Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation Hadin Kai have repelled a heavy attack by ISWAP terrorists on an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Mallam Fatori, Borno State.

According to a post shared on Thursday by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X, the attack happened in the early hours of Wednesday.

“More than 150 terrorists launched a coordinated assault on the army’s position from the Kaniram axis,” Makama reported.

The terrorists were said to be advancing on foot, firing Automatic Grenade Launchers (AGLs) and using armed drones against the troops’ main defense area.

Makama said the soldiers responded quickly by using mortars and tank fire to stop the attackers, targeting their entry points from the western side.

“After a heavy gun battle that lasted for about four hours, the terrorists managed to break into part of the IDP camp,” the post said.

However, the troops regrouped and used stronger firepower to push back the terrorists, forcing them to retreat in confusion.

Nigerian Airforce needs to be able to reach any crises centre or point within 15 minutes, locked, loaded and ready to bomb terrorists to smithereens. We need to put the fear of God in terrorists. Anyone around terrorists apart from hostages is a legitimate target.

Why attack an IDP camp?

IDP camps are where food and other essentials are delivered, and where an informal economy based on cash has been set up (There is an IDP camp for Somalis in Kenya that is basically a city state in all but name)...Hence attractive for boko to loot.

They rehab terrorists because at the end, it is better to at least save some than to do something like kill all of them and risk the blood fertilising a new crop of violent martyrs....or jail all of them in our overstretched prisions....

A lot of murderers and terrorists in Liberia and Sierra Leone got money and a radio at the end of the wars there. Many of them were responsible for lovely things like cutting off people's hands, and killing thousands. At the end, what is to be done?

If not that people in power are involve. They could have used aerial drones to trace them back to point of departure.

So there it is. Terrorists now have capabilities non of our ground forces possess. For you to get an idea how much of a game changer this is for the terrorists, armed drones are the reason why Russia is struggling in Ukraine.
