This coastal road project is unnecessary. The government should instead prioritize initiatives that stimulate sustainable economic growth. This includes creating a viable business environment to attract both foreign and domestic investment, while simultaneously empowering local businesses.

This would generate more meaningful employment opportunities, directly addressing the root causes of poverty and reducing the alarming crime rates fueled largely by joblessness and desperation.

The existing roadway linking Lagos to the South-South region already provides the necessary connectivity. Rather than embarking on a costly new project, the government should focus on efficiently rehabilitating and maintaining the existing road to ensure it remains safe and fully motorable.

This will represents a far more strategic allocation of public resources than the coastal road, which appears to be a misplaced priority.
The coastal road is a game-changer, not a waste. It connects 9 states to Lagos ports, unlocking billions in agriculture, oil, and tourism. The current roads are deadly, slow, and full of kidnappers—costing businesses ₦4B daily in delays.

This project creates 200,000+ jobs and boosts big industries like Dangote’s refinery. Fixing old roads every few years wastes ₦150B, while this modern highway lasts 50+ years. Without it, Nigeria loses trade to rivals like Cameroon.

Bottom line: The road isn’t just pavement—it’s jobs, safety, and Nigeria’s future as West Africa’s top economy. Delaying it means getting left behind.

The South-East needs to be left alone to enjoy their sit at homes while others make their way to the South-South via the ongoing coastal highway.

I said it since oooo. How much does it cost to dredge the River Niger all the way to lokoja and how much is the so called highway? Imagine the difference dredging the River Niger would have made. Even collaborate with the state government and build ports all around the river line. It’d have been more beneficial than this glorified main road. As for those shouting toll gates, factor the cost not the landing or clearing payments per container. QED

Is that not partly the reason why you have state governments?

State governments are not responsible for INTERstate roads.
That is a federal government responsibility.

Only a few folks from one tiny section of Nigeria are complaining as usual. Let South-South breath. Roads full North, viable or not and this one is viable.

These are same initiative by some past leaders and till date we didn't see the impact and visible implementation sir and yet they have took the budget from the deral purse and till date no improvement.

But with this high way it will be there forever and it's visible enough for everyone to see even in 100years time the credit will still goes to Tinubu ..

Kudos to APC istration for that bro 🍷 and

No doubt 🧐

I was going to ignore your shallow rant, but knowing that ignorance is a disease that can be easily ed on to others on NL, I decided to make a quick response.

The first 47 km was commissioned, not 4km. Secondly, and more importantly, that section was completed in 12 months or less, not 2 years, as you would have the gullible followers believe.
Construction started in March/April of 2024. Different sections of the road will take different time frames to complete. Lagos will more than likely take longer because of houses that have to be demolished. Once they get to the less populated areas, it might go faster. Completing 47km in 12 months is a good feat by any world standard.
Whether you think it's necessary or needed is inconsequential; what matters is that those who need this road are happy about it.
Not every idea will please everyone.

More details:
Start Date: March 2024.
Phase 1: A 47.47-kilometer stretch from Ahmadu Bello Way in Lagos to Lekki Phase 1.
Commissioning: The first 30km section of Phase 1 was commissioned by President Tinubu on May 31, 2025.
Contractor: Hitech Construction Company.
Expected Completion: The entire highway is expected to be completed in eight years.

BYE

I wouldn't give you a knowing you have not done the calculation I told you to do, whether it was 47km out of 700 + km done in a year or 4km, I don't think am far away from statistical measures of possibilities....

The logistics involved alone for the President to come and commission the 47km which is just a section is enough to do a 4km of it ...

And by the way, do we have to be inviting the President for every section completed Who brought that sense should know it was uncommon of him and for you to defend it shows you have a shallow thinking and that a danger to people hoping to hear good news about this road construction and people expecting Nigeria to have an all round progress not just on sections of roads ....

Finally, can you tell me the revenue generated so far from the first section commissioned by the President? If each section means Alot to the Government

You may think you know all about the road, but the end s will tell you they prefer the road they know than this one government is constructing as there are little or no security / viable structures in the hinterland areas were this road will ....

No man goes naming all his Children before they are born, is one after another ......i guess that's what your team is doing, well done anyway as you said my points does not concern the shallow thinkers ....

We are yet to come out the fuel Subsidy scam from the Government and the devastating effects it is yielding, and all that can come to the mind of the President and his entourage is to start a road construction that will cost #33 trillion Naira

While the federal roads are yet to be fixed? Even the federal roads that have been existing since , there are bandits , kidnappers , arm robbers etc on the routes ....

How can you now convince a driver or car owner to follow a road that is in the outskirts of his town when the one inside the town is not safe?

There are tooooooooooooo many important issues facing Nigeria that this idea of a Road construction project should be coming in a second tenure not in his first tenure that is full of irregularities and propaganda ..

The Three refineries that we all jubiliated and clapped that they are working now, have all gone into maintenance again...

What of the discos, electricity?..... tariffs are high but to boost of 15 hrs electric light is like an impotent man boosting he will have twins...

Things are very costly , so costly that it is thrice the former price...
And you are busy calling on the former Presidents who couldn't start the road construction....because they have the interest of the masses at heart...

I don't know if I should say this is a total waste of resources, or a plan to cover up the lootings that has been done.

30 kilometers out of 700 kilometers, not even 30%..

SHAME OO!!

Anyways, what we see is what we get and what we get is what we see 🤐

I don’t understand you guys. All the things you mentioned are being done already, I don’t see how this road has prevented the government from running its other affairs. You guys are strange.

With minds like yours, 3rd mainland bridge would never have existed because “we already have other roads”. 🤦‍♂️

Isn't it supposed to be a ten lane highway? Money allocated for ten lanes.... scaled down to six no refund... but here I'm seeing four only. But yet some are shouting good development. Wike should've been in charge of this project.

My brother you are right 👍
Infact I really understand what is going on...

But the answer is that the removal of subsidy reset the economy..

Look at this..

If SUBSIDY wasn't a problem in Nigeria.

1. Jonathan won't say he wants to remove it
2. Bihari won't say he wants to remove it
3. Even obi said he will remove it
4. Atikue said it too he must remove it .
5. Tinubu finally remove .

What's am trying to say here is that if any of them remove it before Tinubu we would have been facing all this high traffic and cost of items before Tinubu came in power 🤔..

Are you think what what am thinking??

because the result will be high in fuel price and the masses will start paying for what they use..

Go to US and UK Canada etc 🤔
Electricity
Water
Hospital
Road toll gate
Tax 😡

You pay heavily for it and that's why their country is a top notch.

But here in Nigeria the citizens have a different mentality that we are not ready to PAY for any but we want to be like the Canada and UK etc 🤔

All because WE WANT BASIC AMENITIES TO BE COMPLATELY FREE
.even goto Ghana you will realize as at today Nigeria is still the best country to live ...

Our PROBLEM IS THAT WE BELIEVE LIGHT, WATER , SCHOOL, ROAD TOLL GATE, TAX FREE AND WE DONT WANT TO PAY FOR ANYTHING BUT WE NEED TOTAL DEVELOPMENT 🤔

NO COUNTRY IN THE WORLD YOU WILL SEE THAT
