A Nigerian man couldn’t hide his emotions as he filmed the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos. Upon witnessing its dilapidated condition, he cried out:
“Ah, ah, ah! This is almost unbelievable! This is the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos—now in a state of abandonment and gradually rotting away.”

He lamented the decline of a once-glorious venue that had produced great athletes and hosted both international and local sporting events.
“Totally abandoned,” he continued. “Gradually, and gradually, it’s fading into history.”

In frustration, he asked:
“Ah! Who has done this to us in this country? What is happening? Why? This is unbelievable! Ah!”

The video has since gone viral, sparking a wave of reactions across social media platforms.

What a country ? Even Abuja stadium is not in I good use. Akpabios nest of champions in Uyo is the national stadium. Instead of putting the stadiums to use with regular sporting activities, they were busy renting it out for religious activities. Now, renovation and face lift will gulp billions of naira. Just so unfortunate that our leaders lack foresight of doing the needful to avoid waste.

...when Nigeria is about to play an international game, that's when the
government is going to notice it and repaint with low quality paint. It looks like a perfect place for a dystopian movie. Well Nigeria is almost a dystopia state.

We just lack maintenance culture in this country.
On the flip side, don't be surprised that if the stadium is eventually renovated, this same man will complain and ask how stadium renovation will put food on the table of the common man
Nigerians are bipolar, just take the opinions of Nigerians on subsidy before and after its removal to know how inconsistent they are grin

The only reason for the same man to ask such questions is because renovating a stadium shouldn't be counted as an achievement for a serious government cool

Sporting activities are at its lowest ebb for some years now and without sporting activities especially international, structure like this is bound to suffer and worst part of it the authority is not ready to rent it out for other activities like religion gathering.

But why is he lamenting over it then. If this stadium is renovated and beautify won't it attract foreigner and sport activities even international events, thereby bring in much needed fund into government purse. Our youths that now bury their hearts in social media and which is affecting them negatively will be attracted to going there to watch sport events. What of the contractors, engineers, workers and laborers that will benefits from the renovation. Therefore it is a big achievement for the government.

That stadium was exactly behind my backyard then. I grew up seeing that monument. I still vividly it's glorious days when it's lights usually illuminated the surrounding environment during sporting events. I still Nigeria 2000 African cup of nations. A pity that just like every aspect of the country it has been allowed to rot away.
26 yrs of uninterrupted democracy yet we have not been able to get our acts right in this country. We are still drifting aimlessly in the ocean of despair.
The civilians that fought the military came in and became worse than those they replaced. Everything about the country is rotting away. The Stadiums, Nigerian Railway corporation, Nigerian police force, and even the army that has failed to fight insurgency for close to 15yrs now.
Every aspect of the nation is a complete mess. It seems even God has abandoned the country.
Only the criminal politicians and their asslickers are having a field day in the country at the moment.
