An Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) staff, Mustapha Isa lost his life on Thursday, May 29, when he was making repairs on an electrical fault in the Mabushi area of Abuja.

Isa was working on top of the electrical pole at about 5:50 p.m and was electrocuted, fell from the poll and sustained a fatal head injury.

Reports says Isa was working in Mabushi-office when the electrocution happened.

Isa was rushed to the General Hospital in Gwarinpa and was declared dead on arrival. Later, his corpse was taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi for autopsy.

Management of AEDC has described this incident as “a deeply regrettable tragedy” and have sent their condolences.

They pledged to improve safety measures and training to prevent such occurrences in the future.

The company has faced criticism over workers safety in the past, with concerns regarding inadequate equipment and safety protocols.

Don't they have adequate Health and Safety standards they adhere to?

Why is it difficult for their bosses to acquire proper safety kits and devices that will enable them do their jobs properly

RIP to the deceased though.

Don't blame people all the time. I believe his colleagues didn't turn off the light and maybe accidentally his upper hand touched the naked wire. He fell down because he wasn't on his safety belt. Not all the time you blame Leaders and Bosses, it seems you don't have any plans or ambitions to rise to the top, to become a CEO.... Change your mindset so you can grow

If it happened to another person, they will tag him a vandal. Now, they cannot properly kit their staff with safety gadgets.

Mustapha might be one of those guys who will tell you that they've been doing the job eons ago unknown that safety is the first thing.

It happens to almost every body, everyday. I told my students yesterday that not using of safety belt could kill one falling from the pole.

Condolences to his family.

Preventable.
Matter of fact, every accident is preventable.

If only he had switched off 1st before working on the installation
If only he had worn a body harness to prevent a fall
If only he had worn insulation hand gloves & correct PPE.
If only...

70percent of jobs in Nigeria(whether high or low jobs) use informal process in istering work roles. No adequate working gears. They just do it anyhow and compromise!

As an employee in a Nigerian industry, always be wise as a serpent when you are being given roles, or when they send you errands in workplace. They don't care about your life!

Safety measures should have been put in place before allowing him to start that repair. I hate this kinda news.
