At the 2025 World Milk Day Conference in Abuja, organized by the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development in partnership with dairy stakeholders and national institutions, FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC announced plans to establish a Dairy Academy in collaboration with the ministry.
The announcement was made by Roger Adou, Managing Director, FrieslandCampina WAMCO and is designed to strengthen local capacity and expand Nigeria’s dairy sector sustainably.
“Our collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development on the Dairy Academy builds on our long-term commitment to transform Nigeria’s dairy value chain,” said Adou.
“Empowering farmers with knowledge, modern technology, and sustainable practices is essential to building a self-sufficient dairy sector. FrieslandCampina WAMCO is committed to making affordable, high-quality milk accessible to every household.”
The Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, emphasized that the Dairy Academy will serve as a national resource for empowering rural farmers to improve milk quality and yield as well as provide sustainable employment opportunities.
The proposed Dairy Academy will be located on 20-hectare plots at Maya Farm in Oyo State, owned by FrieslandCampina WAMCO, and will serve as a specialized training hub for dairy farmers and service providers. The academy will deliver modern training in dairy farming, milk hygiene, animal health, and climate-smart agriculture.
The Dairy Academy will also offer flexible courses alongside an intensive Artificial Insemination (AI) course. To facilitate effective learning, the facility will be equipped with a 200-seat training hall, a laboratory, cow sheds, hay barns, silage storage, and essential farm machinery, including tractors, boom sprayers, harvesters, and manure spreaders.
“The establishment of a Dairy Academy represents a major leap forward in building the technical competencies and business knowledge of dairy farmers,” added the Executive Director, Corporate Affairs, Ore Famurewa. “We are committed to developing Nigeria into a centre of dairy excellence through sustainable backward integration and strategic partnerships.”
FrieslandCampina WAMCO’s Dairy Development model remains a prime example to accelerate a sustainable dairy sector in Nigeria.
Since its inception in 2010, the initiative has expanded across seven (7) states; Oyo, Ogun, Kwara, Ondo, Osun, Plateau, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Today, over 15,000 farmers are part of the network including women and youth who have been trained.
30 milk collection centres have been established to improve milk aggregation and cold chain reliability, with daily milk collection exceeding 40,000 litres at peak period.
The company has prioritized veterinary health in collaboration with state agricultural authorities and the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, resulting in over 10,000 cattle vaccinations across host communities.
Its investment in breed improvement is evident in the birth of more than 900 Girolando crossbreed calves to date, an important step toward increasing local yields.
Launched in April 2021, the Value4Dairy Consortium, the first business partner model of its kind in Nigeria, established three dairy zones in Oyo, Osun, and Abuja. Through this consortium, FrieslandCampina WAMCO and its partners have executed over 1,351 artificial inseminations with a 65% success rate.
More than 3,300 farmers have been trained in Good Dairy Farming Practices (GDFP), and the initiative has facilitated the construction of three additional milk collection centres, 15 solar-powered coolers for fresh milk collection and 23 solar powered boreholes to dairy hygiene.
Furthermore, the company has partnered with over 25 smallholder dairy farmers to key initiatives in breed improvement, feed and pasture development.
As part of this initiative, more than 10 farmers have each been allocated 5-hectare plots or more for pasture cultivation at the Fashola Hub within the 300-hectare development land allocated to FrieslandCampina WAMCO in Oyo.

A Makurdi Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered that 11 cattle rearers be remanded at the Correctional Centre, Makurdi, for allegedly terrorising Benue communities.
The cattle rearers were identified as Nanzir Ishaya, Suleiman Umaru, Yakubu Mallam, Dauda Abdulkarim, Manu Buhari, Haruna Abdulkarim, Ibrahim Mallam, Yunusa Waziri, Idi Usman, Adamu Manu and Abdullahi Wakili.
The defendants who live at various addresses in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, were charged with criminal conspiracy, illegal possession of firearms, acts of terrorism, open grazing and being in possession of cattle suspected to be stolen.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Kelvin Mbanongun, did not take their pleas for want of jurisdiction.
Mbanongun adjourned the matter until July 7, 2025, for further mention.
Earlier, prosecutor Insp. Godwin Ato told the court that on June 1, a team of policemen attached to Operation Zenda at Katsina-Ala received credible information that a group of armed bandits who were allies of a dreaded bandit leader, one Amakaa Akwaza, were sighted in their hideout at Nugu village with arms.
The prosecutor said on receiving the information, a combined team of Operation Zenda and Benue State Civil Protection Guards led by Insp. Donald Ahulu were mobilised to the location of the hideout and engaged the hoodlums in a gun battle.
Ato said the security operatives overpowered the suspected bandits in the fierce gun duel, which resulted in some of the fully armed bandits fleeing, while one AK-47 rifle with breech number 6189 with 16 rounds of live ammunition was recovered from the scene.
He said the security operatives then arrested 10 of the suspected bandits while they were loading cattle suspected to be stolen into a Mercedes Benz truck with registration number TTM 405 XA Taraba, and openly grazing some of the cows on a nearby farm.
The prosecutor said further investigation led to the arrest of the chief of the Fulani community in Katsina-Ala, Wakili, who he said has been working closely with Akwaza in supplying arms to the herdsmen terrorising Benue and its environs.
The prosecutor said their offences contravened sections 6(b) and 3(1) of the Robbery and Firearms Act, 2004; 19 of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law of Benue, 2017; and 321 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue, 2004

Ozekhome, a road side mechanics lawyer, Gazette, a fake new blog, Headless mob, a bunch of social media puppets. The key question is, what was the charge against the defendant before the court?.. he wasn't charged for self defense, rather he was charged for manslaughter and the penalty for that is a death sentence. Both the prosecuting and defense counsels know this and they could have amend the charge sheet before approaching the court. The court of Lew doesn't mot give a foock about your emotions, the reason you keep wailing after you lost an election, instead of you learning and getting yourself enlightened. They keep manipulating your emotions because you are ignorant.

A fresh price war has erupted in Nigeria’s fuel market as retail stations owned by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) and independent marketers have reduced their petrol prices below those of the Dangote Refinery.
As of June 3, 2025, several filling stations across Lagos have dropped their pump prices. Al-Moruf Filling Station in the Igando area now sells petrol at ₦865 per litre, while MOJ and Eunice stations are also offering similar rates. NNPC Retail has ed the fray, adjusting its own price to ₦870 per litre all lower than the ₦875 per litre currently charged at stations supplied by the Dangote Refinery.
Depot prices have also taken a plunge. AITEO depot is now selling Motor Spirit (PMS) at ₦826 per litre, giving independent resellers a better profit margin compared to purchasing from Dangote’s supply.
Experts believe these developments reflect a significant shift in the petroleum pricing landscape. Despite Dangote Refinery's increased refining output and operational strength, it appears competitors are gaining ground by underpricing its supply.
Analysts say this trend indicates that private marketers are now taking the lead in price-setting within Nigeria’s deregulated downstream sector.
“The move shows a battle for market share,” one analyst said. “It’s a case of survival and relevance. If Dangote Refinery cannot maintain price competitiveness despite local refining advantages, it may lose dominance faster than expected.”
In response, Dangote Refinery is set to import five million barrels of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil from the United States for July deliveries.
The refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, has reportedly secured around 161,000 barrels daily from U.S. sources to boost production and possibly reduce prices further.
In a bid to stay competitive, some independent marketers are reportedly collaborating, tly purcha to 40,000 litres to reduce costs and avoid losses triggered by Dangote’s pricing strategy.
As more fuel enters the market, especially from international sources, experts expect retail fuel prices to fluctuate further in the coming weeks, intensifying competition across the board.

I have seen you jump from topic to topic and page to page for the defence of your paymaster and trying so impressively to make a justifiable point.
You see that new proposed loan of $ 21B even if they like let them share it to all the voters before 2027, your Lord PBAT will struggle in 2027.
It's a well known fact that Umar Ganduje has gone on an overdrive for the 2027 reelection of PBAT as Party Chairman.
Kano state is the second most populous state in Nigeria after Lagos and the most politically active a small insignificant fraction will do nothing to do with the Kwakwansiya movement.
Even when you're being enlightened that the loan was not an actual loan but an MTEF covering a 3year period across state and federal govt, yet your headless mob shallow logic still persists. And who is also paying you to defend the fraud from Agulu?. Let see how that fraud will use religious war to get votes in 2027.

It's said that petrol has been deregulated so it's the seller and buyer's deal. Why is the government interested in what happens at the border since it's paying no subsidy and people are currently paying full price for petrol and can decide what to do with it.
Before you tell me that it's cheaper in Nigeria, kindly note that it's one of the benefits of lower exchange rates. It makes export cheaper and should attract capital inflows. I don't really understand how Nigeria works honestly.
I can have issues with this if we're still under subsidy regime but since it's the reverse, I see no reason government should have a problem with it provided it has no security implications
This one does not know the meaning of smuggling, go school, they say no.
