PANDEF chair: Patience Jonathan rolled on the floor begging her husband to make Wike governor

Godknows Igali, chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), says Patience Jonathan, the former first lady, pleaded for Nyesom Wike to become governor of Rivers state.

Speaking on Focus Nigeria, a political programme on AIT, Igali claimed the former first lady went as far as rolling on the floor to persuade her husband, former President Goodluck Jonathan, and Edwin Clark, an influential south-south leader who died on February 17.

Wike, now the minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), served as Rivers state governor between 2015 and 2023.

His recent comments have put him at odds with PANDEF. On March 12, during a media chat, the minister accused the group of seeking favours from President Bola Tinubu during a visit to the presidential villa.

In response, Igali, a former permanent secretary at the federal ministry of water resources, defended PANDEF, saying the delegation included senior traditional rulers, former governors, senators, and ministers.

He said it was “highly regrettable and totally unacceptable” that Wike would “exhibit such brazen disrespect towards individuals of this standing”.

“We used to organize retreats for new ministers, and one of the things we taught them was the code of ethics — to be ethical, to be decent. Not to behave, dance around, shout at people, and use the wrong words on elders. We are still Africans, for goodness’ sake,” Igali said.

“The minister should be called to order. You see, this has many implications because, first, it sends the wrong message.

“And the people of the Niger Delta — some of the traditional rulers — call me and said, ‘Ambassador Igali, did you take us to the villa to be insulted this way? Do you know that I retired from the army in 1975? Where was that minister?’ I said, ‘Sorry, sir, that was not my intention’.

“So, let us keep talking. Come, let us talk. You are my brother, you are part of PANDEF. You came there to meet PANDEF when you wanted to be governor. You knelt before Chief Edwin Clark. I was in the other room in the house.

“Patience Jonathan rolled on the floor to beg President Jonathan to make you governor. Some of the people — Chief A.K. Horsfall, Alabo Graham-Douglas, who is now late, and the traditional ruler of Etche — were not on board.

“They said, ‘Look, Rivers State has a precarious political situation. We balance politics — riverine, Delta, the Ogonis. We have to go down like that.’ They said no.

“Patience Jonathan said, ‘We want Wike to be governor at all costs.’ But it was the turn of someone from the riverine side. She begged. And she is alive. She rolled on the ground to beg Chief Clark and others on your behalf.”

During his media chat, Wike claimed that an Ijaw candidate could not have won the Rivers governorship election without his backing, as the group is the “minority of minorities”.

Igali refuted the statement, recalling that when the military moved against Wike in Okrika, “it was Ijaw women who defended him”.

Normally, everybody must surely become a somebody in life through somebody.

But then again, I've never really been concerned about this Rivers state saga but the truth remains the fact that it's only Wike and Fubara that knows the kind of agreement both of them did.....

And agreement they say should always be honoured....

Wike and the evil party call APC are our major problems at the moment.

It's now clear that people are "made" governors! We are practicing some form of monarchy.

Wike is a man of honor and integrity.

He will never bow to the whims of the mediocre.

At some point in life, we all need people who can recommend us in order to get to the peak of our careers. Even in order to win big in our endeavors respectively.

In all, don’t ever try to outshine your Master or to bite the helping fingers. It’s not weakling, it’s golden principle.

Not necessarily mean you will always agree on issues but you have to have the moral of the whole and manner of the dancing Master.

Wike thinks his followers are fools, he has shown his real color.

We don't like Godfatherism, this is the only reason Rivers people ed him against Amechi, now he thinks he's a warrior.

Wike is too selfish.

A Waste of rolling on the floor

Hmmm… this thing happened years back in Anambra, godfatherism and taking oaths to serve a godfather and his interest once he makes you governor… until Governor Chris Ngige stopped it which led to his kidnap, and he (Governor Chris Ngige) was kept hostage for 3 days

You can imagine a whole state governor loss for 3days, no one knew where he was not even his wife, the rest was story.

Chris Ngige and Peter Obi are the only people that laid the foundation why Anambra state always have good governance compared to other South East states till date

As a result of those political turmoil in Anambra State then, 5 people became governors in Anambra in 5 years… those were the trying times of Anambra state.

For this impunity currently going on in Rivers State to stop, a top politician in the state must pay with his career to end godfatherism in the state

If there is something that is consistent about him, you need to understudy the worm. It enters the host begging for food and when it gets into it, it starts eating from the source until it kills it or the host kills it to survive. Read between the lines.

I still vividly how Wike used to much violence during the 2015 election just to make sure that jona win River by unimaginable margin.
Heads were chopped off during day light. Rivers came in with like 1.5 Million votes that everyone knew was fake figures.
All the loud mouth mumus abusing Wike now, were praising him back then with so many people killed just for Jonathan votes.

And Wike paid them back. While Goatluck Jonathan was shivering with fear, Wike the wicked one fought Tinubu, Atiku, Buhari, nPDP consisting of Saraki, Rotimi Amaechi and others, and on election day, Wike wrote 1.4 million votes for Goatluck Jonathan in Rivers alone. Even if all the dead people in Rivers from the time of our forefathers rise up to vote in Rivers for Goatluck alone, they will never add up to 1.4 million.
