I just got back from the internship fair in ilorin. It was fun and stressful at thesame time. let me give u guys a brief summary...
7:30 am i arrived at the venue of the fair, looking like the least dressed...o boy, i bow head for the kind of shoes and tros i saw. So make sure u clean up well, so that you wont be intimidated.
8:45 we lined up for the accreditation process( dont be surprise, they had some logistic situations). They requested for the printed copy of the invitation mail, original nysc certificate, original degree certificate(i had my statement) and most importantly your national i.d card or voters card, any recognised form of identification will be ok. we were given a tag showing our names and our course study,i attached dat to my breast pocket.
10:20 Now am sitted in hall along with so many people, employers are just coming in and some graduate are yet to complete the accreditation process.
11:00am Now the event has just began. The m.c introduced the organisers and the program implementation unit. A brief lecture was held on how to for the program, the duties of the employers and their interns. Sip of soda..wbrb

12 noon. The matching of graduate with employers commenced, it was a very rowdy section. You know Nigerian youths now, no body wan carry last. The normal procedure was for d employers to name the field of study they wanted. The ushers will then jejely leads the prospective interns to meat the employers. But na lie!! Guys vex and start going to confront the employers themselves. After a brief interview some were released, while others were hired. As pa d quite boy i be , i no even comot from my sit. People were coming back and making all sorts of lamentation..and some were even leaving. If you were hired, you will be given a form to complete. Your employers will have to sign and stamp the form. Now you submit the form to the Sure p officials. And give your employers the blue copy. By the corner is the bank people, they will also get a copy of the form and give you a form to open your for your monthly stipends.

2pm: Am still here in the hall, i was still angry at myself for missing out on the nylon of meat pie and grandmalt dat was shared few moments ago. So i stood up and told myself i won't go home empty handed. Now the crowd are calm. Many have gone home. So i started my own confrontations, d first employer i met wanted me to choose btw Sunday service and the job. So, if i have not leant anything in my entire life. My parent taught me GOD first in all u do. So i turned down their offer. Many people were so desperate, they took it. I walked around for a while and i got nothing.

3pm ..am getting frustrated now and i wanted to leave. But something just kept my yansh for dat seat. A few minutes later, a nice gentleman who have bin walking around for a while approached me. I tell you , i think say na someone like who dey find placement....ohhh . To cut d long story short, I got a placement with an IT firm, with very suitable working conditions. Other people who wait behind till d end of d program got matched with different firms. My advice to prospective interns, don't be in hurry, patience is rewarding(surulere) and don't be too desperate. From what i saw today over 50 % got matched to different firm. Dats is one out of two. It a good number. Go with an open mind, the program and selection is very fair. Am to start working on monday, am wishing all prospective interns the very best. God bless Nigeria!!

I fear for some of the Interns matched at Enugu Fair. Some of the companies involved in the process over there were not approved and as such the Company will NEVER be up for intern matching online. The interns believe they are successful after the manual matching at the fair, For a matching process to be successfully done, the company has be be approved. If approved, the company becomes 'Active' online and can be seen on the matching screen. A particular company at the Enugu fair absorbed 6 interns and they all thought they have been properly matched, after one of the intern ed me, I discovered that the company was not even approved. To all concerned: Ask questions, make sure the Company who you were matched with is approved, so you don't waste your time.

How then do we know if the company is approved? Who do we ask, Since Sure P isn't responding

Lol,
I was at the ilorin fair too,
My day also went the way you just described,
Am just glad that my "Gentle-manissim" worked out all those desperate graduates almost ruined the event. I sat down waiting patiently for the ushers but none came (B.sc ing) when all hope was lost I approached an Audit firm and pleaded with them to grant me an interview which they relunctantly did, to cut it short they asked some professional questions about the Auditing professional and I was able to answer perfectly ( While waiting on my seat I was reading about ing on my phone).
To cut the story short I was lucky to be among the 2 selected out of the 10 interviewed.
congratulations to you bro

As a Non-SURE-P GIS staff, You can only know if a company is approved by logging into their portal, but I am aware that will be a difficult task for any intern. The problem actually comes from the fact that most companies cannot tell their status even when they to their portal. A clear indication that a company is not yet approved is if a company logs into its and sees ACCESS DENIED clearly written in Red in there, It shows the company is not yet approved, unfortunately the VENDORS that processes the invitation of companies for the internship fairs on behalf of SURE-P go ahead and reserve a space for some Unapproved companies to get matched with interns. Approval of companies is not done at the Internship Fair venue, though companies penciled down for Internship fair involvement get priority approvals, especially when the fair draws closer. ("To all concerned: Ask questions, make sure the Company who you were matched with is approved, so you don't waste your time".) To explain this earlier quote by me: It's highly unlikely that an Intern can find out the status of a company at the fair, but if and when you do not receive your Congratulatory email and the company seem not to know the steps to take, Ask the company to if they have been approved, so that you don't continue working with an Unapproved company - wasting your valuable time in the process.
