I have always tried to educate those around me concerning this issue but it seems they have already decided on what to believe or what not to.
Just about 4 years ago when I was staying in Ghana, that was when I realised that the whole Ghana Economy is centred around Accra and it's not bigger than just Lagos economic. It's disrespectful comparing Ghana to Nigeria aside security and electricity.
Then, noodle that we would buy in Nigeria for ₦400 was sold in Ghana for an equivalent of ₦1,200.
If I were Tinubu, I would damn the consequences and redenominate the naira, remove just 000 and make the dollar to a naira become $1 = ₦1.60 Kobo. Make we see if these illiterate go still see something to talk about.
Though, it's embarrassing and shameful that the dollar is exchanging at ₦1,600 as at today, it should have been around ₦500 at least. The CBN needs to work on this, it doesn't sounds well to the ears
around 2011/2014...ghana was way better than nigeria relating to your price of items. Then i could use 50 pesewas for transportation..the same indomie was sold for around 1ghana. The direction ghana economic went through from 2015 up is the same direction Nigeria's economy is now following.

Same 2011/2014 when Goodluck was president and a bag of rice was sold for around 6-8k and that same noodle was sold for about ₦120? Those years you mentioned was when Nigeria economic was 1 million times better than the Ghana Economy.
There was never a time till now when the Ghanian economy was rated above Nigeria, even though they are fast catching up now

Using price of item as the basis during Goodluck's tenure, Ghana was better...when was the last time Nigeria Used coin. During goodluck's tenure can you buy pure water with 50Kobo ? But i was buying pure water in ghana with 50 pesewas and even enter taxi with 50 pesewas. Which was equivalent to 50kobo.

Exactly bro.its absolutely madness to exchange 1 dollar for 1,600 naira.

Nigerians don't get it. Our leaders know exactly what to do to drop the FX drastically. Ghana's economy and GDP is not even 1/3 of Nigeria's. Our industrial progression and presence is more. The issue with Nigeria is "Stealing Leaders" its easier to still in dollars when the FX is high. We know our problem.

you asked a question, i simply gave you a proper example, that will make you know the answer to your question.

9usd is about N14k, 9Ghc Is about N1200...9USD is about 90ghc. 90GHC is equivalent to N9k.

50 pesewas was never equivalent to 50 Kobo. Add the 0000 that was removed from their currency and it made 50 pesewas equivalent to about ₦500. Meaning pure water that was sold for ₦10 in Nigeria was sold for ₦500 in Ghana. Na that 0000 that they removed they deceive una.
Minimum was in Ghana was about 300 cedis or so and if we are to go with your calculation of 50 pesewas been equivalent to 50 Kobo, does that means their minimum wage of 300 cedis was also equivalent to ₦300? Meaning Ghana minimum was as at then was ₦300 why Nigeria was ₦17,500. So which was better?

Also, a litre of fuel in Ghana was sold at 12 cedis, does that means they were selling a litre of fuel for ₦12 if we are to go with your calculation of 50 pesewas been equivalent to 50 Kobo?

bro u sure say u really stay for ghana??...In this argument Equivalent is different from the exchange rate. 10USD is equivalent to N1000....Na just lesser zeros. Same as Cent/kobo. Pesewas is to Kobo. 50 pesewas is equivalent to N50, And i actually bought pure water with 1pesewas not 50 pesewas ( since we dont gave kobo anymore)....And by 2011/2012, Ghana cedis was slightly better that naira in exchange rate. 50 Pesewas would give you around N76.

They are not the first to do it and won't be the last as several great nations have done it before.

We didn't say they were first or last to do it

The point is they did consolidate their currency and Nigeria didn't

@Guobe need to go and learn more about economy. What Ghana did was just simply renaming it did not make there economy bad or good. They decided to call 10000 cedis 1 cedis which brought down exchange rate but no direct impact on cost of goods or purchasing power. It is like Nigeria can decide to do same so now 1$ will equal 0.16# but minimum wage will also become 7 naira, your salary will also be divided by 10000. Your house or property value if they are 1M now they will become 100 naira. If you earn 300k salary , it will be 30 naira. How earth does it affect emigration. Nigeria wanted to do same but there were complaints from Nigerians then.

Good one, Nigerian CBN governor and economic team should be challenged by this.

Promote production and we must halt importation of fuel.

I don't know why they are bittered about Ghana redominating their currency 17 years ago.
Who is holding Nigeria from doing its own redomination or partial redomination.

Ghanas ceddi is a joke

The question you should ask is how much is a bottle of water in Ghana,or what will one ceddi buy, compared with Nigeria naira

Then you will have your answer

It is not, the Ghanian currency does not reflect the strength of their economy. They are doing what Nigeria did for many years. The reason we are not like South Korea or Indonesia today.
Tinubu broke that jinx and with time the economy will come back to life and nobody will even talk about the exchange rate against the dollar.

I live in Canada and here is a sample of Ghana's product, I am an Urhobo man, banga soup and rice is our signature. Banga cream, just a tin can give me a pot of soup. It's sold for $8 here

brain54:

Ask your American friend what those made in Ghana products are...

That are found in American supermarkets.

To prevent the spread of false narratives.

Apart from gold, Cocoa which they are a major world supplier, palm oil and the other "natural" resources they export Ghana doesn't produce anything significant talkless of exporting them. I am talking of finished processed goods.

Ghana's economy is import dependent even more than the Nigerian economy.

A small nation that depends on other countries even for her food needs.

I believe Nigeria that is technically at war- bokoharam and with many security challenges etc still produce more food to meet local consumption compared to Ghana!
