Thank you very much.
If I change the DS-160 number on my profile, would it also reflect on my appointment confirmation?
Hollyholy:
If your interview date is less than 72hours away, kindly ignore the advise below.
Retrieve your submitted form using your former confirmation number and answers to your security questions, update all information and submit.
Go to your appointment page on cgifederal , use update information or something like that to edit the former ds 160 number to the new one and save.
Then click on confirmation and select the option to email you your new confirmation containing the new ds number.
That means they can just hold it if asked but dont submit it. Hide am somewhere for just incase.

Congrats bro.
Well I actually wear a native and a leather sandals but my visa was approved.
I ain't saying you should dress anyhow but native doesn't stop you from getting your visa approved.

When people get denied, reasons must be attached.
God help us and congrats again

In addition to what you mentioned, often times when VOs don't ask much question during the interview, they probably have seen sufficient information from the ds160 you filled to reject you.
bigfrancis21:
The issue here is probably with your school. Wright State University seems to be frowned upon at the embassy and it has low approval ratings at the embassy. Change your school and try again.

Dude. Search for Walspring and send him a DM. Stop exposing your information on a faceless forum. If I now call you and say I am Walspring nko, that you should send your money and info?
Don't expose yourself to scammers. They are everywhere.
God bless you.

Thanks for this. But in a situation where both names are different...??
The VO might check her profile to confirm if it's same name. Don't you think so??
This is indeed a complicated situation and I'm completely out of suggestions to give her.
. There’s no place on your corporate where the personal name of the corporate holder is written. You only have the corporate name written on the soa for example xxxxx nig ltd

Greetings dear gurus in the house!
I have a few questions about visiting the USA.
I have a friend in the US(married and a Nurse) who wish to invite me and my wife over (we have no kids yet). He wants us to come live & work in the US through INVITATION.
We've never met in person but got to know him through a friend I know from Childhood who now live in South Africa.
My questions:
In view of our circumstance, is it possible for both of us to be INVITED
What category of Visa will work for us?
Can we stay back in the US and apply for Study in the post grad program? Is there any legal option for staying back in the US?
Note: the goal is to get PR
Please help me explore all options available.
Please don’t waste your time and money!

Sir, like I said. You are supposed to pay your sevis fee before anything.

Sorry Man.
Next time will be better.
At the bolded: Since the VO was able to recognize you, how was your encounter with him the last time? Why do you think he recognized you immediately? Though it happens but rare.
Did you chose the school because the Prof. believes in your ability to excel? This part is a very sensitive part. You actually didn't convince the VO more on why you chose the school. The explanation was not enough.
You needed to do more as stated by some persons here.
What other schools did you apply: Though it may count or may not(talking about the ission status), but i feel you should have just mentioned the name of the school only. You can proceed with more info if the VO demands to know if you were itted or not.
And lastly, about your work: It's been explained already. For me, going by your transcript, i feel the major thing to take note here is "why the school" - this is the selling point.
Every VO that interviewed an applicant leaves a remark--whether approved or refused.
So, I want to believe if a VO meets an applicant he once refused, he would know. It is in the system.

Frown upon a public school? The University of New Haven was not frowned upon, but Wright State University? I don't agree.

Status: Denied
Lagos consulate, Nov 20th 2020
My interview lasted about 10 minutes. Here we go:
The moment I entered the hall, I noticed that there were three VOs interviewing people at the counter, two females and one male. I realized immediately that the male was the guy who denied me last year and started praying that I should not come across him again. He had already denied about three to four persons right there in the hall. Unfortunately, I came across him again.
The moment I ed my port and i20 to him, he looked at me and said, "I denied you last year and sorry I cannot interview you this time." He then directed me to another VO, an elderly woman. I can't the window. Now the interview proper.
Me: Good morning ma
VO: Good morning, me your i-20 and port then place your hands on the scanner for the biometric capture.
Me: Okay ma. (I ed the documents to her and placed my hands on the scanner)
VO: Where are you going to?
Me: I am going to MSU, Starkvile, to pursue my PhD in Sociology with concentration in Criminology.
VO: I see. So, why this university?
Me: I settled for MSU because I was able to find a wonderful Prof. in the person of Professor XYZ who not only shares my research interest but believes in my abilities to excel at graduate school. For me, that's priceless. I also settled for MSU because the program is fully funded.
VO: I see that you've got full tuition waiver. Who's paying for the decifit?
Me: Please check ma, I do not have any deficit. The stipend from my assistantship covers my living expenses.
VO: Okay. Alright (kept typing into the system)
VO: What other school did you apply to?
Me: I also applied to Northeastern University, Boston, but I was not itted.
VO: Did you write GRE, if yes, your score? (I was asked this same question the last time by the male VO)
Me: 300
VO: Where do you work? (I asked the last time too)
Me:I work with XYZ, a Lagos based NGO
VO: Have you travelled out of the country before? (Was also asked the last time)
Me: No
VO: Sorry bla bla bla and hands me a green paper.
Me: (dumbfounded)
PS: Gurus in the house, Fairheart, Walspring, Chonco, and the rest what do you guys sense as the reason for my rejection? I'll appreciate your views because I intend to reapply. Thanks.
One thing I have learnt about consulars at the US embassy is that they are fast thinkers. Within 3 minutes, they can see what you didn't see in 9 month of your entire application before you stand before them for the 3-minutes-or-less interview. Working with an NGO ring different types of bell in the VO's head. If you have been refused before, it is possible the previous VO left a remark the new VO made the decision to refuse you on. I am just suspecting. If you changed something critical in your DSFORM and it appears to the VO as a lie, it could also cause refusal. The exact reason for your refusal, in my opinion, cannot really pinpoint. Only God knows what no man has access to! I also need to tell those who have been refused before: Note that not every applicant will be approved their visa. Not every applicant will get it the first time, the second time, a third time. We have seen 4th attempt, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and even 9th. I once read of a story of a student in Asia that was refused 9 times and got it on 10th attempt. Why 9 refusals? Only the God and the embassy knows.
It is painful to see your refusal, but keep hope alive. My advise for you is to re-evaluate the reason you applied in the first place? Why? Can you still find that reason? Are you still convinced that you truly need this visa, to study and return to Nigeria? Or you are doing it because someone you know somewhere has done it and it worked for them? If there's still genuine reason and conviction, then try again. In life, you cannot be faster than your time. The time is ahead, you follow. This means until it is time for something, you may not actually have it (Heyo, this is my philosophy and should not be taken as the ultimate reality of your situation).
All the best!

Thanks a lot Fairheart for this fine evaluation of my situation. I found the much needed inspiration in your /review. I am looking at trying Abuja again, if I am still able to find a date before or around the start of my program in January. If not, I might have to defer and try again in Fall, which in any case was supposed to be the ideal resumption period save for the interference of the pandemic. All hope is not lost yet, as you say, and everyone has an appointed time. I will be glad you I get chance to speak with you privately. Thanks.
PS. I have sent you a mail. Thanks.

This is a public space with a lot of people like VO’s who might be reading, are gurus suppose to encourage you by giving you options to become an illegal immigrants with invitations. No wonder visa denial is just flying up and down. Y’all make it so hard for us honestly and it’s not cool.

(1) It is not obligatory. People use their maternal uncles with different surnames.
(2) People have used both and got their visa approved.
