I saw many of such in the north. No English of any sort, only Hausa. If you’re exposed to English as a Nigerian, you will pick pidgin with ease. I only know of people who tire quick of the language because they concentrate more on English.

He can't, we laugh at him when he tries, nigga lived in the village in the early age of his life, probably broken wasn't popular then, I think people in there 70s or 80 years are not popular with pidgin especially if they went to school
Story. My old man went to the best schools in his time University of Ibadan and also did another program in university of Nigeria Nsukka. He speaks our native language, pidgin and pure English. My mom also a former state librarian and also well educated speaks them all fluently. Maybe Ur dad just didn't mingle with people from other states cos going through the four walls of a university even today U must relate with others from another ethnic group and what better way to do it when amongst friends and course mates during leisure. Either English but mostly pidgin/broken. I say again, people don't know how to speak pidgin English for various reasons and being educated isn't one of them.

As a bona-fide barrack boy, Pidgin was my first language for over a decade. I understood Hausa but couldn't speak the language. Then I went to secondary school; a newly opened Catholic school then. After the first term, during the holiday, switching back to default settings was a difficult process. I had lost my pidgin but had taken in English. And my Hausa had also improved a bit. However, after my first year, cross-influence got me speaking pidgin at school and English back home.
