Because their level of achievement or where they want to be does not match their age.

An older woman dont like that question because she instinctively knows that you are calculating her age against her situation, even if you are not doing that.

For men, if they are broke at a certain age, they do not like that question.

The simple answer is usually shame or fear of rejection; these are some of the mental conditions that people refuse to approach honestly.

For me I did it to secure job I cut 9yrs comot sharp, sharp but inside me I still maintain my real age.

Majorly due to job and school requirements.

That's because of the discriminatory menace called "Ageism".

It's largely limited to Africa, especially Nigeria, where undue and needless pressure is placed on people to achieve certain milestones before specific ages... These milestones include:

Marriage
Childbirth
Employment
Wealth
Academic excellence
Etc.

Another aspect is the penchant of the average African Negro to be dishonest about almost everything especially with regards to getting into age-restricted slots.

Typical instances include your footballers and sportspeople, as well as your career Politicians.

Even your President lied blatantly about his age.


I met a lot of foreigners in my travels abroad, and they were never ashamed or bothered about their ages or aging.

Men at 40 to 50 have no qualms about flaunting their ages, whether or not they are high achievers... Matter of fact, it's mostly Nigerians that attach age to achievements and everything else in life.


We are always competing needlessly and seem to enjoy mocking people for even the slightest reasons.


Abroad people don't call low achievers "fools at 40" or ridicule middle aged people who choose to be single or live simple lives.

Nobody abroad gives a shit about a lot of the mundane and silly things we stigmatize people about in Nigeria.

That's because you shouldn't be asking people about their age in the first place.

For guys: In order to fit into the system. And apply for jobs that are way their age. There are also those into sports who reduce their ages as well so they can have a longer career.

For girls: To give the impression to prospective toasters that they're forever young as most guys would naturally prefer to go after younger girls than older ones.

Why are you asking of ones age? Age is just a number, it is even kid play to let age determine your relationship with another person.

Relate well, date people irregardless of their age, authenticity, Kindness and love matter most not age

It's very prevelant among civil servants in Nigeria although a lot of people who don't work for the government are also guilty of it

To an extent you can't blame, of you went to school in Nigeria but due to frequent strikes you spent 2 or 3 extra years in the university it then means you will probably never be eligible for any job interviews because the age limit is usually between 24 and 25 years.

As a result of this some people adjust their age downwards
