Medical microbiology, the large subset of
microbiology that is applied to medicine , is a branch of medical science concerned with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of
infectious diseases. In addition, this field of science studies various clinical applications of microbes for the improvement of health.
As far as Nigeria is concerned this is more lucrative than the normal microbiology.
Apologies, but not in Nigeria of today. I wouldn't advise anyone to study just medical microbiology, instead studying the extensive microbiology is fine, then the person can choose a specification later. It is just too specific and medical microbiologists tend to have little or nothing to settle with here in Nigeria. as a Medical microbiologist, you don't have a place in hospitals or medical diagnostic labs, those places prefer those that study hematology, medical lab science, SLT, instead.. The only option I see for a medical microbiologist is settling down as a university lecturer, an option which is not always available. Or a research institute. Any contrary opinion?

It's not what you read in the university but what you make out of what you read, okay? Even in the most lucrative professions in the world there are paupers. You better focus on what you will do with what you've learned if you want to be happy with yourself now or in the remote future!

Microbiology is actually not lucrative in Nigeria even if you have a master's degree. The few lucky graduate (first class mostly)get employment as lecturers or actual microbial companies

Lol. Like I said again, private labs prefer hematologists, Medical lab scientists, and science lab technologist to medical microbiologists. I have had such encounter before. It will only make sense if microbiology is also certified and commercialised like MLS. It will intrigue you to find out we have more med microbiologists or microbiologists in the bank than we do in the diagnostic industry today..
With a functioning lab? A diagnostic or a research lab? Please clarify I am interested.

You are right, I studied an education course and I know many education graduates that are doing well for themselves with their certificates. Strong connection is much better than the course one studied.
