Mr Jo Johnson, the younger brother of Prime Minister Boris Johnson, has resigned as an MP and minister, saying he is “torn between family loyalty and national interest”, Igbere TV reports. The minister of State for Universities and Science, and MP for Orpington, Southeast London, cited an “unresolvable tension” in his role as reason behind his decision, in a tweet sighted by Igbere TV on Thursday. “It’s been an honour to represent Orpington for 9 years & to serve as a minister under three PMs. In recent weeks I’ve been torn between family loyalty and the national interest - it’s an unresolvable tension & time for others to take on my roles as MP & Minister. #overandout”, he wrote. A spokesman for Downing Street (Office of Boris Johnson), said the prime minister would like to thank Jo Johnson for his service. “He has been a brilliant, talented minister and a fantastic MP”, he said. “The PM, as both a politician and brother, understands this will not have been an easy matter for Jo. The constituents of Orpington could not have asked for a better representative”, the spokesman added. A former cabinet minister, David Gauke, who once lost to the MP, quoted the tweet and wrote; “Lots of MPs have had to wrestle with conflicting loyalties in recent weeks. None more so than Jo. This is a big loss to Parliament, the government and the Conservative Party.” On her part, Labour’s shadow education secretary, Angela Rayner wrote: “Boris Johnson poses such a threat that even his own brother doesn’t trust him.” Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage said the resignation showed that the “centre of gravity in the Conservative party is shifting rapidly”. But, in a tweet sighted by Igbere TV, Rachel Johnson, the sister of Boris and Jo Johnson, said “the family avoids the topic of Brexit, especially at meals, as we don’t want to gang up on the PM”. http://igberetvnews.com/964442/breaking-british-pm-boris-johnsons-brother-resigns/ 1 Share |

Where are those Nigerians hailing Boris for appointing cabinet in time? He appointed his brother and now the latter knows the former is a disaster to British hence, he opted out. It's not about doing it in time but doing it right.

it was today I watched British ministers debating in parliament upon being one of the world powers the humility of the parliamentarians and the prime minister himself shocked me.they were sometimes shouting at each other but everything is all about their country not politics or showing off expensive wears and designs.we are still far behind

Almost going to 20 rebels from conservatives party. When Cameron resigned? I was so surprised cos was just Brexit votes nothing else.. I never knew he saw the future. Borris Johnson will also resigns like May.. British PM post now is now an Ebola The funniest part, more than 65% of those who voted for Brexit didn't even know what it was all about.. The Irish border palava can never be settled if the British are still going for Brexit. Different country with different Wahala.. Na so Carrie Lam dey face her own problems for Hong Kong.. 10 Likes 1 Share |

The Brits are quite confused sha. It is such a pity the people werent quite informed about the consequences of voting out in the referendum. Such a knotty issue. Boris came in with the vitality of an American Bison thinking he'd bludgeon his way through parliament only to be met with a series of crushing defeats, even worse than was experienced by May. To me they are left with but one choice, another referendum. Parliament doesnt wanna tinker with a No Deal for a second and doesnt want the Nation to crash out of EU. Whatever it is, it is refreshing seeing how they debate their way through this very intricate mase of Brexit. 12 Likes 6 Shares |
