Pearl, just because another driver isn’t making the "kind of money" you are making doesn’t mean they’re lazy. Honestly, your comments don’t sound much different from those who come here to put down this hustle.

Everyone has their own reasons for doing this job, your goals and expectations is not be the same as someone else’s. So why try to impose yours on them?.

Must we wait until we hear bad news about your colleagues before you understand that not everyone has the same grace or capacity?

The person who shared his weekly target works mostly at night, do you realize how risky that is? Night driving comes with serious dangers, and not everyone can or should operate that way.

Let’s be more careful and thoughtful with how we place our expectations on people.

I have never defined a lazy driver from the amount of money they make.
I never say or expect anyone to work like I do.
But if I say I make 100k a day and someone says that a lie, it's not possible, then I will tell the person to shutup and get lost.

Just like every one has his own pattern and intent of the Hussle, so will everyone have a different experience. U will never hear me mock the man who earns 10k a day or says he is okay if he makes 20k he goes home.

But u see what I will never keep quiet about is someone making a blanket statement (which is majorly negative) about this job.

The issue of night work is by the way, even if u aren't driving , every sensible adult knows going out at night is dangerous, so I don't see whats new in what u guys keep hammering night night night.
We can only advise the man to be careful, pray for him and wish him well rather than always trying to burst his bubble. I am 100% sure he has reasons of being compelled to working only at night. Not that he chooses to or is at liberty to do so.

Secondly, I don't hear people telling Pilots, sailors and rig workers to quite their jobs because of the risks involved. It's nauseating to me to be quite frank when people keep pushing one form of negative narrative or another on the hussle or on people doing it devotedly.

U brought up a case of losing a friend due to d hussle, implying if u work too hard bad things happen. To what end?
I also told u someone who didn't take d work too seriously also had an accident while driving
I know a guy who doesn't stress himself, he stays home until he gets a trip and comes back home after a few trips. He has developed some health issues which has even made him reduce his time driving. My point is, God forbid bad things happen to people. We should not be fast to point to d fact that he was doing X,Y,Z too much, that's d reason for his predicament. If this guy was a hardworker and u knew him, u would have said it's because of his work. But even the people that don't work so hard also have things happening to them.

Lastly, on this thread "lazy drivers" is not an insult. It's just a classification of people who do the job lightly, within a few hours, and are okay with going home with half of the possible average income.

The Pearl I talk to on the phone and the one chatting here on Nairaland feel like two different people. Honestly, it’s like someone else is typing under your moniker.

You're mixing things up too much. What exactly is your definition of a "lazy driver"? Someone shared their weekly target(250k after expenses) and wants others to jump on the same challenge. But if a driver tries it and doesn’t meet the mark, does that suddenly make them lazy?

Not everyone is built the same mentally or physically. Pushing people to meet a certain target can make them feel like they’re not doing enough, and that kind of pressure can lead to serious consequences.

All I’m saying is: let everyone work at their own pace and within their own capacity. The guy with a 2010 Corolla and an iPhone 14? He’s just doing this hustle as a side gig. The Obidi giy aiming for 250k? Maybe he's chasing a JAPA and needs to hit that target. Another driver might be setting a 100k or 150k goal just so he can protect his mental health and take care of his car.

I’m only saying this because I don’t want anyone to break down mentally while out there on the road. If after all this you still don’t get my point, then maybe there’s no need to explain further.

I am not nice online.
Many people say the same thing when they chat me on Whatsapp or calls. grin

Now, U read my post and quoted it and still asked what is my definition of a lazy driver when it's literally defined there.

Ur point is valid; not everyone is wired same way.
But he wasn't forcing anybody to do what he is doing. How is his post in anyway demoralizing or emotionally damaging to others? On the flip side u are demoralizing the man for trying to do what most people will not try to do.
You are making him feel alone and weird.

It's a challenge anybody doing less can take, and I personally would take it if I wasn't doing more already.
Truthfully for me, it's things like this that gives me motivation to go out every morning. Keeps me on my toes as I select and accept trips and fuels my energy to keep going even when I am tired or don't feel like it.

Anyone who jumps on it, and doesn't reach it, would have done something close and will only know one thing is sure, there is a better way of doing this.
For me, this is the way to go on this thread. To carry everyone along. Not tomorrow someone will say a driver can't pay for 5m car in two years. Or save up to 1m in a year.

I am not sure u are really saying pushing people to achieve more is a bad thing. I am sure u are a Manager at ur office and u don't allow ur reports slack on d job because u don't want them to have mental or emotional breakdown grin

U may have ed the wrong impression in ur post, but what u portrayed was that if he works too hard, something will happen to him and that is what I am against.

no matter how you want to motivate or push someone, you can't push them beyond their limits.

someone that makes 100k a week might feel fulfilled more than someone that makes 250k a week, what's important is we all should be able to meet up at the point of our needs

I read your post carefully, and I still don’t understand what you meant by “lazy drivers”, you didn’t actually define it. Maybe you can clarify that so we’re on the same page.

Also, neither you nor anyone else is in a position to tell drivers what they should be making weekly. If someone wants to aim for more than 250k, that’s fine. If another person makes 150k or less, that’s also perfectly okay as long as they put in the effort.

I work in a corporate environment, and I’ve learned that there’s a thin line between motivation and unhealthy competition. Personally, I focus more on encouraging effort than praising just the result.

If someone puts in the effort and the results don’t show immediately, I won’t criticize them—as long as there’s consistency and commitment. With time, the results will come.

In my opinion, Obidi could’ve simply encouraged others by saying something like “we go again this week to set your targets and try to meet them” instead of throwing out a specific figure. It came across more like he was flexing than encouraging (but I could be wrong.)

Thats the only way.
Your license plug will be the one doing the runnings. They know where to go and who to meet.
U can just keep renewing it if u don't want the stress and if u still want to use the car for ehailing, I will definitely advise u keep renewing it, it's just 4k yearly. Not a big deal.

U are over flogging this matter.
It's not deep, except for people who take offense for reasons best known to them.
Also u are shifting goal post from the original issues u raised in ur response.
Below is what Obed posted. This is in no way flexing, disturbing, or offensive.

Like I said, I see it as motivation and encouragement, if u see it as intimidating and flexing that's on u. What I was responding was the fact that u equate hardwork with misfortune.

For the upteenth time, I have never on this thread fixed an income target for all drivers. This is a false allegation.
I can give average income limits for full-time drivers or how much one should make per hour of driving. Anyone who doesn't like what I do can jolly well dive into d ocean.
I will not allow anyone to censor me or shut me up.

I have already said if you like make 5k daily, that's not my business, but if out of ur own limited experience, u now come and say I am lying, its not possible, it's photoshop, cos I said I make 50k daily,, I will not let it slide.

Whatever is worth doing is worth doing well.
Satisfy your conscience that if they ask you what u did with your life, u can confidently speak up.
Don't allow fear to stop u, u might fail but what if u succeed. However, if u don't try, u only have one guaranteed outcome.

Brotherly,

I’m not a driver I’m simply an investor in this business. I don't condone laziness, I only said everyone isn't built the same to produce the same output. Stop bringing your frustration with people who speak badly about this hustle into this conversation. Try to look at things objectively.

In all my years of doing hire purchase, I’ve never given that would put my partner’s life at risk or make it impossible for him to meet payments. You know why? I believe in giving people a fair chance, no matter who they are. Even the HP offer I gave Ola here, you thought it was a scam.

I can point to many hardworking and intelligent men who are still living hand to mouth. It’s not just about hard work my guy, grace plays a big role, along with understanding the politics of life, which a lot of people fail to see.

That talk about working at night was just to highlight that the same Obedi guy works both day and mostly at night to hit his target. Would you expect a family man accept the same target, knowing the risks that come with night driving? Maybe out of pressure, he will decide to do night work and God forbid the worse happens because he wants to meet 250k weekly and prove you and Obedi right.

We’ve gone back and forth on this for too long and it seems we still don’t fully understand each other. At this point, let everyone do what works for them and live their life as they choose.

what's the actual context of the argument?

make everyone just do whatever that rocks their boat, there's a yoruba adage that says in English, you can force a horse to the stream but you can't force it to drink water..

if anyone comes here to bouth the hustle to discourage newbie, that's his cup of tea, my own is, whoever wants to start the work shouldn't be pressured by what he/she sees here, such thing can make 1 start to question himself, the hustle is an open market, you enter, study it and if you're convenient with it, you go on and if you find it too challenging to the point it's affecting your mental health, pls leave it and look for something else.

no be everyone must make money from the work and the ones that aren't making money doesn't mean they are lazy, it might not just be their way or what they have ion for...

But u don't want to accept the flaw in ur original post.

I shouldn't tell you a reality that happened?

Ok no problem.

I know u will say it's a reality, what happened is not because of his hardwork.

Ok if you say so

Working morning till late at night without rest is your definition of hardwork? Driving till 1am to meet "target" is your own definition of hardwork?.

Brother do whatever suits you.

If any driver tells me he works at night, it's a big red flag for me.

I resumed working from Tuesday to Sunday cos my lil bro is doing wedding soon and I gotta am without touching my savings.
This week, I'm targeting same gross and the good thing is that I'm having a bonus that will cover the whole of the week for me.
What else can a driver ask for?
Indrive is doing well for me.

Much respect, bosses. cool
