FashoFashola to Nigerians: 'If You Want to Have Stable Electricity Supply, Vote PDP Out in 2015'

Jul 11, 2014.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, while marking his 2,600 days in office at an elaborate ceremony held at the Blue Roof of the Lagos Television premises, has said voting out the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from power in next year’s general election is the only way the country can have stable electricity.

According to The Nation, Fashola said electricity crisis in the country is caused by lack of ideas and insincerity of purpose on the part of Federal Government.

"Yes I agree with you that it is possible to generate electricity and to make sure that everybody in this country has electricity, we have to do the right thing. But you know what, the only way that you and I will have electricity in this country will be to vote out the PDP.

It is a shame for a country since independence and no constant electricity

They're already complaining after just three days. This is something BEDC routinely dishes out every other day. BEDC will give you power for two hours at midnight when you are sleeping and call it a day.

Because since independence, Nigerians have believed in the myth that electricity must be cheap, and government has catered to that myth for decades

Oh.. please, put the blame where it should be. The military govt if the past had no blueprint to develop the power sector. Why blame the citizens for that.

They did, and I still stand by what I said.

I am not blaming the citizens. Power supply costs a lot in maintenance and expansion. It can't be paid for until the government allows the sector set it's price and sell at that price.

Any proof of the blueprint for the power sector during the military era?
Modified: hope you are witnessing the power supply to some band A district despite the raise in their tariff?

When everyone pays market price for power, we will soon have 24 hour a day power every day.

To understand why read this : Solving the liqudity crunch in the power sector.

Calling me government er does not change the fact that if everyone pays N250 or more for power, everyone gets metered, and no one byes their meter.....would attract more investment, and maybe the money needed to improve to 88000 mw
How much do you think people on band A pay per Kw? Do you think it's right for customers to bear the responsibilities of electrifying their community? Since you're now the spokesman of the Discos and compare them to internet service providers. Oga, we buy our transformers and maintain them. I don't think you know the cost of the MTN service station that's serving you neighborhood.

Bad

But get 7 to 8 hours of banditry

Good analysis, bro; I believe the government is clueless. Inept is the word.

Funny government!

Even the so called "Presidency" cannot afford the electricity tariffs it has foisted on its people.

How smart!

It is true, boss. It's usually by this time of the night they bring light in Kano since Ramadan. Then they'll leave it to 1am to 2am. Sometimes they we don't even get to see it throughout a 24hr period. Probably that's what will happen tonight, since I'm still waiting for them but no show yet.

Actually Sir, according to the article, the authorities mentioned that the situation is not normal, which is indeed the case. We hope the issue whatever it is, is resolved soon.

Depending on the scale of the agri-industry. As you already know, some businesses don't entire depend on government light as they produce thier own electricity through solar and generators.

Some even have special deals with KEDCO, like the iceblock guys who allegedly bribe officials
during Ramadan to limit general power supply and prioritise thier own operations since Ramadan often falls in the heat season and people crave cold drinks in the evenings while breaking fast, hence boosting iceblock sales.
