President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) sitting at the Court of Appeal, Abuja to grant access to inspect electoral materials used for the February 23 presidential elections.

The request by President Buhari was brought on Thursday through an exparte application by his lawyers led by Wole Olanipekun (SAN).

The application, which is hinged on the provisions of Section 151 (1) and (2) of the Electoral Act, is asking the Court of Appeal to compel INEC to allow access to inspect and make copies of the documents and to be certified as true copies by the electoral umpire.

The application followed the similar request by the candidate of the PDP in the election, Atiku Abubakar, to compel INEC to produce the Voters , the Smart Card Reader Machines, Ballot Papers, site back ends, and other sensitive materials for inspection and scanning.

The application was granted on March 6 by the appellate court.

Oh my Nigeria...

its a pity we are in the times the Judiciary, the supposed third arm of Govt of the Nation now deems it fit to take authority from the Executive before discharging it's duties...

How low can we go?... where is the pride in training our babies to become lawyers..

Another institution bites the dust.

Buhari lacks the power to grant an ex parte order in any court.
The tribunal already granted Atiku the right to inspect electoral materials but refused
to allow forensic scanning which is the best form of fraud detection.

Daily trust should stop employing half-baked journalists that give Buhari god-like power.

“I am declining assent to the Bill principally because I am concerned that ing a new electoral bill this far into the electoral process for the 2019 general election which commenced under the 2015 Electoral Act, could create some uncertainty about the applicable legislation to govern the process.

The OP's heading is misleading! The body of the write up says the President is requesting through his lawyers access to inspect election materials. Most people don't bother to read through before making comments.......

Esseite, Buhari asking tribunal access in law means he is applying to the court to allow his lawyers access to inspect, copy, scan the certified copies of the Election results. If you had for example contested under a party say AD, the news flash will read. Esseite, presidential candidate of AD asked tribunal to grant access to inspect election materials....same thing
