The Enugu Air, CNG Mass Transit Programme, and the ultramodern transport terminals all built from scratch by the Governor Peter istration are to be launched for operation before the second anniversary of the government.

The government has also approved the development of the state’s tourism industry, while total transformation of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium and Awgu Games Village will start in June to get them ready for the National Sports Festival to be hosted by the state in 2026.

These were made known by the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Obi Ozor; Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dame Ugochi Madueke; Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Gerald Otiji; and Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Barr. Lloyd Ekweremadu after the State Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Enugu, at the weekend.

Briefing Government House Correspondents, Ozor said, “We are starting off with the initial three aircraft and two of the aircraft are already on ground. The third one will be on ground by the end of this month. We are hoping to start the commercial operations before the second year anniversary of this istration.

“You have also seen buses for the mass transit programme across the state. 50 of them are already parked at Okpara Square, and an additional 50 will be ing that fleet in the next few weeks. The 100 of them will be going into commercial operations before the end of this month, which is the second year anniversary.

Also, the bus terminals, two at Holy Ghost, one each at Gariki, Abakpa and Nsukka, will also be commissioned and go into commercial operations before the 29th of May, this year.”

He added that the government planned to bring in the electric and CNG automotive manufacturing plant into Enugu as well as launch in the next 150 days the Enugu Smart Transport Programme, which would see to the injection of over 2,000 electric vehicles.

Also briefing newsmen, Dame Madueke said funds would be invested in the tourism industry in phases.

“We are going to have it in phases. For the first phase, we are having Awhum Waterfall, Nsude Pyramid where we are going to have the first canopy walkway in the South East. It measures about 600 metres, which will actually be the longest in Nigeria.

“We also have Ngwo Pine Forest where we are having the first zipline in Nigeria. The zipline will measure about 300 metres. In the same Ngwo, we will have a big rotunda and a smaller rotunda. We have the Cross of Hope to be located at Okpatu. The Cross of Hope will be sitting 580 metres above sea level and the cross itself will measure about 50 metres, making it a total of about 630 metres above sea level. The cross will have about 15 floors with a lift.

“At Awhum Waterfalls, we are going to have another canopy walkway and a boardwalk to preserve the ecosystem.

“We equally have the Akwuke/Atakkwu Waterpark and Ovu Lake Golf and Resort at Akpawfu,” she stated.

She explained that all the tourist sites would have experience centres, food courts and renewable energy, adding that tour buses would soon arrive to ensure ease of movement of tourists.

Ahead of the 23rd edition of the National Sports Festival, Enugu 2026, Barr. Ekweremadu said the State Executive Council had equally directed the commencement of work both at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium and Awgu Games Village not later than June.

“We also briefed the council on the progress made in establishing a Lab for Animation for young people in Enugu State, which His Excellency will be commissioning soon. The lab is ready.

“We are similarly working towards empowering over 2,100 young people across the state, who were trained around December last year. This empowerment will be coming up on the 12th of August, being the International Youth Day’” Ekweremadu concluded.

The first job of any governor is security.

Till he deals with the marauding Fulani herdsmen in the villages across Enugu. No one should take him serious.

The idea of EnuguAir was really unnecessary. He should've used that money to start off plantations, bring in tractors, employ people and grow several crops that do well in Enugu (like cashew) and export it. Foodstuff business has huge untapped potential

There is security enough in the state. We should be afraid the way you sound, people like you call in herdsmen to carry out some crimes so you can use it to blackmail a governor. But God you.

Enugu Air will be a money making machine but the cng buses will have to find a mid point between being affordable and breaking even considering the high cost of buses. Perhaps the buses will do interstate. This is a good idea.

I thank the governor of Enugu State for the good works he is doing in Enugu State, may God bless him in Jesus name Amen. Please I want to use this opportunity to urge him to tackle the problem of the insecurity in the state with seriousness because it is the most important thing in the state. Without security all the achievements will be in vain.

Having a different approach to governance is different from having bad belle and lying on social media to paint someone black.

The difference is clear.

Which state in Nigeria is more secure than Enugu?

Let me tell you one thing you all seems to be forgetting, security is in the exclusive list of the country's constitution, not something a governor can handle alone. That's why the commissioner of police and the GOC reports to Abuja, not to the governor.

You should call the FG to secure the country, not the governors whose work in security is very limited as they can only cry to the federal to solve each security problems.

Why are you all over the place like a barking and attacking everyone that has a contrary opinion?

The Smartpolician guy there has a very very valid point.

Our state governments need to pay attention to ventures that would generate more revenue to augment the monthly allocation from the FG.

Rail transport (I know this is a more capital-intensive project) would have even made more sense than this airline and CNG bus initiative.

These buses project might not survive 2 years, this is after the government might have incurred huge losses.

The CROSS OF HOPE will become an iconic landmark immediately identifiable and linked to Enugu state, similar to Christ The Redeemer statue standing atop a hill in Rio, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Angel Of The North in the UK, and the Statue Of Liberty in New York that for over a century has welcomed travellers to the city!

They should find a good spot for it….ideally on top of a hill and out in the countryside close to Enugu city! Air travellers should be able to see it lit up as they arrive the Enugu airport!

Good but the governor should provide security to those in villages/farm settlement. Fulani terrorists are killing people everyday in those areas in Enugu.

Ain’t it funny how chronic bigoted Igbo-haters and impostors are all over this thread complaining and wailing about positive developments in Enugu state governance!? Only those new to nairaland will fall for their fake displays of ‘love and concern’ for Enugu and its people. Where were these emergency lovers of Enugu throughout the wasted Ugwuanyi 8 years?

Besides what’s reported on the OP, the state gov’t is also intervening in agriculture, education, health and security! But these trolls either are ignorant of this, or know but pretend not to because they have a hatchet job to do on this forum!

The people of the state are in of the governor and what's he's investing in. If you're not happy, pick a gubernatorial form and contest, let's see your manifesto. Stop being an enemy of progress and a devil's agent to terminate the happiness of millions of people.

If they locate it in the outskirt of enugu town then it will require a security post against vandals.
