And so I decided to travel to Igbanke along with my colleague in Edo state. I never knew there's a tribe in Edo state that speaks Igbo even though I have been hearing it for ages. My first experience on getting to Igbanke, Olomua precisely, was getting bush meat at a local bar and I ate to my satisfaction, after which i proceeded with my journey. I noticed at first their king previously answers "Enogie" to his name, the king of Olomua is HRH Edobor. I was told he has changed it to an Igbo title "Eze or obi" (I couldn't this) Before we got to Olomua, we ed another village of which I cannot the name. I decided to interact with the people and I was shocked to discover that they do not only speak Igbo but also bear Igbo names. A man I interacted with introduced himself as "Ijeoma" . He spoke Igbo perfectly well and kept asking me if I understood what he was saying. I became curious and asked him how did the Igbanke people found themselves in Edo state because the Bini, Esans, Auchi, Igarra's language and customs are completely different from the Igbankes. The man said that the Igbankes' are originally from IKA (in Delta) that they were divided during the slave trade and particularly the civil war Saga made them fled and also state creation during IBB massively separated them from their ancestry roots. It also worthy to note that the IKA people too are all Igbo people who migrated from either Anambra or igbo neighbouring states. Igbanke is a small community comprising of 5 villages that came together to established their settlement. It'll interest you to know that Samuel Ogbemudia is from Igbanke 1 Like |

Igbanke just like Abudu has both Benin and Igbo-speaking sides. Igbanke is historically owned by the Benin Kingdom 1 Like 1 Share |

If the so called Igbanke people answer bini names, so you guess where their roots are from. Also , the last governorship election, the LP candidate bear both Yoruba & Bini names together. Have you ever wonder that Edo & Delta State was formed from the default Mid west state, it shows that there are other dialect spoken in Edo, they trace their origin to the Bini's |
