Kanu would have been perfect for today's modern game. He is what I categorize the deep lying striker. I always wondered what happened that Nigeria produced so many bright tactical players like Siasia, Oliseh, Kanu, Celestine Babayaro, Finidi George.

I reading that Segun Odegbami used Oliseh's highlight clip on his Super Eagles debut for years to carry out tactical training for players.

I wonder why it all disappeared.
And this players had their formative years playing on the streets. Oliseh was too good.

If there is any match of Nigeria I want to watch again, it is Nigeria vs Ireland in Nigeria 99. That was my best display of Pius Ikedia.
I this match. We won by 1-0 abi?

We can't achieve much success if the whole unit isn't developing. Sports is all round, medical, structure, branding etc and most importantly psychological.

It has been obvious this key aspect of sports has been left out of our current national teams set up.

The current generation of National teams don't understand and believe what it takes to wear any national team shirt. They don't, it's starts from the first day you get an invitation.

I during my NDA days in Mogadishu battalion, Moga as they call us then never loose, we train twice as others and it is drummed into your body, mind and soul from day one when you get into the academy talk more about seeing your posting to Mogadishu battalion.

This was all we needed to fuel our body and determination and I doubt current national teams are structured this way.
Black man lacks the ability for long term planning. Chop chop, that's what he's good at.

98 was total mismanagement and atrocious preparation. It is still what we suffer today. Little to no competition to the regular first team players. Also lack of patience in team building.
98 team had very good friendlies but failure to participate in Afcon 96&98 affected the team.I the 23 man list to Afcon 96 was a mixed of 94 oldies and Atlanta 96 team, solid selection.

Even more impressive when you consider he didn't start the job from scratch but was brought in after their coach resigned. They were bottom of the league and now CAF continental tournament contenders.

I'm overall very impressed with the entire Ikorodu project, cause they've given as it were a more sustainable pattern for private interests on how to run a private club in the NWFL. They didn't go on a Spending spree like Sporting Lagos cause they obviously didn't have deep pockets, but scouted for talents at the grassroot and from the NNL and it's interesting to see what they have achieved with that.

My concern however is sustainability. They obviously don't pay these players enough to wade off rival or foreign interest. Pretty sure a large chunk of their roster will be poached by other NPFL teams and foreign interest at the end of the season. The task in front of them is to see how they can build a sustainable system that will work for them.
Thank you for this piece.I always seeing Heartland being praised here possibly cuz of Emma Amuneke but Ikorodu a league debutants giving us 6-0 win in NPFL match and last week again won 3-0 should be a team to talk about,as you said sustainability is just the issue.

Enyimba still only NPFL club with African club competition pedigree

I think Ikorodu fc are much younger and play good football than Heartland, also I will pick El Kanemi too as another promising team.....

To each team it's own. Just because Ikorodu City and El Kanemi are flying doesn't mean Heartland must be at that same pace. The factors are not the same so u can't expect the same results. Ikorodu and El Kanemi have been on the right path for at least a couple seasons now. On the other hand Emmanuel Amunike just ed Heartland this season. Then there is the fact that Heartland FC play in a farm. Them playing good football on that ground is the real testimony.

Looked so, but most of the players came from Westerhoff's grooming. That gap after he left and then Bonfere killed the competition. Even if we were not competiting in the AFCON tournaments, we should have played multiple friendlies in that gap to keep the team going and introducing new players to compete with the notable names. The friendlies were fire brigade approach before the tournament. A longer approach would have made us even more impactful.

Atlanta 96 was there to cover up for that Afcon 96 gap, we simply threw all lessons learnt from 94-96 away as there was no sense of purpose

My point there is this hype on Heartland fc here which I believed is cuz of Emma Amuneke which is a plus for the team.

Ikorodu caught my attention again after hammering Katsina United 6-0,reading what LOVEWINS said about Ikorodu fc the team need to be praised, came from NNL and started on a shaky note, their coach resigned and interim coach came in to salvage the situation, playing good football and now competing for CAF cup slot.

Yes Emma ed Heartland this season after the team got relegated, bought Beyond Limit place to remain in NPFL.Hope Emma remain with the team next season to see more of Heartland.

There is nothing stopping anyone from talking about coach Nurudeen Aweroro and the wonderful work he has done with Ikorodu. That doesn't take away from Amunike. U are picking between good and good so it makes no difference.

Let me tell you Koko, you are authority when it comes to NPFL, reason guys here tagging you to get informations.

We need wider coverage, like I was told Akwa utd Kennedy Boboye won coach of the month and a player from Akwa utd won player of the month, checking their last five matches the team that struggled from the beginning but picking up late.

Basco,is it true Lobi already relegated after spent 27 years in NPFL.

I respect your coverages and kudos but we want more from home.....Salute sir

🟒 Excl | Felix #Agu has a release clause in his contract. This clause is valid until the end of May this year. The fee: €8-10 million!

West Ham and Fulham are monitoring his situation. Teams from Italy are also interested.

Following his recent strong performances with Werder Bremen, the Nigerian FA would also like to call him up.

Contract until 2027.
