater missile that he said would trigger a 1,000ft radioactive tidal wave.

Lt-Gen Buzhinsky, chairman of the Russian Centre for Policy Research, said Britain 'will definitely not exist' if Russia unleashed the wrath of the nuclear missile.

The warnings were made as Putin's propagandists discussed Russia's military options after its failure to make meaningful headway in Ukraine.

What is Russia's nuclear armed Poseidon torpedo?
Poseidon is a Russian nuclear weapon currently in development that is a blend of torpedo and drone.

Moscow claims it is unstoppable by current nuclear defences, and could be used to destroy coastal cities or blow up aircraft carriers and their battle groups.

Poseidon is made up of a 65ft tube that is almost 6ft in diameter which can be carried by specially adapted submarines and launched like a torpedo.

Once launched, it acts like a drone and can be remotely guided to its target.
Poseidon is thought to be capable of traveling up to 115mph which would give it the ability to out-run any torpedos that might be used to destroy it.

It is also thought to be able to dive to 1km, which would also put it out of range of current torpedos.

While the exact payload is unknown, the size of the nuclear warhead seen in leaked designs suggests it could have a yield of up to 100 megatons.

That would make Poseidon roughly twice as powerful as the Tsar Bomba - the largest nuke ever created - which obliterated everything within a 60mile radius when it was tested in 1961, shattering the windows of buildings up to 560miles away.

Buzhinsky also claimed on Russian state TV channel Rossiya 1 that the 'unstoppable' 6,670mph hypersonic missile Zircon was 'about to be used in combat operations' after testing.

'Of course, there are such means as Poseidon, which has been tested,' Buzhinsky said.

A smirking Solovyov responded: 'I would like to see how Poseidon works, I would like to see Sarmat in action.'
'Tsunami, tsunami, yes, tsunami,' replied pro-war Buzhinsky. '[If NATO] sends troops, it will end up with [us using] Poseidon, of course, and a tsunami. And 300 metre [985ft] high waves.'

Solovyov interjected: 'Great Britain will not exist then.' Buzhinsky, 72, agreed and insisted: 'Britain will definitely not exist.'

RT propaganda empire chief Margarita Simonyan added: 'The UK will not be there.' It would be drowned 'straight away', she said.

The propagandists' remarks follow a pattern that has developed on Russian state media since the Ukraine war began of threatening Britain with nuclear holocaust.
The threats are believed to be the result of the UK's staunch for Ukraine, which became the first NATO country to announce it would send 14 next-generation battle tanks to the war-torn country in the form of Challenger 2 tanks.

Buzhinsky was angry that Putin's missile bombardment of Ukraine had not gone far enough.

'Of course, six missiles cannot make the tipping point,' he said. There should better be 60 [missiles]. Or even better 600.'

Putin sees the Poseidon as a key to his ultimate military supremacy over the West, it has been reported.

Another propagandist Dmitry Kiselyov has previously threatened that the Poseidon 'approaches the target at a one kilometre depth with the speed of 200 kilometres per hour [125mph].

'There is no way to stop this underwater drone,' he said on state TV last year. 'It has a warhead with a capacity of up to 100 megatons. The explosion of this thermonuclear torpedo close to Britain's shores will raise a giant wave, a tsunami.'

He said: 'This tidal wave is also a carrier of extremely high doses of radiation.

'Surging over Britain, it will turn what is probably left of them into radioactive desert. Permanently unusable for anything.'

FG relies on Customs, FIRS revenue to pay salaries

https://punchng.com/fg-relies-on-customs-firs-revenue-to-pay-salaries/

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, says the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), relies heavily on funds generated by Nigeria Customs Service and Federal Inland Revenue Service.

Keyamo’s statement corroborated an earlier report by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited on July 20 that it would no longer remit money to the Federation s Allocation Committee for sharing to the three tiers of government monthly.

The NNPC hinged the decision on its latest transition from a public corporation to a limited liability company, adding that all monetary arrears to the committee were owed by the old corporation and not the new oil company.

Keyamo made the statement at the unveiling of The Progressives Forum at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, on Wednesday.

“NNPC is no longer remitting money into FAAC. I hope you know that? All the money they earn goes into subsidies. So the government have to rely on revenue from customs, FIRS and others to pay salaries and carry out some other activities. Go and check the gas prices in the US and UK. They have gone up more than four or five times, even in oil-producing countries,” he said.

This is even as the spokesperson of APC Presidential Campaign Council disclosed that Buhari’s sympathy for the masses is the sole reason subsidy on fuel importation has not been removed.

According to him, the president has proposed to remove subsidy by next year after some level of palliative measures have been put in place to cushion the effect.

He said, “If it were to be another government in power, I am telling you there will be no subsidy. But President Buhari wants some measures in place to cushion the effect on the poor before it is removed. This is because there is no longer any justification to retain subsidy as I speak with you today.

“We are in government and cannot hide it from the masses. We just have to keep saying that subsidy has eaten deep into our economy. But it seems the sympathy that the president has for the poor that is still keeping subsidy alive. He feels there is a need to put measures in place to cushion effect for the poor before it is removed.

“That’s why he pushed it till sometime next year. It is not a secret.

“As against those who want a free market economy, we believe that there must be intervention in the lives of the poor and the middle class. This philosophy is quite different from what other political parties are offering. That’s why we have a lot of intervention programmes such as conditional cash transfers to the very poor. That’s the philosophy of Buhari and APC.”
