I bought a toyota camry 2011 model in September 2024. I Serviced the engine after purchase with mobil oil in December because rarely drive it. Few days after service, I travelled with it to Iseyin from Lagos, on my way back to Lagos on the third day, I got to 7up around Alausa, the car just stopped. I checked I couldn't find any fault, I thought it is a electrical , after a while I tried restart it and it actually start and I drove to Ikeja and it stopped again. I therefore looked for an electrical technician who helped check, on a second thought, I decided to check the engine oil and to my surprise, the oil had dried, then I allowed the engine to cool before refill with a new engine oil. thereafter the engine started making loud noise anytime I tried to put on ignition.
My mechanic explained that some parts in the engine has been affected and I've to replaced it, which I did though by another mechanic.
But since then I've been having one issues or the other. The AC is no longer cooling until you accelerate, some parts in the alternator was burnt. And, besides the noise has not stopped.
Kindly assist.

For engine oil na 5w20.... Use wetin the previous owner has been using. To go back to factory setting is like medicine after death

Baba na to get tokunbo engine be dat. It go cost you at least 1m for grade A engine. Hopefully those ladipo boys no go package grade C naija used engine as grade A engine give you. Those boys no get conscious at all they fit sell their mama....

And ignore any mechanic that will tell you dey fit rebuilt the damage pieces . Those ones too no get conscious at all ....


Ladipo parts seller go do their own, mechanic too go do their own , we advice car owners buy original oil etc take care of your motor them too go ignore advice...
Everybody just dey jam each other with their own craze with confusion.... Last last na car owner go chop breakfast.. expensive one too

The amount of liters will depend. If you are getting a replacement transmission, to be on the safe side you will need 8 liters .... And if you have any left overs you can always sell it . But to be safe 8 liters...

thanks bro, nothing have spoiled it just overheats after driving for a while. I noticed it also boils up the water usimg up the on in the reserve. im thinking it might be the thermostat unfortunately i havent seen one to buy so far. want to replace it then use coolant too. thanks for ue input i greatly appreciate it.

There are many reasons why your car is overheating. I will stick to the most common reason particularly for naija car owners ......


Coolant. I can be bet 100k that you are using water instead of coolant in radiator. The purpose of coolant is to keep the engine cool at a running temperature to prevent overheating. When using water it boils and can't cool the engine down properly.

Using water instead of coolant,might not cause damage right away, but as time goes on the damage will show it's ugly face. This damage will affect the radiator, water pump and most importantly the engine. It will can damage your gasket easily....

The simple solution here is to use original coolant that is compatible for your car. At this rate it is too late to use coolant. You will need to replace whatever is damaged and replace them. Hopefully your gasket is still in good shape.

This to avoid.... Please ignore removing the thermostat. It is there for a reason. Anyone removing thermostat of car needs to be shot and ban from operating or fixing a car.....

Please avoid anyone telling you to buy double cell radiator. Using original coolant that cost around 35k would have saved you time and money. Now you have to spend at least 60k or more to fix the problem.

For your coolant we are your service. This will only be useful once you have done the needful by fixing the car ...

2011 camry omo possibly 2ar Engine 1m plus be that ohhh. Get a good technician to help you check and plan to replace the engine to have peace of mind.
Ac not cooling until you accelerate might be compressor issue but ones you solve the engine issue you can know what wrong with d ac.

Welcome to the club. I made this mistake 3 years ago on my third car,i had not driven in al ost a year plus b4 my client paid and i got qn acura tsx. I swear down,i was firong the car up and down.infact i had no problems with spark plugs,ac,my engine started smoking lightly at traffic till one nite qhen i got high and was revving the engine in traffic to 4500rpm. It later knocked after 10mins,i drove it home like that,infact i drove the acura 4plugs engine without oil for almost 50mins to mechanic,as usual he chop me 100k,since then the acura became a junk,went fro
electrical problems to AC,overheating. I sold the engine for 50k and bought toks for 250k.i drove it for another 2mo ths b4 I sold it. Alaye just sell it and buy another engine.u wasted money. Koda,even if they do t open the engine down part thay has the piston rings and all,if they only want to change gasket. The engine will never remain the same. How wish u had known,u for tow am go house.buy toks engine.for now.park the car st home and be looking at six months time to get a replacement engine.fo not repair again.the engine has been kazeemed.
In your next engine.always check the oil guage,check the plugs if they are all black and carbon filled and of cos check the xhaust for smoke and powdered black carbon. Do not repair.buy toks.even toks sef na luck

Dont waste money on any useless gear fake oil sold by him.buy oando dextron 3 or 4,my uncle uses it in his lexus rx330 04 model and no issue. Buy at least 6 litres. 8 litres is too much,is your car a lorry.converter will take another 3 to 4 litres,surface another 1 to 2 litres before it will circulate and guage at dip stick. Having coolant or not wouldn't do anything If your cooling system has been compromised,
You should check if your head gasket is fine, if your radiator cells, coolant hoses, water pump radiator cap and thermostat are in good condition first before investing money in any coolant.

good day guys, my lexus es330 is overheating. the mechanic suggested that the thermostat has issues that i should remove it but i don't want to remiove it even though he told me that's how he fixed his 2.4 camry when it was overheating that it might also be a water pump issue. have anyone here experienced this and how did you fix it?

If your lexus is overheating, check,

1. Radiator,
2. Thermostat,
3. Radiator cap,
4. Coolant hoses,
5. Heater core under the dash for liquid stains or wetness,
6. Water pump,
7. Head gasket.

If any of these are defective, pls replace them with a good unit, bbefore trying out coolant.

Also 2008 Lexus Rx350- P0340 and C1201 (Abs)
The major issue here is hard starting. The cam position sensors and their line have been examined and confirmed ok.

Ever since Mobil went out of reach, I embraced hardex SAE 5W- 30. Just change oil as and when due. Shikena

For the Highlander:

Air filter and MAF sensor were cleaned. Turned on the ignition for a rescan and the codes were gone. However, I need to replace the seal on the top of bank 2 as there are visible signs of oil leaks. Will rescan when the job is done.

Nothing good like toks engine it will give you rest of mind at least sha.
If you have a good technician it can be fixed back to normal till when you will be able to replace the engine
