Great idea, even the US has one. But the challenge is somebody will use it to cash out and won't deliver the job

It's probably gonna be a concrete or steel fence with cameras, not the block fence we use for houses...

But your comment is funny sha... "Block wey no strong" 😂😂😂

Concrete fense at all border areas that will cover a very large areas in miles, where FG go see that money to carry this out!

The thing is that they'll start with more critical places, I don't think they plan on doing it overnight, but it's all a proposal in the meantime.

To be honest, we must take border security seriously, so fencing isn't a bad idea.

Yes we can afford it and that's the best, but the reality is that it's not going to happen now cos the cabals won't approve it. It's achievable after regionalizing the country.

If it solves the problem and Nigeria can afford it why not?
It may very well be our best option. We need peace.

Do you really believe a fence will prevent people from coming in? I can't believe we can be this simple minded. What kind of fence do you think this should be? ... a chain link fence? ... wood fence? ...forget cost ... and how high should this fence be? Some people just need to be stoned.

The fencing contract should be handed over to an Israeli construction firm. They are very good at putting up boundary fence with good security surveillance systems.

Nigeria's Defence Chief, General Christopher Musa, has ignited a major debate by proposing a complete fence along Nigeria's borders with Cameroon, Niger, Chad, and Benin to combat escalating insecurity and the influx of armed groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP. Citing examples like Pakistan's fence with Afghanistan, he argues this is critical for Nigeria's survival and sovereignty. In this video, we break down this unprecedented proposal, analyzing the reasons behind it, the immense potential costs, logistical challenges, socio-economic impacts, and whether this controversial measure can truly solve Nigeria's deep-rooted security crisis. Is fencing the nation a viable strategy or a sign of desperation?

Hope you saw men there guarding and watching over the fence?
You think your Nigerian border protection officers who don't care what is happening at the borders now that they're unfenced with suddenly start monitoring them when they're finally fenced?
You don't know that the fence can be breached or climbed if there are no guards monitoring it?
You guys are so gullible!

You dey mind them. Always putting the cart before the horse. Na "iron condemn" people go hack down the fence and export the metals scavenged from the fence to China for recycling.

Unfortunately AFRICOM has the wherewithal and financial sources to defeat any fence the country could erect. The military Oga at the top has to come up with a better plan/idea.

will the nigerian fence be bomb proof?

if nigerian military cannot fight boko haram, is it bricklayers that will now build fence were nigerian military is afraid to fight?
grin If terrorists should bridge the fence with bombs at any section, the authorities will immediately be alerted by AI relays.
It will make it difficult for terrorists to move in and out quickly and provide security forces, with ample time to prepare defenses.
Even on the battlefield, you need defensive structures or fortifications like moats, landmines, dragon's teeth etc.
Military masons will build the walls under heavy security. Infact, such wall, is long overdue

Wetin dis wan they yan? After it is built, they will watch over it from the city fence.

It will work only if our customs & immigration officer won't take bribe. PBAT should have done this in his first year instead of Calabar/Lagos needless highways.
Land mines should also be added around the wall to curtail the herdsmen from magreb angry .
The Fulanis in Nigeria are not that harmful after all we have been living peacefully for decades to the extent that they give free milk and cheese when you say hello to them. Nigeria is under invaders from magreb, North and Central Africa herders

Many roads are being fixed.

What are you talking about?

Travel round the country more instead of sitting disgruntled and despondent, thinking nothing is moving.
Who's this? Which roads? Dey deceive yourself. I just came back from Ado ekiti( also visited fed teaching hospital precisely). Worst now that I left it last October with people diverting their course to okemesi and ikoro, to burst out at ijero

You must have barriers, especially in the Sahel axis, make it inaccessible... sometimes building a canal across sections also serve as a barrier.

I building a wall, human lives are valuable, it's better we spend our money building a wall and protecting our nation from wanton infiltration by terrorists than have political office holders stealing the funds.

It should be done using reinforced concrete high enough to prevent climbing

Simple in what sense? Why are fences built in the first place?
Are chain link and wood fences the most effective type of fences?
This is not a novel idea, there are many countries like the US and some countries in Europe with border fences.
sanya4good(m): 10:34am On Jun 05
Less than half of the money for Lagos - Calabar Coastal road is more than enough to fence our international borders using precast reinforced concrete.

SmartPolician:
Where will the money come from?

You think say to fence borders na one kobo.

The military should focus more on flushing out its fifth columnists.

Don't mind them. The majority of these people don't know what they're saying. They just want to cash out like everyone is doing in every istration. It will cost Nigeria 5 times of it's annual budget to do this. Nigeria is actually larger than what they told us on map. You could drive up 4 hours from nasarawa to benue town on that new road and 4 hours from Abuja to Jos which looks very close. There's a town called kosubosu, it's a border town in kwara. Building a fence there along Niger and Benin republic alone will sink our 1yr annual budget. It's such a massive place and very porous. That's where kwara tokunbo dealers smuggle their vehicles through to Nigeria. It's another elephant project in the making.

With a proper leader and followers in place, insecurity is the least of our problems but everyone has compromised, including the security operatives who work for and sell arms to terrorists
