I recently relocated to Calgary and am searching for a good school for my children. Based on , I’ve heard that public schools may not be the best fit for my family, so I decided to explore Catholic schools instead.

I applied through the Calgary Catholic School Board and selected a school within my district. However, I received a call from the principal informing me that my son would not be accepted because we are not Catholic. This was quite disappointing, especially since private school tuition is quite expensive.

It seems that Catholic schools require a baptism certificate for either my children or myself. Has anyone navigated a similar situation? What options are available for non-Catholic families seeking ission?

I currently attend a Pentecostal church but am considering ing the Catholic Church, though I understand the process takes time. I also learned that for a child’s baptism, the parents must have godparents and be baptized in the Catholic faith.

I’d appreciate any advice from those familiar with the system. Thank you!

If you're worried only about quality of education and not so much the religious side of things...maybe re-consider the CBE schools (Calgary Board of Education) i.e. public schools.

The Fraser Institute does a ranking every year for schools in 4 provinces including Alberta. See if you live near any of the top rated ones in Calgary or are willing to change community to be within the school zone of one of the top 20 for example.

Another option is not to worry so much about elematary and focus on getting into a neighborhood with an excellent mid and high school.

The CBE find a school site allows you to see the attendance zone for each school (works only on PCs not phones). CBE also have TLC Traditional Learning Centres - kids wear uniform and get home work...some like the structure....but these are usually oversubscribed. Look through the CBE page for more details.

There are also charter schools which have a designated focus e.g. gifted, science, art, classics etc.

CBE also has French Immersion Schools ...early immersion for kids from kindergarten and grade 1 with zero French or late immersion for grade 7 entry.

Just Google the options above and talk to people in each to get their .

Hehe. I a leader of one of the nations in the anglosphere (Australia I think) stating how they can't let house prices fall because alot of people's retirement depends on it. People keep asking for cheaper houses but I can assure you that any PM that lets house prices fall by say 20% in a widespread fashion will see an end to their reign due to wider reverberations. When you're a landlord, a bank, grocery outlet, have a land bank e.t.c. more people is good news to your ear. Especially if gdp per capita i.e average wealth per head rises or remains stable (which so far it has done).
Canada gives out circa 400k PR invites per year. Add dependents and growth from other sources, thats well over 1% growth in population per year- majority of which are working age adults. Imagine the consumption and wealth created yearly. Financial independence could be finding where that wealth is generated and get plugged. Not only that, many of those people come with money from their host nations. I know a few who moved to Can in the last year and subsequently sold their houses in the UK - taking the money with them to invest in Canada
Reason why I don't get it when migrants are denigrated. They are seeking the best for themselves. It's those who let them in or drive policy that should be questioned

All said, the hustle continues- If Canada no work well or other places work better, people will activate japa 2.0. Also, going back home to retire can be a good thing. At a point in life, we begin to ask ourselves what the essence of life is. 150yrs from now, we'd all be gone and forgotten. We should cherish the moment and live life to it's fullest. True- fact is he who has is more likely to have more. Daddy and mummy made their wealth from property/stocks/business decades back. They have 2 kids who are well educated. They'd gift them thousands to get on the housing ladder in the 20's. Pikin wey get sense would build from there. Ultimately, parents would on and leave another chunk.

Many migrants on the other hand, come in and start paying rent. Hehe. We can only work hard+smart and push for the society to remain meritorious (and affirm certain adversities) while at it plus effective taxation to help redistribute wealth. Also, not to shy away from wealth generating opportunities which manytimes could be in business, property or both.

I don't want his Nigerian port to carry the current name he has on his Canadian port and I don't want to go through the stress of changing his name on NIN, Nigerian port etc in Ottawa when we finally go back.

Will I have issues traveling back with him to Canada, considering he has overstayed his visa?

i know three ladies that got married while on study/ post graduate to 9ja men who are PR or Citizens. Was it for love abi for security or na collabo. I cannot ask them sha 😂.
I don’t blame some ladies with PR for being too careful its hard to recover from being used .

The believe is that only the US has the kind of military machine that can deter russia from further attacking, so he needs their commitment for a security arrangement but is unlikely to get it from trump.

Please experienced senior here....Which city/province would you advice newcomers/immigrants with children that are not bound by provincial rules to start off from.Which province/city can make settling into a new country easier. Thank you

Anybody can use anybody anywhere What about the lady who brought a man from Nigeria, only for him to stay in Canada for a year and realize his life was better in Nigeria with less stress He returned home, leaving her alone in Brampton with a baby .People need to stop idolizing PR as a condition for love.
