In 1948, University College Ibadan started as an offshoot of University of London, and all certifications obtained within were from Senate House, off Shaftesbury Avenue in London. Even with this practice came the choice of Ibadan's first Nigerian Principal, then later V.C, Kenneth Dike, the eminent Historian.

U.C.I continued to be a College of University of London until it became a full and independent University in its own deserved right in 1962.

I can even recall the fond memories as a noisy kid with my other school-mates running around Abadina through Vet. Sci with its horse stables, into and through Bookshop, Clock Tower, on our way daily to the Acadamic Office, whilst plucking sweet berries planted beside stony building walls.

To boot, after the civil war, General Yakubu Gowon got his way and established the Jos Campus of U.I. in 1972 and graduates were awarded IBADAN degrees and diplomas UNTIL 1976, imho, then UniJos kicked off with its first and proper matriculation just like Ibadan had done in 1962/1963.

It was not an offshoot it was a College. Those who say ths are clearly ignorant of what a Collegiate University is and should take time to read up on it. Not evry University operates such a system . In fact moost do not. But it is worth studying.

You are deceiving yourself. UI's many research works are in what fields. How many world leading and ground breaking scientific works have come from UI. I will mention three Igbo profs whose scientific works beat everything that has come out of yoruba land. Guy, be careful and stick to the topic.

Federal school of surveying was not a university, it did not award degrees.
University college Ibadan was not a university, it did not award degrees.
UNN is the first university in Nigeria. Its name says that.

But it is a foreign owned university with classrooms in Ibadan. It was not a Nigerian uni, was not run by nigerians, could not award degrees except with overseas approval, in fact it was just a block of class.
