“I Don’t Rent My House To Igbos”. Osinbajo’s 1989 Experience (throwback ) (5213 Views)

Just so you all know that the bigotry and Igbo hate didn’t start today. It started since Awolowo planted it on the night of the inauguration of Western Regional Assembly when he convinced Yorubas that were elected on the platform of NCNC to defect to AG so that AG can become majority and he (Awolowo) and not Azikiwe, can become Premier of Western Region. Since then, that region has not recovered from Igbophobia and bigotry. With some exceptions of course. 20 Likes 3 Shares |

Exactly how it should be! I don't rent any of my properties to IGBOS as well. You can't determine who a property owner should let HIS PROPERTY to. You can go elsewhere; besides IT'S NOT A MUST TO LIVE IN LAGOS OR ANY PART OF THE SOUTH WEST. EOD! 30 Likes 7 Shares |

These people will pay first rent and won't pay again. They will even follow you to court, they have their kinsmen running legal services as regards tendency issue. Chosen kinds are more worse in this matter. They will try to kill you with devilish prayers on top your property

Igbos own 95% of houses in Lagos according to some empty chest beaters. So, why are they still crying that Yoruba landlords are not renting their properties to them? Why not go to your fellow Igbo landlord for house?

Penguin2:so bigotry only started When Awolowo reacted to an action. It didnt start when Azikiwe was boasting to his fellow ibos of an imminent takeover of the politics of Nigeria and phantom superiority of its race ? it did not start when he wanted to become a western region premier? You must have lied to yourself so much that you claim your eye cant see your nose. 20 Likes 2 Shares |

Penguin2:Stop committing crimes! When you paint the whole world with criminalities to the extent it was known to a tribe worldwide, it is terrible. It is not new to hear things like this based on bittered experience. I have seen Igbo woman who bitterly cursing igbos and call Igbo evils. I corrected her and tried to make her changed her mind, but when she recounted the evil her Igbo people doing, it was terrible really. She hated igbos more than other tribes will hate igbos. I have also seen Igbo landlords that decided not to rent their houses to delta people, they always pointed out that many of them they rented house to in the past were troublesome people. So, bitter experience can make people make such decision that is personal, it doesn't really means all igbos are hated 17 Likes |

Some are saying igbos don't pay.. be truthful for once na Igbo man dey mostly pay him rent without much hassle.. because them no get time for wahala plus most of them are well trained in christian and traditional values. Most places I've visited in Nigeria..indigenes prefer to rent their properties to Igbos, even more than their own ppl. I when I was working as a young sales rep in benin city,a popular Benin businesswoman (Madam Lagos..God rest her soul) was always saying she hardly rent her shops to anybody that's not Igbo... So if u not renting properties to Igbos,it's not because they won't pay...perhaps other parochial and archaic reasons 11 Likes 2 Shares |

And they are not stopping anytime soon. Now Civic Education textbooks by their kinsmen are spreading tales to school kids that Igbos invaded, kidnapped, and sold Yorubas into slavery prompting the intervention of Moremi of Ife. No historical records backs this proof; just tales from dark hearts. Igbo hate cannot be what will be used to advance Yoruba nation as a united front. Just like our hustle, this has now become our business. And we must speak against such lies whenever we see it. Look for other common goals to advance your unity. 10 Likes 1 Share |

Warrior99:my father has 11 houses n he told the agents loud n clear that there are 3 sets of people the agent should never give house to Igbo Police Lawyer An Igbo man will always give u problem, he will prefer to take u to court n delay payment than paying u your money. Imagine in 2010, cos of 120k house rent this Igbo guy took my father to court cos of broken kitchen pipe even when he was not around n they can't break his door to fix it. They don't like peace n they are proud, in tenants meeting they will always want their wish to stand even if it's against that of others n it's wrong. Police, him n his wife will always cause problem cos they know they can take u to station n frustrate u. Lawyer, he will always look for loopholes n lapses so he can take u to court n not pay rent 12 Likes 1 Share |

seanfer: The guy is just a fool, of all the stories he could use this Friday to attack Yoruba... it is this one which only shows again how accommodating we are. My grandmother (of blessed memory) could not speak English and was a typical core Yoruba landlord who always preferred to rent her flats to people she felt had good manners. She was from Ife, so she mostly preferred people from her place in particular. When I stayed with her for a while, I saw the easiest way to confuse her was to pretend to have manners, bring your personal problems to her to solve and so on. So many of her Yoruba tennants did this before still eventually falling out with her as she was a shrewd woman. One day she wanted to do a general renovation of her property ...all the tenants as usual started to bring in their contractors with silly quotes since they knew Mama cannot go to the market to anything. I was getting angry until she told me she already had a plan. She told me she would call one of the best tennants she ever had ( who happened to sell building materials) that would never cheat her. So one fateful day I came back from work, saw a strange car in front of the compound and I guessed she had a visitor. When I got to the parlour I saw her laughing with someone who was clearly struggling to speak Yoruba but understood what she was saying. In short, it was a typical Igbo businessman who in a million years I would have never expected to be the tennant she had praised so much as being honest and industrious. He was clearly a big man and one could see this job was too small for a big man like him to come all the way down. The quote he gave was almost half what the others had proposed and far more extensive than all I had seen. My grandmother did not even look at it....it was like her main aim of calling him over was to gist and reminisce. His boys started the work the next day and this was one of the few times my grandmother did not have any complaint or anxiety. The renovation stands till today. Everyone has biases and prejudices, but in my experience most Yorubas don't allow that to stop them from knowing people should be ultimately judged individually for their unique personalities. Which is still what Osibanjo and his landlord actually did. I stay in Surulere now and I can tell you that a lot of Surulere landlords that happen to be Igbo still prefer not to rent their flats to fellow Igbos. Prejudice is part of life, its if you allow them to rule and control your life, that's what ultimately matters. 11 Likes 1 Share |

Nomercie:Igbos are naturally greedy, it just took long for yorubas to know The northerners know that since n they have learnt to deal with them An Igbo man is not satisfied until he takes what belongs to others. Imagine there are 3 things n 3 people n an igbo wants to take 2 out of 3, he doesn't care if the last person doesn't have any. The same Igbos who will never allow an imo man become anything in anambara let alone a stranger is celebrating that an Igbo man is made king in Bauchi That's d life of an Igbo, your own is our own but my own is my own. 10 Likes 1 Share |
