I don't know which is worse between GTB and WEMA. I had a similar issue with GTB and couldn't them.

Their email address doesn't go. And whoever is running their Twitter help page is clueless. That one just kept sending me images of a POS machine and what to do in case of a failed POS transaction.

When was the last time you used UBA?
The bank has really upgraded.

Thanks to everyone who took their time to comment on this. I would've personally thanked everyone but it is impossible. I got over 69 mentions and hundreds of comments.

I read through all the comments and I've decided to go with Standard Chartered, Stanbic IBTC, and Union bank. I will open at least two of those.

Thanks to everyone once again.

It's been over a year. But I don't think I will ever return to that bank. My experience with them was terrible.

I hope this will help . The best bank to use without withdrawal charges is STANDARD CHARTERED BANK the customer service is always ready to attend to your request.

I think keystone might just be one of the most effective banks.
I don't even have to call them before they reverse failed transactions.

I am so pissed off right now.

I wasn’t angry when I broke the card. I just wanted to make sure that:

i. I will not be able to use the card or anymore.

ii. I will be forced to open a new regular bank .

The Story (in brief)

I suffered a failed POS transaction yesterday.

I sent Wema ALAT a mail and they are yet to reply as of now (almost 24 hours later).

I called them this morning and listened to a recorded message about how my call may be delayed because of COVID-19. I quickly cut the call. Their customer wasn’t effective before the virus came along, so I wonder what to expect now.

I later visited their bank and the customer care rep told me the transaction will be reversed within 14 days, if they were sure that I was really unable to withdraw the money.

14 days? Why is this so?

The money doesn’t even belong to me and the owner is very angry with me right now. Someone sent it to her and she wanted to use someone else's to receive it, but I convinced her to use me—and then this happened.

Worse, she needs it for feeding and I don't have any money to give her. (She wasn’t paying me for the service in case you’re wondering.)

I suffered the same thing in the hands of GTB. (Their regular customer service email [email protected] isn't even working anymore.)

In fact, I opened a WEMA Alat because of GTB’s failures. I thought Alat will be better since they marketed themselves as a “Digital Bank”, but it appears that I was wrong. They are “digital” in name only.

This should be the third or fourth time WEMA Alat is doing this sort of nonsense to me. And that is without counting the failed mobile and POS transfers.

I am actually not concerned about GTB’s and Wema’s failures. I just hate their terrible customer service.

Failed transactions are one thing. I actually consider them normal. However, poor customer service and unwillingness to quickly solve failed online transactions aren’t. And this is unfortunately common with most banks and businesses in this country.

Now, I’ve have made the decision to stop going cashless. I will start moving around with cash henceforth. I’m sick and tired of all these failed POS transactions and sluggish customer service reps.

I know I will still do some online transactions but that will be occasionally (online shopping, international payments, etc.)

That said, I want you all to answer these two questions:

1. Which bank is reliable for online transactions?

2. Which bank has the most effective customer care service in this country?

I’m thinking of opening a Union bank since I can see they have revamped their business, but I don't want to jump into conclusions as I did with Alat.

Could you all help me out?

P.S. Please UBA and Skye (if this one still exists) are out of the equation. I used them in the past and can confidently say they are terrible. They steal money.

I don’t want Access bank too. I’ve never read anything good about them. They and fraud are relatives. I don’t want Diamond bank either since they are the new owners of Access bank.

So, any suggestions?

First Bank may not be perfect in everything but your money is secure. It is the ONLY bank I trust in Nigeria. Many banks have come and gone.

It is the oldest and I think the only bank backed by the federal govt. In other words, it will never fail.

Go cashless and both police and armed robbers will rob you. Try zenith bank or uba.
felixawe(m): 3:04am On Jun 06, 2020
Gtb is worse, their customer so horrible. When you send mail they will respond using custom mail [email protected] all effort to maintain same correspondence will be lost.
Gtb online chart isn't working.
I think, POS terminal should be cancelled, they have done more harm than good.

Union Banks customer service is Top Notch. I made a simple complain one time and they called the Regional head to follow up my case.

Please Polaris bank (former Skye) dont engage in illegal deduction of their customers money.

Please you are wrong sir/ma.

OP, I doubt there is any perfect bank around here. This is Nigeria. Just choose the one whose ills you can live with or keep your money with you.

Different strokes for different folks, as they say. I transferred an amount I felt I could be able to transfer from my remaining Access Bank balance to Alat just last night.

Yeah, the Wema bank might not be perfect but it's still manageable for now. It's not compulsory, at least yet, to request an ATM card (I don't use one); online app still works smoothly, and the Twitter is responsive.

I sent a complaint email to Access Bank since 26 March (and resent about two weeks ago). The only responses I got was an auto-reply of sorts that it'd take up to 72 hours to respond because of COVID-19. undecided

Somebody is advising you to escalate to CBN. Good luck with that! Them go leave all the issues wey naija Dey face come dey tackle your failed POS transaction.

Please understand that most banks are working with 1/3 of their staff strength due to this pandemic. They too need to observe social distancing. They are humans.

Also, note that breaking your debit card does solve anything. You will still be charged for card maintenance if the card is not blocked.

Looking for great customer service?...UBA is the best. They don’t steal from you. I use them too.
If you get a debit you don’t understand, ask their customer service and they’ll explain. At least they have accessible channels where you can lodge a complaint.

Good luck looking for a perfect bank!

UBA is not a bank. I have an there but my ATM has expired. I don't use the anymore anyway. They were fond of illegally deducting my money back then. They made some funny withdrawals every week or so. Very terrible bank. I still use their AfriCard though, not because I want to but because I have no choice.

Bro you have a choice
there are better banks in Nigeria
I opened my current FCMB online and was giving number immediately.

Why are you still enduring bad services when you can simply open an online with FCMB. You'll get your number immediately.
